A tip for learning the timing on instant flaming whiplash-turn vibration on! After any attack with the blades equipped, you’ll feel a very slight buzz-this is the “momentarily after” window, and if you press triangle as soon as you feel it, it’ll charge up Flame Whiplash 6:37
100%... whiplash is indeed delayed more than the Axe equivalent. On the Axe, you can hit Triangle when the active animation is over, on whiplash, if you wait until Kratos is in his standard pose, that's a great visual cue. *you can also cancel side step to speed up recovery... But as someone who enjoys the Ellusion enchantment that extends side steps and traversal it evens out... I'm thinking of getting rid of that Enchantment as i think you still have the same amount of invul. Both at the start but it's more for ground coverage as I use it... we'll see. great point.
I would like to personally share a really powerful endgame build of mine. Its main focus is on stunning enemies. You'll first want to get the Steinbjorn chest piece for it's very high defense stat. You can also get the wrist and leg pieces for more defense, or you can use the raven tears wrist and leg pieces for healing (I personally prefer the latter). You then want to equip three Svartalfheim enchantments for more stun depending on your defense (that's what the Steinbjorn armor is for) and equip the Stunning Fang enchantment. The rest are up to you, but I recommend the Niflheim enchantments for their damage buff. You'll be mainly using the spear, so I recommend either the Battle-Scarred Sauroter or the Warrior's Echo Sauroter for their synergies with sonic and stun. The axe and blades aren't that important, so you can use whatever attachments you want. Also, the runic attacks do not matter, so choose what you want. Any shield is good, but the Shatter Star shield combined with the Rond of Fortification make a good combo and can apply a lot of stun. That is all.
I like the berserker chest but ended up using Sol's Spaulders of Courage for Gna and Berserker King because I needed the extra HP boost 😅 Love the realm shift gear though that dodge-realm shift is so clutch
I just found a fantastic combo with Seal of Runic Storm. While the Axe and Blade Runics don't matter, if you use Whisper of the World on the Spear as the final Rune Attack it will draw every enemy towards you, keep them staggered, and cover them in Bifröst. Then, when you blow them away, it will trigger the Bifröst and kill almost everyone in the area. I have ended fights with a single use of this strategy.
I'm still in the process of testing out multiple more builds myself, but I do think the elemental build I put together could be another good option on harder difficulties as well with the right combos and maybe some minor adjustments. Here is a video we did on it if you're curious about the details: ruclips.net/video/l56gcwETw94/видео.html
After watching playthroughs 2-3 times, the new combat system always looks practically the same but different at the same time. But it was more like "hard to understand". After watching a couple of your guides, I now understand that the difference is even beyond day and night. I'm just impatient for the pc release to practice all these tips and give all the builds a go. This has been very helpful, thank you.
Thanks again for all of these helpful videos. I just finished the main game and had a blast! Without your guides, I certainly would have been a bit frustrated as there's a lot that goes into understanding the best builds and strategies in this game. Appreciated!
I use the tank build you mentioned but instead of celestial panacea, poison protector and bright eyed-emblem; I use a Niflheim set for that increased damage over 75% health, which is easily obtainable almost all the time
The way you explain things in your videos is next level. The context and “how to’s” are much appreciated. Underrated and awesome channel! Love this game so much. What other games do you recommend from the last few years (only just got a PlayStation)
Hey thanks! This is very kind of you 🙏🏼 Glad you're finding my vides helpful 😁 And congrats on getting a PlayStation! Welcome to some of the best games on the planet 😎 GoW is excellent, as you've already found. I have to recommend Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West to you. Those are my favorite games of all time and the main focus of my channel 😁 Other similar games are Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 1 and 2. The Last of Us is dark though (Zombies, gore, etc.). Final Fantasy 16 was also really good and that's a PS exclusive right now. It also just got a free DLC like Ragnarok. If you like the idea of a superhero game, the Spider-Man games are good, too. Feel free to join my Discord server (link in video descriptions). There's lots of people on there that can give you tons of recommendations! 😁
Arktix! These are some amazing builds, thank you for making this video! As always, high quality and informative. I also appreciate that you give credit where credit is due. Awesome job and keep it up!
Started playing a month ago and i'm in late game now. Been using your tips. The Lunda felt clunky to me at first, having been used to the axe and blades in the 2018 game. But after learning the poison style it absolutely shreds. At Level 8 now, and there's very little i can't destroy first try. Except the occasional Berserker. Was gonna try the Berserker/Dragon build but i can't be bothered to do the Muselpheim trials to get divine ashes to upgrade it. Sticking with Lunda till the end.
