To be fair, this guy helped Francis when he was a nobody. Took care of him and helped build him in France, then brought him over to the UFC. Seems like he really cared about Francis, and not being afraid to call the big man out when he wasn't committed to training. Being the coach is sometimes the toughest wrap in the business.

No athlete in MMA receives accolades or titles without mentioning his coach and the gym that has trained him. We know Bareman and City Kickboxing Club because Adesanya made them known. That’s a reciprocal common sense thing. You cannot ignore the man who has made you great and expect all will be well. Ngannou was schooled by Miocic and more tutoring lies ahead unless he does the right thing. Honor his coach.

Second, if you grew up like Francis did, having to look after yourself from the age of about 10 with no uncle to help you out, no role model, no real home. Doing anything to put food on the table. You become damaged at some point in your life. People will take advance of you because you have no one watching your back.
Trust issues start to kick in. Francis used to go to the-same Sunday meeting with my uncle. Francis and his friends will come to park the chair just because they will have something to eat thereafter. To me, the coach should have engaged psychology for concealing.

Well, it's not like that. Francis has not yet spoken about this issue and it is a shame to bring this conflict to the public. It seems like a personal vendetta because Francis didn't show enough gratitude... I think these two men should settle this between themselves. In France, many people have criticized Coach Lopez's attitude because he only talks bad about Francis and acts as if all his athletes owe him everything. It's a win-win partnership where the fighter takes risks. If he decides to go train elsewhere, there's no need to shoot him, especially in public. But hey, when you go behind the other guy's back, that's lowering yourself to a level of indignity. By the way, he says in an interview with La Sueur that he offers $10,000 to anyone who finds an interview where Francis thanks him. Let's say he owes every Frenchman $10,000 because Francis clearly thanks him in the post-fight interview of the Overeem fight. It discredits his opinion even more. Remember he offers his opinion and not the absolute truth...

I think francis made the right decision, this guy as a coach could only get him so far and it was true because once he had some losses the coaching wasn't helping him, at the end of the day it's francis who is going Into the cage, it's francis health that takes a hit so as a fighter if you think that moving camps is better for your health than you should have no issues with that.
As a coach it is a spiritual thing for us and we want the fighter in our camp because we care for that man but as a coach we need to understand that if they are not getting the results then it's okay for them to leave.

I hear you Fernand. However, your downfall is this... you desire to be recognized, which will always lead to bad feelings if you are not recognized to be in the lime light. You must remember that a good leader is one that brings the best out of those that he/she leads. Then after, those who have been lead by you would say: look how well I have done. What this is saying is that your influence was so great that they do not even recognize it because it has become such a big part of their own self.
How often do you thank the air you breath? Yet, without the air, you would be dead. The air is one of your leaders, yet you may not realize it.
So it is with a good leader. As long as you know, that should be enough and you should be happy. Ego is the big issue here. Ego is and will always be the problem with us as men. But as you rise to be like a god... self will be put aside because you know what greatness really is.
Step back my friend, remove the ego and just know that you did your part in Francis’ life to make him what he is today. There is no greater reward that will satisfy you. Ego can cause one to be irrational. You will never look good my friend. Stay focused and be a good leader.
    Just let it go.

Ngannou even says in the Rogan podcast that when he took the first Miocic fight he had 6 weeks to prepare. If you know Ngannou's story you know he’s an immigrant and had trouble getting visa to fly back to France to train for 3 weeks. Following that loss he understood that he had to settle in the US to avoid that situation occurring ever again and he can take other opportunities that come to him on short notice and prepare for them in the US. Especially if he wanted to be successful and try to become heavyweight champion. That’s why he transitioned away from the Europe gym.
Also this coach wasn’t teaching him properly. Their comes a time where your teachings can only take you to a certain level and someone else’s knowledge can help propel you to even higher levels. That’s what happened with Ngannou. He developed and now the heavyweight champion. This coach is just a bitter egoist. You can tell just by how he talks. Ngannou always talks with humility.

He talks about Francis having an ego but he kept harping on not being praised and not being defended by Francis. I'm not saying that a coach shouldn't be valued but it's clear he's desperately seeking that attention and praise and is upset at Francis because he feels like he wasn't getting enough. That in itself is egotistical. Keep in mind that right after the Stipe fight HE threw Francis under the bus to save face for himself. Right or wrong in his criticisms the fact that his first thought was to immediately cover for himself even if it means bashing his fighter at a moment where the whole world was already shitting on him speaks volumes.

I must say that not everyone is raised the same way. When you see Ngannou talk about his upbringing and his family, you can sense that he is a self made person in many ways. When you hear coach, Lopez, you can also sense that he is a self-made man in a different way. Nevertheless, although I personally have no idea of coach Lopez upbringing, I can definitely relate to some of the values he holds dear such as expressing gratefulness, taking responsibility, standing up for those who are investing in you... etc...Where I respectfully don't agree with coach Lopez is with the unrealistic expectation that others, in this case Ngannou, must embrace the same values. I am not even sure that he was raised that way. This is not to excuse Ngannou's behavior. It is just to say that what is common sense for Lopez is not necessarily a given for Ngannou. It is difficult to expect someone who does not hold certain values and have the same upbringing to behave the same. Is there a possibility that Ngannou just does not know these things. I can only imagine how coach Lopez must be feeling because he deserves better. However, he could have educated Ngannou on this important aspect when he first started to notice it. Maybe, that is all it would have taken to show him how a champion behaves. Maybe Ngannou would have learned something that he never learned. To be where he is, coach Lopez must have had a great vision and a drive. It is clear to me that he had his share of obstacles, especially as a black man/businessman. Ngannou also had his share of obstacle and coach Lopez gave him an outlet. Throughout Ngannou's journey, it would be difficult to come out of it the same because trust is everything. The fact that coach Lopez did so much to him does not necessary mean that he gained his trust. The fact that it became personal to coach shows how much this meant to him. Sadly, taking offense and projecting certain values and behavior is what destroy strong minded and well intentioned people because they hold negative feelings. That said, considering the fact that Ngannou and coach Lopez go way back, this should have been handled privately. Attacking Ngannou's character publicly is not pretty sight, and although I respect coach's Lopez authenticity, he should only speak for himself. It is not because he had a bad experience with Ngannou that Ngannou becomes all of a sudden a bad person to the whole world. How many successful people opened a gym in their own villages in Cameroon? How many people help the youth in their own village? How many people even think of these things? Ngannou is. If this is not awesome, what is? Who am I to judge. All I meant to say is that I will never expect someone to hold the same values and to behave the way I do. As a coach, I never blame one of my players for something I did not teach including in terms of the way they behave. Remember, "Don't go to others with the lie when you know it's better handled privately between you and the liar," if the person is truly a liar. There is a popular saying in Cameroon that, "Le linge sale se lave en famille." Good luck to Coach Lopez and Ngannou. I wish them all the success and I hope they will come to realize that this fracture does not benefit anyone. This is just my two cents.
