If you put the right amount of water in there you will never run dry lol, its crucial you put enough water when running your PC for 3 hours but this is proper sterilization time for oats :)
@ I always add 5-6 quarts of water, but my canner is old and allows more steam to escape than it should. And it’s much worse now that it’s a little warped! 🤪 Perhaps better canners can go this long, but I will never go that long again with a Presto. I’ve been PCing my groats for 90 minutes, and that has been successful for me! I think having them properly hydrated beforehand is the key to ensuring proper sterilization, but to truly sterilize them, you need an autoclave.
Three hours in a pressure canner is a good way to run dry and warp your canner. Ask me how I know! 😅
