The true genuine admiration Denzel and Frances have for each other is so evident here. They’re each others biggest fans and it’s endearing to see. This art of acting is not about one actor or individual. It is to be shared and Cherished among all and they continually remind me of that. 🙏🏿
They are both very down to earth and come across as "Everyday People" that you would see in the street or in a shop or Cafe or Bar. They are real Celebrities because they have Nothing to do with the Trashy celebrity Culture that we see every day in the Media. They are both very far removed from that Shallow, Vacuous Kardashian type Culture. In fact I wouln't even compare them to the Trashy . Cheap, empty, so called "Celebs" who are only Famous for being Famous . They are miles away from that Vulgarity and My Respect and admiration for them is Enormous.
A Coen version of the tragedy of Macbeth with McDormand and Washington as leads? Yes pleas! I also love how unpretentious and humble they all are despite being legends themselves, it’s a true lesson on class and talent.
As a 24 yo who also has a flip phone, I dislike how she parades it around at different press conferences. She did it at Cannes a few years ago and i just cringed
Frances McDormand was absolutely spellbinding as Lady Macbeth! Definitely one of the best! Seriously shocked at the lack of awards recognition she’s been getting!
I thought her performance was quite amazing. I must say that I’ve been surprised too that she hasn’t even been nominated for any of the major awards so far. Maybe she’ll be nominated for an Oscar but that seems like a long shot right now. Not quite sure why she’s not getting the buzz that she deserves for this movie except that she just won her third Oscar and the media/press may think it’s too much to give her more recognition so soon.
This movie is NOT a modern rendition of the story of Macbeth. It's performed in Early Modern English. Washington's performance was good, definitely worth watching. McDormand was masterful and definitely the scene stealer; she was just brilliant as Lady Macbeth and will probably be nominated for the Oscar.
Two incredible acting titans Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. A brilliant director Joel Coen. One of the greatest playwrights of all time Shakespeare. Can't wait for this film to come out.
I just watched it and this piece of art is terrific. Those two are two of the most talented actors in Hollywood and i love her for being always herself truly, unconditionally.
Saw it. There's just no way anybody is beating Denzel for the Oscar this year. 'Course I thought that about 'Malcolm X' and 'Fences,' too, so what the hell do I know ...? He better win this time. He deserves it.
@@samosullivan1744 Agreed. Garfield and the film are amazing. I confess I saw "Tick, Tick ... Boom!" after I saw 'Macbeth.' I'm actually in the Garfield camp now as far as Oscar is concerned and I say that after obviously being so incredibly passionate about Denzel in 'Macbeth.' Both performances are amazing, more than techhnically proficient, unforgettable. But Garfield gets the edge with a 'touched by the Gods' feeling I haven't experienced in a movie since Hilary Swank in 'Boys Don't Cry.' I love me some Denzel and I do stand by the idea that Macbeth is among his two or three greatest performances but, as we have seen time and again in the past, sometimes an actor gets the actual award for a film where he was good (re: 'Training Day') but gets nominated again and again for even better performances. Another case in point: 'Boys Town' was not Spencer Tracy's finest moment yet it's one of the film's he won Oscar for. Garfield for the win ... almost begrudgingly. Lucky us to have two such monumental performances at year's end.
Out of that long list, he should’ve won for that muscular performance in _Fences_ . Maybe not a great film per se, but certainly feels like a great night out at the theatre for those who couldn’t make it to Broadway.
@@PurushaDesa Agreed. I remember Denzel being somewhat crestfallen yet humbly accepting the year he was Oscar-nominated for 'Fences' saying, "that little boy" (Casey Affleck) would likely win, and Affleck did. But no one remembers Affleck's film or seeks it out and no one even remembers his win. Also, it should be remembered that Denzel was not even nominated for 'American Gangster,' one of those performances that send you to your Oscar book and you find you can't believe the nomination isn't there.

I want to see Joel Coen do other Shakespeare stories; I would love to see him do a comedy like Much About Nothing or Merchant of Venice. I think it would be so beautiful to see him either explore this style of telling Shakespeare's plays or play around with the styles. Give Joel his own Cornetto series but William Shakespeare!

Francis talking about messing with the punctuation... we fail??? We Fail! Such a great off-hand line reading, and really captivating to hear and see how a small shift in tone and perspective totally changes the meaning of the character and text. Washington, who's been totally captivated by this schooling: let's go kill 'em now. lol
Brilliany adaptation..absolutely brilliant…in 7 years of High School in Jamaica, I studied a Shakespeare play each year…Macbeth was the one I studied for 2 years for my GCE O’Level,(Cambridge) Literature examination…of all the adaptations I have watched, this was, hands down, the BEST…the stripped down ‘backdrop’ amplified the clarity of the dialogue..of course, the delivery of the dialogue was also amplified….brought the meaning of said dialogue to life with such clarity….Found the black n white choice of filming a stroke of genius…echoed the pathetic fallacy of Macbeth’s downfall…of course the actors made this film a triumph….Denzel’s delivery breathed new life into the understanding of the Bard’s words….I found myself so transfixed that I would flashback to class discussions of what Shakespeare’s words meant…..so much I could say but will stay with, ‘bloody well done…hats off to Joel , the crew n especially to Denzel….u conquered the Bard’s words….wish I could see u tackle KING LEAR, another of Shakespeare’s ‘tragic heroes’….studied that play ,along with HENRY IV PT 1 for my GCE A’ Levels Literature….of course Coen would have to make that film also…..
