- I went to one of my favorite creeks to do some trout fishing. I was able to catch some rainbow and brook trout with spinners. The creek water level was perfect. It was very full but not flooded and the water clarity was great. I had a rough day and had to work hard to catch trout. I lost a lot of lures and also lost a few trout. I did find a few interesting things while I was trout fishing that were pretty cool. Overall it was a good day. Sometimes, you have rough days. You just have to stay positive and look on the bright side of things. Everyone has bad days, but if you keep doing your best, you will have more good days than bad days.

@@troypayne6701 it looked like a civil war Minnie did you notice how pointed it was back then they were swaged ,most modern ones are cast, but swaging dies are still available if you know where to look.

You should tie on a swivel so that your line doesn’t get so twisted when using spinners
LIL JAY sometimes they will see them and not go for it.
@@raymolegacyhunting9954 I agree - I don't have as good of luck with a swivel.
Don't use swivels when trout fishing ever. It inhibits the movement of the lure and trout don't hit as much on it. The less the fish can see other than the lure, the better.
@@harpoonman234 I use swivels only so it's easy to change spinners. It's kinda part of the lure at that point and it's all one piece.
I've been fishing for close to 50 years and when I see stuff like this I still get excited for the season to start . Great vid .

Good to see that I'm not the only experienced fisherman who sometimes sinks a couple of lures in a single day of fishing... I just came back from a 4 day fishing trip and had to buy many new lures because I sank so many in the lake :-)

That Mepps Comet Minnow is awesome. I use it for bass, crappie, and blue gill here in Virginia. I want to do some trout fishing this year, haven't done that in a long time. Nice fishing! And that bullet was definitely an interesting find. I'm not sure, but it was probably fired out of an 1861 Springfield Rifle, which was popular during the civil war and I believe remained popular for years after the war. Definitely could have been fired during a very historic war!
I always do the same. Collect all the golf balls I find while wading. Good for the environment and good for selling them to get more fishing tackle......LOL
I went back to mono after breaking off like this in the creeks. I know flouro is supposed to make the difference, but I still get just as many fish on 2lb and 4lb. The KastKing flourokote works better than straight flouro. I might try braid to a flouro leader, but I still think I will get as many breakoffs. I got tired of losing lures with flouro and went back to good old Stren. Great vids. Congrats on all of the subs! This channel has really grown lately. I think I subbed when you were still in the 100's. You deserve it. I was hoping to see 1rod take you up on your offer.

I was using P-Line floroclear. It's fluorocarbon coated mono. It usually does pretty well for me. Thanks, I appreciate the continued support. I'm hoping to go fishing with 1rod sometime!
Rainbow trout its been awhile no fishing. I like the rainbow trout its bible and its good thing to do fishing peace and relax .

I'm continually amazed how a trout can get off a treble hook while under rod pressure! (My fingers never fair as well when I'm fishing them out of the tackle box...) I've started using spinners that have a treble hook as well as a trailing 'J' hook. Seems to help with the short strikes. Tight lines!

You need to use a swivel with spinners so your line won’t twist and break off when you cast. Sharpen your hooks. Not criticizing just sharing some experience

Your hook size is a bit too big. Happened to me last year. Lost 96% of my catch last year. Down size one size and 100% hook set.

that was some good action w the trouts...I hate it when that happens (line breaks, hook-ups w branches..etc). I could’ve built a tree house w the amount of branches I “catch”. Nice 👍 Vids.

If you wanna catch more trout. Buy some Joe's Flies spinners. You're losing too many fish because they're short striking you. Joe's Flies have a small trailer hook which helps you get more hook ups. You can find them at most sporting goods stores and Wal-Mart.

Enjoyed the vid! Your line looks like my line any time I use spinners. Line gets twisted and, eventually becomes less easy to manage. Try using the smallest ball bearing swivels you can buy. Protects your line from getting jacked up and, makes it easy to switch out lures.

Great video Don't worry I've lost more lures and jigs then anybody i know and I get the most snags to. When I trout fish i use a none barb hook between that and the small hooks for trout fishing they tend to fall off quite easy or lose the fish reeling it in.

Sharpen your hooks. To test take the hook point and run it across your fingernail if it glides its too dull. A sharp hook will grab the nail right away. Have fun, love the videos!

Try Yozuri pins minnows not cheep but worth the 7$ a minnows at Walmarts I believe theres all sizes you'll know the right size for trout..all different color patterns...my favorites are the ones that look like the trout you fish for there's a rainbow one a Brook trout one a small mouth bass one ECT you'll recognize the patterns..my friends and I got our own names for them but trust me when I say you'll thank me for the info. Also I live by black yellow and white rooster tails 1/8-1/4 ounce depending on crick size water speed depth ECT and if using lighter rooster tails throw on the smallest spit shot you can find to help it sink faster..rooster tails don't gotta be reeled straight on try some jig action while sweeping across stream gives it a fluttering bug in the water type look and with the pins minnows they're a floating minnow shallow diving but real them slowly across current and try some stop and go for finicky trout you'll love the results just be sure to match the color of minnow to your water color and it's fish on idc what your fishing for with them minnows there's an ultra series of them too that are more realistic

Great video. Love the underwater video of you releasing the fish - top notch filming! I always use a small black swivel snap when using spinners, and I never go lighter than 4lb test in a river current, more often I use 6lb test on my lightest ultra light rod.

Good morning Yesterday I fished two places in Elmira NY the first place is fished was Brick pond on Sullivan Street in Elmira NY. Iat that location I caught and released 4 channel catfish. The second place in Elmira NY was the Chemung river in that location I caught and released two flathead catfish and when I was getting ready to leave the Chemung river in Elmira NY I caught a 27 inch carp I released it back into the river fellow angler Robert Gildea Elmira NY
In addition to downsizing the hook... more finessy.... are you sharpening the hooks? I've found that even the spendy lures have less than truly sharp/sticky hooks... even straight out of the package... just a thought.

Here is a little tidbit I read today. Want a little extra sparkle on that lure? Add some tin foil to it! I dont know about you, but, I am going to try it.
When you hook a trout in a river. Lift your rod up in the air, you can direct them better and you will loose less.

There is no worse feeling than a day of loosing fish and lures at a nice trout spot.
If you go to a slightly heavier backed rod the hook set will dig in a little more. I use a medium backed but light rod

U should try drifting salmon eggs cast up stream with just a split shot weight and one of those little gold salmon egg hooks
Tighten your drag and you might not miss fish. Also that is a modern muzzleloader bullet, a musket from the Civil War would have shot an almost perfectly round lead ball.
I think rainbow trout are one of the most beautiful fish... have you ever tried a trout magnet. Cotton candy. White. Mealworms. Work the best for me. Just use a Carolina rig and they work better

I’m a little surprised. I never saw you lose that many lures, unless you’ve edited them out. Happens to everybody though. Hawk, do you ever sharpen your hooks on whatever you’re using? Someone suggested maybe your hooks are a little big, which is possible, but it never hurts to clean up your hook points. Just sayin’. Tell ya what. Watching your vids are the next best thing to actually catching the fish myself. Love your channel. Continued good luck 👍
Just got back from fly fishing in Eastern Townships, Quebec, Canada.
Got my limit both days with brookies and rainbows. I caught a 4lbs rainbow with a black gnat.
The bad part is it took under an hour to reach legal limit on both days 😕
