Do you know why my MMI system "forgets" my MMI login details whenever CarPlay is activated? With the phone unplugged all my details are remembered, including favourite destinations. Once the phone is plugged in, it asks me to log in again. Highly frustrating.
Hello, thank you for your instruction. It would be nice if you could also explain setting of bluetooth internet Connection from my iPhone. Im having from Audi basic internet for 3 years, but this is only for the system. I would like try the satelite maps (Google earth) and it make no sense to buy the Internet on the SIM card if I have internet in my iPhone. Thank you very much.

I find the radio keeps getting paused in car play mode and looks to play something from Spotify, even after turning on the radio, it plays for a while and then goes into searching from something through car play.

I just got a new Q5 2021 S-Line today and I've been trying to connect my 12 Pro Max Carplay wirelessly (it connects via cable fine) but MMI says only via cable connection although there was a prompt on my phone to connect wirelessly and the icon of my phone says CarPlay on MMI but it's greyed out. When i test drove the Q5 (Luxury) i was able to connect CarPlay wirelessly with no issues. The dealer said some models came with no Wireless Carplay but this doesn't seem to be the case because the user manual says i should be able to connect wirelessly. Any thoughts on this?

Lukas Stein I am not an expert with android auto but from my knowledge it has even more usability than carplay. Hopefully I can obtain an android phone to start doing reviews as well.

Great video! If I am connected wirelessly in Apple CarPlay and I received a phone call, do I have to determine whether to answer in CarPlay or MMI? Or, can I just answer the call?
If connected to CarPlay either hardwired or wireless the phone call will always go through CarPlay!

Carplay navigation (Apple, google, Waze) unfortunately will not come through to the virtual cockpit and only comes up on the center touch screen. Maybe one day they will allow it to show up in the virtual cockpit!
Car Tech Connect That is a shame. Apple introduced it in iOS10 three years ago and almost no manufacturer has implemented it apart from the very latest Renault Clio where you do get the simple turn arrows like normal satnav

Mini Eggs what Mercedes is doing in their MBUX as far as CarPlay is concerned is a real shame. No wireless, no full-screen. Just lousy!

jacksonbury yes you can listen to any band of radio while CarPlay is active as long as there is no media playing from the CarPlay system itself (Apple Music, Spotify, etc)...
I have a 2018 rs3. Does wireless android auto and carplay work for 2018?
The current gen A3/s3/rs3 does not have built in wireless Carplay. You have to plug into the USB ports. You can try purchasing a wireless adapter but they can be alittle glitchy and unreliable from what I’ve been told.
Can we watch RUclips as well?
Show us how to connect Android wirelessly please. The system seems to be developed for iPhone

Is it possible to have google maps displayed on the screen behind ( virtual cockpit ) the steering wheel ?
pieczarrr unfortunately nothing related to carplay can be displayed on the virtual cockpit. Only the built in Audi navigation can be displayed there

@@lastminuteonearth You can at least on VW Tiguan with same screen setup. Its funny when google maps app from phone tells you turn right and car`s nav ( also using google maps ) tells you to turn left at the same intersection. Anyways its just a fault of algoythm , same maps diferent algorythms - phone app is just the best . I checked it comparing those two in this VW Tiguan, always followed google maps from phone and 90% times it had better routes, faster and also nice shorcuts that average Joe wouldnt know about drving in not their citys.

One step you forgot- right after you connect your car and phone to BT, click the BT “info” button for the Audi and “show notifications” in order to get texts and Siri-enabled read/responses. (6:27 see the button).

Mark M the 2019 TT will have Apple carplay but it will not be wireless. You will need to have the phone plugged in to use it 👍

your videos handy. i have a brand new rs7 but previous car was f90 m5, which was much better as you could use either the bmws built in phone connection to make calls or the apple car play without having to press buttons to disconnect from one to the other. Plus car was faster..dam why did i buy an audi lol

I'm still confused. If using carplay & I receive a phone call, can I answer it using the steering wheel buttons? I actually have a 2022 A4 Allroad.
Edit: Don't have the 2022 Allroad yet, delivery should be this week, if the holiday doesn't mess it up!
Can you make CarPlay go full screen, overtaking the MMI nav? It seems odd to have so many layers of navigation. I was hoping the Audi CarPlay app would take you out of a full screen experience like on previous models.

