The challenge:
- Beat King Hrolf with Sparta set, Aspis shield and all burdens on GMGOW, NG+.
Some notes/tips for this challenge:
Aspis shield parry window is equivalent to the Dauntless shields 'perfect parry'. By using Burden of Guard, you're essentially required to perfect parry every parriable attack Hrolf uses - failing to parry results in a guard break followed by instant death. Additionally, Aspis shield does decent damage on counter, so it's worth learning parry timings over dodging, as dodging will only drag the fight out longer + There's 1 move that forces you to parry so you may as well get used to it 🗿
The 2 main moves to learn are the hammer spins and hand blast.
- Hammer Spins: hrolf has 3 variations of swings: yellow ring (medium speed), red ring (slow - delayed), no ring (fast). Hrolf can mix these swings in any order (always ends in red ring). Towards the end of the fight, the hammer spin goes for double the duration and has crazier mix ups, so it's best to get a parry in asap followed by shield slam (R2 counter) as this interrupts his combo.
- Hand Blast: Hrolf raises his arms and releases energy - can't be dodged, only parried. There's 2 variations of this move: 1 with start up animation and the other without. It's essential to master both parry timings.
As for projectiles:
- The "down the hole" double projectile toss can be blocked, but not parried. It's not possible to dodge without rolling, unless you use an evasive attack after to stack iframes as shown in the video.
- Air projectile toss: Fast projectile in the middle followed by delayed projectiles both sides. Dodge first projectile and evasive attack the second (works close - medium range). You can out-run the projectiles at long range, but I failed to get it consistent. Instead use Valour parry.
more notes: stay close as possible, use valour, block immediatley when hrolf goes in air for blinding attack and spear is best for this fight: use syphon for stun build up. In the end it's all about your mechanics, gl.
Sens: 7/7, interact/evade swapped: O is dodge. strafe assist: on.

Working my way through bosses doing this rn. This fight was incredible to watch man. The length of this fight with no mistakes is truly amazing. As far as I'm concerned, you've officially beat God of War Ragnarok.

I love how he knows every move he’s doing
He’s not just spamming dodge he telegraphs Hrolf’s attacks and counters them
Mortals like me would never be on that level or even be close
Also since he’s using all burdens every time he dodges he gets slowed down
the reason hes not spamming dodge is because of the burden if he does a full dodge hell take damage from that burden and die because of the armour set

Bifrost becomes irrelevant when you're wearing the Spartan set because literally everything one-shots you anyway.

That weave and dodge by SmvR is by far the most creative move I have ever seen ANY gamer pull off. I can only imagine how long he practiced perfecting that move.

Your timing of attack's and blocks are unmatched. I am pretty sure SMS took a lot of inspiration from your combats to make GoWR NG+ gears and make it even more challenging. I have shown your videos to the people at work who have nothing to do with video games and even they were stuck to the screen and didn't leave until fight was completed. My man, i'm trying beat this game in gmgw while getting everything upgraded and i'm getting killed every time, and you just do it with level 1, a true master.
Here it is the challenge to end all challenges. I mean other than doing this blindfolded idk what's left in the 8 realms. I love the slight delays on the parry counter so you use it as an extra invincibility frame or to cancel a red ring attack.

Those negating attacks are super new to me.
That double ice/fire/shock wavy bolt attack the Berserkers do gets me often. I usually try to time it well for a quick double dodge but now i see i can negate the second following bolt.
not gonna lie, that last dodge before the finisher was disrespectful and I love it.

This one feels like the LAST one of all bosses of the highest difficulty. Once you beat berserker king with burden spartan, you are officially the best and beaten everything. Like defeating RED from Pokémon.