The gap between GMNM and GMGoW is actualy pretty significant because of mob enemies and mini-bosses can level themselves up halfway through the fights.
I found this really nice build that boosts momentum gain with some nice stats too. I’m using the sol’s chest for the perk mainly with the undying pyres wrist and waist. I pair that with grips and pommels of the nine realms and it’s like I always have realm shift. It’s pretty nuts IMO
Also would you consider making a guide like these for the 2018 game? Trying to find like a perfect build for fighting valkyries. I’ve been trying to max out all stats or at least get close but can’t find a combination that does it
@@IllSourUrSkittle it's not much but what I used is full ivaldi deadly mist. njords tempest and ivaldis anvil runic for your axe. (Use whatever runic on your blades you won't be using them other than to pop your runics" It's more of a battle of waiting for your runic to recharge. Use atreus wolves as well
Nice build! I'll have to try it out. Thanks for sharing it 👍 Maybe someday I'll go back and do guides for 2018, but like @Solaire2332 said, I mainly used the mist armor.
@@ArktixOfficial yea I found a really nice one in new game plus. But in ragnarok I’m going back and forth between mani’s Pauldron or sol’s depending on the situation
I use the entire undying pryes set just the damage with chaos blades is amazing against bosses and since it works with all the weapons I just juggle so I can negate damage with the skills. I don’t take the game as Seriously as these people
Just a quick note: I appreciate that you don't wanna spoil anything but just seeing GNÁ for a couple of seconds is a spoiler in itself I find... I really enjoy watching your GOW videos and have also very much enjoyed your Horizon Forbidden West content! Keep it up good sir 🙂
Great content! I found myself sticking to that Giptumadar’s plate for most of the game as soon as I got it because I love using runic and relic abilities so much. I never spent too much time worrying about getting the most out of the builds, but now that I’ve completed the game and want to go for round two on Give Me God of War I need to be intentional about learning the gear bonuses and special combat tricks
@@FedoraTechAs someone who is absolutely horrid at the game, I'd recommend going for the Berserkers with a high defense build with enchantments that increase damage based on defense (there's a ton of videos on 'em) until you get Skofnung. Also if you're gonna main Sonic with Freya/Atreus then I suggest using the Hilt of Angvardall because it's pretty good for using against enemies with the Sonic effect (plus what it does is cool in itself), tho once you get Skofnung it really doesn't matter lol P.S. haven't gotten to Hrolf yet, so I'm sorry if this is bad advice, defense builds helped me a lot so far
Thanks! And yeah I've thought about that. I'm really not keen on replaying the story just to get to the bosses though lol. I should have done a better job making manual saves as I went 😅
I cannot wait to see your NG+ Builds, especially since we now have Charms based on the armour sets. I go with the Survival Set, the Grip & Darkdale Handles, Soldier's Sauroter, the Dauntless Shield with the Rond of Volition, and the Glaive of Dødher. For Charms, I use three Asgard Runes, the Boon of Wrath, the Nidavellir, Fate Breaker, and Máni Engravings, the Badge of Absorption, and the Seal of Runic Storm. For Light Runics, I use Skaði's Edge, Flames of Anguish, and Whisper of the World. They all have short Cooldowns, and Whisper of The World will draw every enemy in to cover them in Bifrost. My Heavy Runics are Ivaldi's Anvil, Nemean Crush, and Honour the Fallen.
What I found to be best was berserker chest, and berserker gauntlets (I dodge more than parry and in boss fights you will hit them much more then they hit you and then the waist can be a lot of things, surtrs and vidars work well as I like high damage, but will also go with radiance because its just fun. As far as handles go I think its nearly unquestionable to do olympic on spear as the strength boost is great for combos, and then have the axe be furious maul or base surivial one and the blades be nine realms as you don't need to realm shift on every weapon as maelstorm is transferrable so you can just switch to the one weapon you have it on and use it. This is a big mistake I see a lot. I use dauntless, shield rond I change between a few idrc on that. runics are basically the same as listed here, njords tempest, ivaldis anvil, hades retribution, nemean crush, thousand spears, and then I use vindsvalir windstorm but ehh on that one. Enchantments I change a lot but nine realms and elusiveness ones are good, and then based on the sets stats boost and if im using radiance will determine them. Hilt is hofung until I beat hrolf, and got skofung, but beat hrolf in 15 minutes with the above build (i think I used vidars for him).
I’m almost 50 and I realize my reflexes and patience is not what it used to be. I’m at the point where I’m tired of grinding and playing beserkers for almost an hour just to beat them (takes 30 minutes to dwindle their health to half). I can guarantee I have been playing this game wrong, but I’m not going to play this game hours on end just to perfect some of these moves. I play to enjoy and enjoy a challenge, but apparently my play style sucks.