2019 Audi S3?
Thanks for watching. The 2019 Audi S3 in America will have Apple carplay but it is not wireless. You will have to have it plugged in to use it.
I just got a 2020 s5 Prestige, I follow the steps and no matter what I try still get the “connect via USB” message when clicking Apple CarPlay.
Is there any other way to just play Spotify or Amazon prime via Mmi and no cords?
Jared Akers congrats on the purchase. Did you try pairing your phone with Bluetooth first and then the system asks if you want to activate wireless Carplay? There is also a chance the 2020 B9 cars (A4,A5,S4,S5,) might not have wireless Carplay even tho they have the new touch screen, I have yet to confirm this. That being said yes you can use Bluetooth Audio which is in the media modes to stream any audio source wirelessly from your device.
@@CarTechConnect Yes, I did try that. They set it up at the dealership, but as typical, I was so excited I forgot to ask about Apple CarePlay via wireless. I do have an Apple Music account, and so can access those playlists and music via Bluetooth, which is really all I wanted.
Jared Akers might be possible to enable Wireless CarPlay using VCDS, OBD11 or VCP.

I don't think they have updated the a3 yet. If it still has the rotary selector instead of the touch screen I don't think it has it. A4 just got it this year with the refresh that dropped the rotary for the touch screen
When I start my car the my iPhone Bluetooth is connected to my Audi but I can not hear any music from radio. Every time . I have to disconnect Bluetooth
On my Audi Q3 (2023) with MMI (3801 version) it doesn't connect wirelessly.

Since Audi Connect expired, CarPlay won’t connect. That’s not what I was told when I purchased the vehicle. Thinking about suing for a reduction in the price.

Mini Eggs Unfortunately it will not. If a route guidance is active in the apple CarPlay system (Apple maps, google maps. Waze) the navigation mode in the virtual cockpit is disabled and turns into a digital compass until the route is either finished or canceled.
Car Tech Connect Thanks for detailed reply. Hopefully it will soon. The only OEM I have seen this in so far is the very latest Renault Clio. Hopefully the others will impliment soon as it is MUCH less distracting to look down rather than across and Apple added the feature about two years ago

safar Sultan I am reading that the wireless CarPlay is not available in all countries, are you in America? I don’t know the list of all supporting countries but in America it should definitely work. You need to make sure both your WiFi and Bluetooth are on and active on your iPhone. Try deleting the phone from the car and deleting the car from the phone and redoing the setup with both WiFi and Bluetooth on. If it doesn’t work again go to your Bluetooth menu on your iPhone and click on the Audi and see if there is a carplay setting to be selected. Hope this helps!
No wireless carplay on my new 2019 A8 in the UK. Not happy and making a stink with Audi about it. They announced all A8s from May 2018 would have it.
During wireless CarPlay my phone doesn’t use mobile data but rather wifi connection but no internet. Any advice?
If you are not paying for Audi connect the in car wifi will not have any internet access. Please find that network in your phone wifi settings and either deselect auto join or click forget network! Hope this helps!

How do you delete phones that have* been paired to the car on apple car play? Bought a 2020 loaner and it is filled with other "users"
You have to swipe down from the top of the screen. Click on the connection manager and then press down and hold on the square tiles that represent each phone. There will be an option to delete the device.

The 2017 Audi A4 will need the USB wire to work with Carplay.

William Liu it’s very very very good but by removing the mmi knob they used to use they made it a lot harder to use while actually driving. Therefore I believe BMW currently has the best infotainment due to having both a touchscreen and a knob!

I have the Audi A6 2019 in the UK and wireless car play is not available! You have to connect via USB. Not happy. Phoned customer support and they told me that they'd had "issues" with it.
I've tried all possible ways and its a shame that we can't connect ApplePlay wirelessly for A6 2019 (S Line Tech Pack) model.

I just assumed that an advanced Audi with tech pack would have it! Audi need to get their act together. Very disappointed.

