    Gary I find it very heart warming that the ladies onboard support their men through all the hardships. I watch a number of channels including Delos, Calico, La Vagabond & more. Brook you are a champion. There have been some tears but you always come through. I love watching your adventures & support you & others the only way I can. Today I turned 70 & here I am. Your the best.

      I totally agree. I watch those Sailing channels and many others. A few episodes back poor Brooke was broken 💔. But she bounced back. No doubt that Gary is a great shoulder to lean on. Hugs from Texas 🩷🤠🩷

    You should never trust the shackles for your halyards on a bosun’s chair, best practice is to tie off a bowline to secure your weight for at least the primary line just in case the shackle or the splice fails, you won’t go splat on the deck and make a mess for Brooke to clean up 😊 Congrats on the 100th episode

    • @SailingOneLife
      @SailingOneLife  Год назад +1

      Fair point, Stephen! With two halyards and two snap shackles attached we felt the redundancy was enough security for these little climbs. But, yes, agreed, always a good idea to tie a knot rather than rely on the splice and shackle, as they definitely can fail. Luckily Brooke didn't have a mess to clean
      up!

    • @charliemcgrain
      @charliemcgrain Год назад +2

      I am sure you mean well, but he had "2" lines, and I have never in 40 years aboard boats, supertankers and sailboats seen a splice fail. Lines fail long before splices. "Snap" shackles can be a little risky, but most standard shackles are bullet proof for the weight of a man.

    The forespar pole and fitting the mast track was super sweet on our boat. Biggest plus was how it was so well made and did not rattle at all. Another big plus for us two women it was so easy versus lifting the pole from deck. However, all those added pieces to fit the pole was very costly!

    It's a nice installation and all, but couldn't you have skipped the line and just used the pole to push the car up the track on the mast?

      The line is needed to set the height of the pole when it's deployed. We'll show more of it in a later episode. The line is what keeps the end of the pole at the mast from sliding down when it's in use, and allows adjustments of it's height to get the pole to level horizontal. Stay tuned we will try to show all the details of how it's used when we are out sailing with it! 😁

      @@SailingOneLife Oh, that makes sense. The height on mine is set with a spring loaded pin that goes into the holes on the track (the pin can be locked in the retracted position).

    Just be aware of potential corrosion between carbon and the aluminum on the pole

    You should wear a hard hat Brooke when Gary is up the mask just in case he drops something while he's fixing something

    That looks a lot like 2:1, not 3:1. Not that it matters. 2:1 is alot for a pole.
    It would be 3:1 if you were sitting on the pole while lifting.