😂 yea, man, I'm 46, and all these buttons combinations, etc, are too much to memorize in this game. I enjoy the game a lot, but if it wasn't for RUclips walk throughs, I'd hate it, especially all the puzzles and back tracking
No idea if youll see this: i ruined 2018 this way. My rec is even if on lower diff do 3 things: 1: Learn to parry. Not reflex; game intentionally makes you parry early. Changes combat for the better. 2) Play valhalla dlc on slightly too hard for a while. Learn the move they force you to each time. Like it? Keep using. No? Trash 3) Attempt to not get hit at all in fights: 1 hit 1 death. Just makes you get better. ESPECIALLY when using runics. 4) Hint 4 bonus: For bosses, pretend you're on GMGOW: they lead. You punish their openings. Spam 2 runics at start sure, nd a quick 3rd. More n you're dead. Seriously overall just valhalla as follows if you found the difficulty FINE or easy: Story: Lowest: valhalla:+10% Story: balance: +20% No mercy - +30% Gmgow: +40% You will lose Each run learn about the moves they're encouraging:) Now i love gow on gmgow --- dmc redo not ruined next!
lundas chest + dragons waist/bracers > full lunda. lundas needs to wait for poison state, dragon is on all shield. let's say each hit is 10, and since shield is 3/4 attacks, it's 56 lunda v 55 dragon, but dragon doesn't wait for poison state. not sure what the str increase does for dmg, but it may even be stronger even with the 3/4 hits per combo I've found it plays faster and stronger, anyway, killer video!! your defensive build was the only way I could get past some of the trials
I found the tanky build the easiest to use for my play style. Not sure where I found it but steinbjorn as you mentioned, surtr arms and waist, rond of restoration, agree with amulet slots. I third attempted gna with this build and finally beat BK after struggling for hours with the berserker build.
"Nocked Proficiency" (Every 3rd arrow fires an additional arrow, then 2, then 3 while upgrading) and "Runic Potency" (while Summon is on cooldown *Massively increase the status of Runic arrows) Might net better Stun/ Stun damage than "Reckless Empowerment" & "Sonic Attunement" imo for Fae's Stun set up *Especially w/ the Stunning Fang Enchantment amazing for crowds, but also has a Damage stacker... the DPS you can output in the short amount of time it takes to regen 1 arrow isn't worth it imo. However shooting 3 extra arrows per 3rd arrow has INSANE capabilities... particularly if you upgrade to Fae's 4th arrow, You'll never run out of stunning an enemy when you choose.
Good question. I used the Dragon build for that and it worked well. If you already have Berserker gear though you could use one of the builds based on that.
I used Lunda's all through NG, then went berserker chest + dragon leg/waist on NG+. I think vidar's is stronger than dragon but I like using unarmed combat and the +50% dmg from dragon makes it somewhat comparable to the weapons. Dragon affects every unarmed hit except the kick. :D
My favourite build is the Fate Breaker set with the Rond of Volition, the Soldier's Sauroter and the Darkdale grip and handles. I tend to ignore the Realm-Related Amulets and stick with ones that require specific Status Levels. I recommend the Emblem of Elusion, which requires a Cooldown of 60 and gives you a higher step dodge range. Edit; Alternatively, the Rond of Obliteration gives almost as many stats while also giving you a way to apply Bifröst after holding the block button.
oh man this video is fantastic dude thank you so much for doing it, I did skip to the builds that I think were interesting but nonetheless thank you so much
This is what makes the game special. It isn't like some other games where there is a broken build you can use. All about play style and prefrence. When I built my most defensive build with Svart and Nef enchanments I had a lot of fun. Full Vidar is quite enjoyable and it will be much more interesting if you swap the chest for the Dragon/Berserker.
I got a crazy build that probably deserves a new video for you. Your discord link is broken and typing here on my phone is so slow. Imagine having 2 massive health bars in the hardest difficulty and if you get knocked down you come back to life with more than 1 full health bar. There is cooldown and damage bonuses, a small realm shift, multiple ways to heal and you get to use the best shield in the game.
I’m at the end of the game (story over, funeral done, trials beaten, gna defeated) and I’m just at the King battle now. I am wanting to upgrade the Ninth Realm outfit but I am low on Forged Iron (only have 2 left because I sold some earlier in the game). I’m not even sure where I could find some Forged Iron if I’ve literally 100% completed everything from everywhere (unless I missed a red glowing chest or something somewhere). Does anyone know how I can get some of those smaller materials? I was hoping to get some during the trials but I never was awarded any of that item.
