These videos are so valuable for those with the same vehicle. And, once you've opened enough side panels, the common theme shines through. Good reference.
good job. when removing the trim piece by the inside handle i always use a screw driver and pry between the piece that comes off and the part that stays.
Ever notice how when someone else works on something it just looks so much easier, but if you do it, it demands a lot more involvement... LOL Nice job... . Merrie-Merrie
I agree with the last comments this job is a pain. I have never installed an oe part usually doorman. U had an oe part. Doorman is just off enough that nothing fits I've got several working and 3 days later the customer comes back with the door not opening and the clip broke. I would like to see u get the rod connected to the handle. Yours should be broken again it's been a while please make a more detailed video.
remove the interior panel...remove the screws from the regulator panel, use a short piece of 2x4 to hold regulator plate out from the rear of the door. remove the bolts that hold the handle. pop off the clips from the door actuator rod, pop the lock cylinder from its mounting hole...leave the lock rod in place...leave the lock hang loose in the hole. THEN, to replace....put the actuator rod in its place and start handle into its hole. as the handle goes into place, start the lock cylinder into its hole as the handle is partially in place, be sure to push the lock all the way into its mounting hole...and boom...put everything back...i fought for 3 hours and figured out the best and easiest way, was to put the lock cylinder in as you put the handle in place as you go. no way can you install the handle with BOTH rods hooked in the handle...good luck and hope it helps
+jim williams Thanks for mentioning this. Went to replace both inner/outer drivers side handles yesterday. Inside one was a snap and somehow DID get the outside handle in with everything attached and whalla...oh, doesn't work? Argh. Think one of the 2 rods came off in the jiggling process. Like you said, reinserting the lock as it's being put in is likely my answer I think as combined with the arm above it fighting to get in as well at the same time seemed an impossible task but thought I had won that battle. Can't be climbing over the passenger seat every time I get in. Must attack again today and will use your recommendation about the lock.
I just replaced mine by taking off the panel. I'm curious if taking the rod retaining clips off from the outside is easier than from the inside. Because they are nearly impossible from the inside. As people mention it would be nice to see how that went.
I'm surprised that you went to any trouble at all to install the inner 10mm bolt. GREASE the socket and it will stay in place as you insert it through the hole and into the handle threads. Now that I made that part easy, the rest of this job is NOT as you say easy. Unless some of us have trucks that GM really MADE difficult. Lots of frustrations with this job... Especially when I compare it with the ease of working on ANYTHING on my '64 Chevy truck. All this difficulty is ENGINEERED into these vehicles, along with cheap pot metal and plastic fragile parts DESIGNED to break and cost the owner a lot of $ to have a dealership repair.
+Donny B Thanks for the GREASE tip- It worked great and I did the entire job, inner and outer door handles on my 97 Silverado in about an hour. I got mine off Ebay for about $20 shipped for both.. maybe not the best quality, but they work!... for now ;)
nice. I changed a lock barrel on a seat ibiza 2001, too pricey to buy a whole set so I just used the lock barrel from the passenger side and put it in to the drivers side. thats all I needed since it had central locking. took me some time but saved me a lot of money i could say.
I took the inside door panel off and everything completely and still barley got the door and metal rods connected. It's still messed up too the door handle and lock it's working somehow
I understand. While the rods work great, any sort of hard stress bends them and then the guessing game starts. I’m not in doors enough to think of that right out of the gate.
Your video was great...up until when you reinstalled the inner rods which open and close and lock and unloce to the new handle. First of all, the rods are an absolute bitch to get out without busting the metal clips and secondly, it takes a freaking act of God to get the handle back in the opening with the two rods attached. I've fought with this for three plus hours and it still isn't in. It will fit with just the door lock rod hooked up but forget it if the rod that depresses when the handle is activated is locked in place. Wish I could tell you how to get it back in but up to now, no idea. Also, the window mech is attached to the panel you removed so when you slide it down, the window comes with it making getting inside the door damn near impossible. Sorry, but this video was no help at all.
Randy Herman you have to unbolt the latch to get slack to push the rod for the door handle in for it to go in the opening. I find with the door handle pulled up it goes in better. they are assholes to work with.use to build wrecks in the day. It was easier with the glass out and black panned removed. putting that all back sucked to.
so there is another way, it is not "easy" but, it is certainly more direct, and slightly risky, Anyway, on my 1998 Silverado three door, i was able to remove the door vent, three screws, then with some patience and a ratchet wrench socket 10mm and my small hand, i was able to remove the inside door bolt. Basically that bolt is the whole reason you have to remove the panel and stuff. So here goes and it is not easy especially, if you have big hands or wrists, and if my hands had been thick or short fingered i def would not have attempted my method. However, I was completely done in 20 minutes tops! no panel removal or of any of the conventional disassembly steps. just thought those who have small to average size hands and wrists know that my method worked perfectly.

wish you would have shown how to replace the door handle. you showd it after you were done.

Good video.... but you skipped how to reinstall the mechanism... having a hard time to do this process.
Didnt show the 2 lever hookups. Its crucial. We tryed 10 times no luck
Thanks for the helpful instructions and saving me money on the same cracked handle I had on my Chevy !

Thank you for the info.It let me do it myself.Keep it up.

OFFICERRampage thanks for mentioning that. I wont bother watching.

Yeah, I have a new handle on order, when it gets in I'll be re-shooting this video.
