- Customer brought me a Cascadia to look at after he purchased it. Lucky for him he has w0 days to look at it and hopefully get it fixed by the dealership it was purchased from.
I performed a compression test which show cylinder 6 failed with 78%
NOx efficiency started strong at 92% then dropped as low as 68%. This could be a bad NOx sensor, failed DPF , failed One Box. Don’t be afraid of turning on the AC to help strain the engine.
This is why a pre purchase inspection to catch as many issues as possible.

Regarding my 2012 Volvo my mechanic is charging me 47 hours of labor = $4,700 to replace cylinder head not including cost of cylinder head just labor?
With today’s labor that sounds a little high but you need to ask yourself.
What is the warranty he is giving?
I know it’s labor, but is there a warranty on the work?
You can always find someone less expensive but how good is the work? Do they stand behind it.

Truck purchase is a big investment. It must bring a professional with DDDL to check the compression, SCR etc. CARB strictly law enforcement, SCR efficiency decide the used truck value.
Remember the sales force is going to tell you what you want to hear. Every dollar they have to spend in the shop prior to sale comes out of their bottom end. So essentially if they're angry for you getting a second opinion, it may not be the power for you.
Friend of mine bought Freightliner cascadia '16 in October last year. Check light came on for 1569/31. Company replace doser value n cleaned DPF filt. Unit has 350k. Not what's going on, but like keeps coming on.

It would be fantastic if someone came up with an inexpensive regen reporting tool that could get this efficiency rating and spit it out in a short format type so that a prospective new owner could go in informed. We don't need to see all of the parameters (much of which we won't understand anyway). We just need a overall health report. If such a tool (or close to it) already exists, please let me know!

What computer system are you using to get compression and Nox readings?
I use the Diagnostic Link from Detroit. You can purchase it from Nexiq
The software is available in two levels. Standard which lets you do just about everything and the Professional version which can allow you to perform updates.

Looking into a 2012 Volvo belong to a o/o well taken care of but I do noticed he always puts money to this old truck and now wants to sell it asking $20K not sure it’s worth it or a money pit? Maintenance records up to date clean truck in and out. Suggestions advice much appreciated thanks.
Look at the records and see what was the last work that was done to get a good idea of what it needs.
What kind of engine?
How many miles?
Automatic or manual transmission?