I got beserker chest and vidar arms and waist. The enchantments are asgards and vanaheium. Surprising the build I thought was orginal was a meta build. Im just gonna make a luck build noe
@ S G i think my build will use tyr/beserker combo along with vanaheium set. I'll use spear more cause of luck, but I'll switch whenever a weapon gets blessed
i played none of that and i managed 2 complet the game on gmgw difficult but i tested a simular luck(you can make yu invinseble in this set that u get way less damage whyle ruin attaks and you can use the pisen abilitie aswell in NEW GAME+) set i played alot of part f the poisen(build) but what works the best for me was an biuld out of defense stun and elemental damage boost and gainspeed of elemental damage
I have a question why we need to do sheild strike btween flame whiplash its already an attack so why not just let the animation finish then press triangle to charge the blades??? Also what u think of dying pyers armour at least arms and belt with some other chest plates??

Also can you please explain how to use this berserker build? Like what attacks you wanna go for.
This ia an awesome video. Thanks for the Info. The luck build is OP.
Hey thanks! Glad you like the luck build 😄
Like it? Keep using. No? Trash
3) Attempt to not get hit at all in fights: 1 hit 1 death. Just makes you get better. ESPECIALLY when using runics.
4) Hint 4 bonus: For bosses, pretend you're on GMGOW: they lead. You punish their openings. Spam 2 runics at start sure, nd a quick 3rd. More n you're dead.
Seriously overall just valhalla as follows if you found the difficulty FINE or easy:
Story: Lowest: valhalla:+10%
Story: balance: +20%
No mercy - +30%
Gmgow: +40%
You will lose
Each run learn about the moves they're encouraging:)
Now i love gow on gmgow --- dmc redo not ruined next!
lundas chest + dragons waist/bracers > full lunda. lundas needs to wait for poison state, dragon is on all shield. let's say each hit is 10, and since shield is 3/4 attacks, it's 56 lunda v 55 dragon, but dragon doesn't wait for poison state. not sure what the str increase does for dmg, but it may even be stronger even with the 3/4 hits per combo
I've found it plays faster and stronger, anyway, killer video!! your defensive build was the only way I could get past some of the trials
I found the tanky build the easiest to use for my play style. Not sure where I found it but steinbjorn as you mentioned, surtr arms and waist, rond of restoration, agree with amulet slots. I third attempted gna with this build and finally beat BK after struggling for hours with the berserker build.
Awesome. So glad to see this video 🎉❤
Thanks Sharon! Hope you find it helpful 👍
Thanks a lot for the amazing clear guide bro!! Great video✌
Thanks! Glad you liked it 😁
"Nocked Proficiency" (Every 3rd arrow fires an additional arrow, then 2, then 3 while upgrading) and "Runic Potency" (while Summon is on cooldown *Massively increase the status of Runic arrows) Might net better Stun/ Stun damage than "Reckless Empowerment" & "Sonic Attunement" imo for Fae's Stun set up *Especially w/ the Stunning Fang Enchantment amazing for crowds, but also has a Damage stacker... the DPS you can output in the short amount of time it takes to regen 1 arrow isn't worth it imo. However shooting 3 extra arrows per 3rd arrow has INSANE capabilities... particularly if you upgrade to Fae's 4th arrow, You'll never run out of stunning an enemy when you choose.
This video helped me out so much, THANK YOU!! I was stuck on the the king.
Gonna try the berserker dragon combo today
For the king since I parry so much in that fight
Hope it works well for you! Good luck!
I DIDNT KNOW I HAVE TO HOLD IN THE BUTTON FOR RUINICS 😂😂😂
Glad you found that tip helpful!
Yeah guys Always hold the button or do whatever the Runic Attack's level 3 infos say to do the most extended and powerful version of the runic attack
Definitely should have explained this better in game a long with many other things in my God honest opinion lol
@@robertdenicola6409 ir's pretty clear if you can read lol
@@louiskusters9452 lol so funny 😂
The Realm Shift & Luck based builds gotta be cheat codes. Sheesh
BRO THANK YOU I NEEDED THIS VIDEO
Haha thanks! Glad you found it helpful 😄
Dragon build with the Valor gem that boosts dmg is insane against bosses.
Parry 3 attack, pop valor, shield bash and go to town.
I love the berserker cuirass along with vidar's bracers and waste guard. 😁
My favorite is the starter set at max level. You get all stats
Realm shift, bonus damage during realm shift and longer duration
What Build would you suggest for early Muspelheim trials on higher difficulty levels?
Good question. I used the Dragon build for that and it worked well. If you already have Berserker gear though you could use one of the builds based on that.
