A masterpiece. I always loved the Byrds’ version, but Wikipedia informed me of Judy’s, so I came here. This is so perfect. I’m choked up listening to this knowing where we were then and where we were going. It’s good to remember that our country has been through some tough challenges. We have the ability to endure the challenges of our own time. Who are the voices of today?

I'm one of them, yet am still trying to break through. Long story to this, but going back to Judy; yes, i'd never heard this before either until now and had the same reaction. I'm so much in agreement with your feelings and words. But unfortunately, the bad apples permeate the entire carts in my country, the USA, and also abroad. Just a few with matches can burn it all down! I know i'm mixing metaphors, but i just have to say that the book from where the lyrics are derived? If only more could read and heed the insight and compassion of the writer (some say Solomon, others have other opinions) shown within those 12 chapters. The world would be "woke", actually! Being alert and sensitive is always better than out-of-touch slumber.

It’s from the Old Testament. Pete Seeger's song "Turn! Turn! Turn!" takes all but one of its lines from the Book of Ecclesiastes chapter 3.
I love how you mixed the metaphors so appropriately.

Yeah look up Judith as well on YT don't take my word for it. However although Sissel sings in 15 different languages Judith only sings in English.

RE: Bible certainly can produce some of the best lyrics
      And the worst.
There really is no time for war. And if there were a god who set such a time for humans such god would be evil and despiseable.
But... Perhaps I am too pessimist, How about a song from Deuteronomy. We will call it, "So The LORD Will Rejoice Over You To ......"
      ******************************************************************************
28:62 And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the LORD thy God.
28:63 And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it.
28:64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
28:65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
28:66 And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:

MusicMadMaurice I did not pick up any statement from him that he wants to promote the antics of the Democrat party. He is referring to the time positive won over the negative, as opposed to todays, over-the top- nonstop-gnashing-of teeth and chronic diaper rash symptoms of contemporaries of ones that lecture those that were actually living at that moment, even though they, ( the gnashers) did not.

      Every Generation Bible verses

    • @buckjohnson1119
      @buckjohnson1119 4 года назад +3

MusicMadMaurice The song is verses from the Bible. It’s not about Jim Crow- caused by the Democrat party that fought for slavery. Then
Killed Abraham, when he was going to send every person back to the jungles of Africa that wanted to go back and be enslaved, again.
Those that wanted to stay and were Citizens
Were doing well if they weren’ harassed and murdered by the democrat kkk. So as I read, you took his comments on how Judy’s singing of Bible passages, and voice quality had been lost in today’s world.
You interpreted it in hussein rhetoric. Most of what comes out of many younger people today is our country was bad. And you know it for sure, because you didn’t live a day in it. None of us would be here, if it wasn’t for those that came and shaped or protected our nation, before us.
Just saying. So as I recall, you introduced
Violence into what he was saying were better Times where People respected each other. Especially when they followed teachings of Jesus, and God given, singing talent., By the way, Judy is Canadian. Not sure on Canada’s
Lynching history.. maybe you forget, your original, ‘Lynching and Segregation,’ Statement. I simply replied on that with a history lesson. Not bizarre at all.

Classic beautifully clear singing, a holy voice, and magical instrumentation. Thankyou the 1960's. A time, when many things that needed to be said were nearly made known. A shame the social revolution and spiritual awakening eventually failed, and did not quite realise it's truest and most beautiful potential. To "overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil" ; and instead find the beauty of grace that comes from above, and to live in it, victoriously. A living ongoing miracle. What it was all about really. The answer to all the wars suffering poverty and inequality that had gone before. Now, look where we are today, in the West ! A disgrace.

      Chad Quick,
"... how many of those young men in the audience ... didn't come home?" ( 2:03 )
Or did come home a very different person, able to see the words of this song differently than before.

    To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose
    Under heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
    To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose
    Under heaven
    A time to buid up
    A time to break down
    A time to dance,
    A time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together
    To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose
    Under heaven
A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
    A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing
    To everything turn, turn, turn
There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose
    Under heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rain, a time of sow
A time for love, a time for hate
    A time for peace
I swear it's not too late

I find this not only breathtaking but deeply moving as well. Judy's voice has such a pure tone and clarity and her performance is just perfect. Also, the simple accompaniment adds enormously to the overall effect. I am so glad I lived through those extraordinary times and felt the compassion and love then which is so evident in Judy's voice. For me, this is one of the most beautiful things on RUclips.

Did anybody happen to mention TO THESE KIDS how rude it is to engage into something else while someone is talking to you ? Im referring to addressing the phone while in a conversation .

That was a BBC studio audience. They would have had to book tickets and you didn't always get them for the show you wanted, but these were free. The system always seemed to work and the audiences always gave the performer a fair chance, but these days most BBC shows are made by outside firms with their own policies and so on. The BBC is one of those institutions which is most definitely NOT as it was in the sixties, or even the eighties. The allegations made against the BBC's Martin Bashir by Earl Spencer (no relation to me) almost defy belief, but although they seem to be worse than anyone could have imagined, I'm sorry to say I am inclined to believe Earl Spencer. If anyone has single-handedly killed the BBC, it is Martin Bashir. Tonight in Person was one of the BBC's treasures and we are not going to see its like again, because I doubt that the BBC can survive the coming scandal.
