So beautiful Judy, I lost my 27 yr old nephew in 2015. Thank you for this amazing song from your heart.
Such courage interpreting this beautiful song in front of a public who greatly admired you, thank you Judy Collins.
Twelve years ago today my beautiful son , age 27, Jay, died. In a city far away, cold by a river. So many parallels. Thank you Judy from the bottom of my heart for writing this song for Clarke...it feels so eerily similar to my boy Jay. Miss you Jay.
Very sorry for your loss.
Oh Peggy, so very sorry. We lost one too.
She just spilled her heart out, didn't she? I think she was in tears at the end......
Judy Collins talked about how she managed the terrible loss of her son to suicide, and she spoke of her initial desire to leave the world in general and music in particular. She spoke of Joan Rivers, who lost her own husband to suicide, and who convinced Judy that she must continue to make music. I thank God for these women. Thanks for the encouragement, thanks for the music that never lets us forget our humanity, and thanks for showing us the strength of the human heart.
Thanks for posting this!!
Like fine vintage wine, Judy keeps getting better with age, doesn't she????
How truly beautiful.
The voice of an angel. I've been listening to Judy at least a couple of times each week for fifty years.
Just love Judy. A genuine and special soul she is.
If there are such things as angels, they sing like Judy Collins.
Yes, they do.
Yup!!!!
Judy Collins has always been such an incredible singer, touching so eloquently on both love and loss. I can't imagine what it would be to lose a child as this tribute to her son is so lovingly evident. I played her song, "Pirate Ships", at my mother's funeral. I did so for my niece who was 11 at the time of our mother's death. My niece grew up in a dysfunctional family of abuse and drugs, but my mother's love and home was always a sanctuary to her. That song described a loving soul, an angel, who would always embrace and love you in spirit. Thank you, Ms. Collins, for your talent and giving voice to those we have lost.
Good god, she's as powerful an artist and performer as they come.
I actually prefer this live version over the studio version. The string ensemble makes a huge addition and difference here! And Judy's emotions with this song in memory of Clark are so evident.
My heart cried for her imagine her pain not being able to hear his voice again Not being able to touch his face Imagine her pain Imagine her being all alone .Imagine not having your child near How would you feel What would you feel?
A mother remembering her dearly loved son :(
What a beautiful song this is. Thank you Judy, for your songs which capture our souls. Montreal, Canada has a very special place for you in our hearts ever since you put Leonard Cohen on the American stage and recorded so many of his songs. We love you Judy Collins...and I am so very sorry for your loss.
Beautiful, just beautiful. Does it get any better than this?
ty from another mother whose son is in the light.
sorry for your loss .
The voice that defines a generation! Bravo
How beautiful, an emotional tribute to her son.
Her piano skill is unbelievable... to be able to sing while playing so deftly... what a talent. Beautiful song.
This is very touching, but so tough to hear. Tears and tears and tears.
How I love this wonderful woman, and this gifted singer of songs of God, and this wise woman/sister in life. Oh, how I thank God for you Judy Collins. God Bless You. You don't know how much you have blessed this woman/widow's life.
I don't know how she gets through this - I can't and I'm just listening to it. And I am still hurt and mad and it has been 35 years.
We never stop missing & loving them, wherever they are.
Sorry for your loss .
I can't ever keep from breaking down every time I watch you. I'm so sorry you lost your son. I can't inagine how I would act if I lost my only Son. I pray you will remember me when You come into Your Own. Bless Your Sweet Heart