Robert De Ieso you had it on the 7? As far as I’m aware, our 7 was from just before it became an option so I can’t confirm but the Audi A6 does not have wireless Apple car play now any modern VW’s. I believe it firstly requires the vehicle to have its own internet connection, so as the A6 does as standard with its in built sim but there is something stopping it from being enabled in the UK. I was under the impression it’s not been approved for use yet. Very unlikely that VW group would not allow this bearing in mind CarPlay is standard on even a VW golf, I did expect the A6 to have it though. Not much of an issue for me as I always charge my phone and use CarPlay, wireless charging is slow as hell and creates unnecessary heat, can’t be too good for the batteries. It would be a popular feather though for others, I’m sure. What year was the 7 series by the way? I assume those form 2017 onwards were getting the option or maybe even later. Pretty ridiculous though that they charged for it given it should be a no cost option, then again they make you pay for ACC and autonomous Emergency braking, all standard on a VW Golf. Audi’s quality on the new A6 though is appalling, I will 100% say that the Audi A3 has better build quality.

John Edmond good thing most 2019 audi models have a wireless charging pad in the center console now to keep your phone fully charged while using it 👍👍
@@CarTechConnect I think he meant that the battery would drain faster than it would charge, which might be true. Wireless charging is pretty slow, although convenient.
Kevin Kim that is a great point. Something I would be very interested in testing to see if the wireless charging can cope with the wireless CarPlay energy load!
I know when I use CarPlay over a USB and use Nav, my iPhone 7 gets pretty warm. Which suggests a fairly high CPU load.

Audi's wireless CarPlay is too frustrating to use. And I really hate it. For example, there is no way to switch between two iPhones. How stupid is that?

MMI? Wow, when are Lefties going to boycott Audi for using that term? I don't think I've called a User Interface (UI) a "MMI" since the 1990's. And not because I am woke, i'm not, it is just such an old term to use. The term MMI is probably from the 1960's. Besides, the average person does not call things "machine" anymore. I'd say "device" is more timely. But UI is more appropriate and the implication is it is a device that has the User Interface. What sounds more current... "International Business Machines" or "IBM"? Heck, the prior sounds like they are selling devices competing with Smith Corona word processing units. Then add the gender specificness of it and you really have a term that is so out-of-date. And no, I did not dislike this. Just stating facts.
But if someone were to dislike (I noticed someone below stated that people who dislike this video must be jelly (jealous), I could give you a few reasons why they would hit dislike. First, you mentioned wireless charging and glass backs. The implication is that only glass back phones wirelessly charge and that isn't true but probably just a one shot video thing that wasn't planned, I get it. Second, you could have been more informative as to here's how you do the "one time" connections/setup and then get into the car again and show what the experience is after initial setup as some people, there are many, who don't understand technology, will think you have to manually connect every time. I know you did state, "once you enable your phone with Bluetooth" but that doesn't sound anything like, "once you setup up the initial Bluetooth connection between your phone and the vehicle's head unit" so a little confusing. Also, you stated "obsolete" as opposed to "unnecessary", again, confusing. I get it but i'm sure some people out there are confused.
Third, I don't think you made it clear why you would want to use the car "MMI" once you have carplay set up. I mean, carplay has the Apple message app and phone app available within it. Why or when is the vehicle "MMI" needed over what is available in carplay? I honestly don't know so that's why i am asking.
I thought it was a good video overall. Just pointing out some things I observed. It is not easy making videos by yourself with a phone camera especially with one shot and no editing. I get it.
S B Thank you for the feedback I will definitely keep these things in mind for future videos. As for the “MMI” that is an abbreviation for multi media interface and is an Audi trademark. Audi has been calling their UI this since 2001 and still does till this day labeling this newest UI as “MMI Touch Response System” here is their current website.

@@CarTechConnect Well, the initials match Man Machine Interface which pre-dates it Audi's thing. www.businessdictionary.com/definition/man-machine-interface.html and happens to be the exact same thing as their "product", i.e. an interface between humans and "machine" so, I guess we'll allow them to use it. ;) Only Americans have to watch everything they say or do. Not the Germans, Japanese, Koreans or Chinese, we have never considered, ever, boycotting their products because of the things they do/did. Just not how it works. I mean Toyota had a dealership in California in 1957 (and didn't immediately go out of business though a decade earlier it was supposed to live in infamy.) With what China gets away with we shouldn't allow a single one of their products to come over here, IMO. This is why I am an independent. A republican prez opened up American to China (to buy a punch of non-fixable, throw-away, more in our landfill, products.) Both sides have helped to deteriorate America's strengths.