@@ArktixOfficial Don´t think i would have that...2nd seed comes after pointy stick i think.
Oh yes. I guess it depends at what point you're trying to do Muspelheim trials...
@@ArktixOfficial There was a reason i use the word "early" ;-)
😁
I am really having fun with the dragon chest piece and the bottom two pieces from the undying pyres set
thank you for healing/tank build Gná was pain in the ass 😅
Best tip video so far
Thanks!
Im still stuck on gna, what are the best tips for beating her? Liked video , verry much and adjust my builds and keep trying.
“Knocked proficiency”: Every 3rd runic arrow fires an additional 3 arrows. Found in the Asgard prison.
Thank you for this video. I needed this “Ragnarok Builds for Dummies” version to understand.
Haha glad you found it helpful!
oh man this video is fantastic dude thank you so much for doing it, I did skip to the builds that I think were interesting but nonetheless thank you so much
You're very welcome! And no worries, it's pretty long video 🙂
This was a great video.
Thank you! Hope you found it helpful 👍
its the best video for build i hv ever seen
thnks bro
Great video!
Thanks!
Cool! Yeah I’d love to hear about it. The discord link is broken? Give it a try now: discord.gg/arktix
Any chance of having like a "only spear/blades/axe" build? PS: love to use the Lunda build but changing with the Dragon bracers and waist
Dope been trying to figure out the builds good work tho
Thanks! Hope you found this helpful!
The depth of variation for play styles makes this game replayable. Im on my 3rd run and still have fun changing builds
Super helpful video
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the help great video
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful!
Great Video, although i still dont like the GOW Combat...
Thanks Arteku! I also enjoy Horizon combat more 😉
This is so helpful... Thank u
Glad you found it helpful!
Finally defeated gna with this omg
6:58 Well you don't have to worry about the timing you also get a little vibration on your controller everytime just after you strike with the shield😏
So overall which is the most balanced? Plus enchantments
I have completed 58% of the main missions of the game. Can I make the Berserker - Vidar set in the meantime?
Thanks a million 🥰 for your useful tutorials 🙏❤
As I understand it, the best and most fun set we have to make
berserker-vidar or berserker-dragon
what sword & bow do you suggest for fraye & atreus respectively & also which bow ability for atreus ?
haha its me again, great video!
What would be your recommended build to start ng+ with? I’m trying to prepare myself for the tougher enemies but idk what to run
I’d personally go with the berserker-dragon hybrid I showed.
That’s what I ended up going with. Was thinking about trying the lucky build but that berserker-dragon hybrid seems the most balanced
I have done the whole story( first playthrough what armor should I use too beat her berserkers?
Do the flame whip/awakened axe moves count as combo finishers for vidars?
I’m at the end of the game (story over, funeral done, trials beaten, gna defeated) and I’m just at the King battle now. I am wanting to upgrade the Ninth Realm outfit but I am low on Forged Iron (only have 2 left because I sold some earlier in the game). I’m not even sure where I could find some Forged Iron if I’ve literally 100% completed everything from everywhere (unless I missed a red glowing chest or something somewhere).
Does anyone know how I can get some of those smaller materials? I was hoping to get some during the trials but I never was awarded any of that item.
If you have enough hacksilver you could buy some
How do you get the handles you have for the axe and blades? Also would it be good too use berserker chest piece with the steinjborn armor
Good build.
What about a fully rounded build with the survival armor.
10:38 is perfect for me
I got beserker chest and vidar arms and waist. The enchantments are asgards and vanaheium. Surprising the build I thought was orginal was a meta build. Im just gonna make a luck build noe
how to get the vida armour?
Tell me about the luck build when ur done i assume spear is gonna do most of the dmg right
@ S G i think my build will use tyr/beserker combo along with vanaheium set. I'll use spear more cause of luck, but I'll switch whenever a weapon gets blessed
my name is mel I'm playing on a Ps4 and I don't have half the things you do but thank you any way I hope I can live on what I got today
Which build is the best to kill the berserkers king ? Right now I just can’t kill him and I want my 100% completion
tank build is op
i played none of that and i managed 2 complet the game on gmgw difficult
but i tested a simular luck(you can make yu invinseble in this set that u get way less damage whyle ruin attaks and you can use the pisen abilitie aswell in NEW GAME+) set i played alot of part f the poisen(build)
but what works the best for me was an biuld out of defense stun and elemental damage boost and gainspeed of elemental damage
I have a question why we need to do sheild strike btween flame whiplash its already an attack so why not just let the animation finish then press triangle to charge the blades??? Also what u think of dying pyers armour at least arms and belt with some other chest plates??
