my wife ond i signed up for physicals at the Bangkok Hospital in Phuket in 2009. we paid $450 each for an 8 hour physical that you get each year for 3 years. the results for all the testing are presented to you at the end of the day. on our second year my wife was diagnosed with early stage lung cancer. we came back to the states for procedures due to insurance coverage. my wife has been cancer free now for 14 years.
So happy to hear she's doing well now. Those health checkups are so great and I feel will catch something that may not have been caught back home until many symptoms were in place.
I broke a tooth a few months ago in Lisbon and had to have it surgically removed at an emergency same day appointment. It was soooo worth it! $300 out the door at Advanced International Dentistry with no insurance. It was the best dental experience I have ever had. I am going to go back for permanent implants.
FYI: we are in Lagos, Portugal. We carry a letter from our US doctor with all our medications and dosages. They accepted that as the prescription with no questions asked. These were non-opioid prescriptions but were things like blood pressure meds, heart meds, and anti-depressants. 30 day supply, filled on the spot with no questions asked. We had a similar experience in Paris France. Cost was about 10% of that in the USA.
Of all the traveling RUclipsrs you guys are the first I’ve seen to cover medical tourism. Your experiences and information is literally valuable. Thanks for the video and keep bringing us videos! Eric and Siggi
In my home town of Chicago, many of the dental assistants are from Poland or other Eastern European countries. When I visited Poland, there were entire magazines and TV programs devoted to dental care with ads for local offices. They have state-of-the-art equipment, fully-staffed offices, English-speaking teams and reasonable out-of-pocket rates. That's where I'd have my dental work done!
Dental: My German dentist had used temporary cement, but solid fit more than 15 years before for all my upper jaw crowns. I live in Hawaii. One day, all my upper crowns fell out. Wanted to have them replaced in the US. They had no idea what they were doing, quoted me $ 30,000, and three months to get it done. Sure, 3 month with temporary, forget it! Friends had told me about a top notch dental clinic in Hungary, in some small town with 170 dental clinics. I contacted them over the phone, they gave me a price for three different scenarios, all completely professional. Three days later I was on the plane, used my miles, flew to Vienna. Was picked up at the airport. Stayed in the hotel on the second floor above the clinic. Half hour after my arrival a 3D x-ray was done. Long story short, female dentist, very sensitive, pain free procedure, crowns for all upper teeth were done in 4 days, and because the bill was just above $ 3,000, they threw in the hotel for free. That was 9 years ago. No problem since then. If I ever need implants, that's where I am going.
My wife and I had root canal and crowns on our recent trip to Playa Del Carmen. Cost was perhaps 1/3 of what we pay in Canada and I thought the dentist and facilities are better than our current family dentist. Probably the biggest 'risk' was that you could develop a serious infection and maybe require hospitalization in a foreign country. For us however, it was a great experience.
A big *YES* to DENTAL TOURISM . Get a passport and be willing to travel. You do not have to go far. I went to Los Algodones Mexico for full mouth restoration (Implants and permanent dentures). Cost in the USA $60K. In Mexico, $14K. It's literally a 5 minute walk from the border parking lot in Andrade California to the center of a small town with 350 dentists. Also pharmacies and optometrists. Do your own research, that is what I did. For the first time in my life (I'm just shy of 66) I have a great smile and the ability to eat without worry about my teeth. I selected SANI Dental Group. Your mileage may vary, so again DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.
Currently I am in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I just had dental work done last week, so this video is very timely. Needed to replace a crown that actually broke in the US and got a filling as well. This was done at Pristine Dental at Mid Valley Megamall in KL in case anyone wants to use the same. The new crown only cost $445 and the filling cost $38. I have a similar filling on another tooth done in the US. In comparison, the new filling was done so much better than the one done in the US. This was all done in less than a week. I'm very happy with the results. You are so right about how expensive vitamins are. I like to take D3. Can't remember how much it was now, but couldn't believe the price for only a month's supply. This was at a pharmacy. I do miss Costco for this. Prescriptions. I take one for thyroid. Again, while at Watson's pharmacy, located throughout KL, I asked about it. They didn't have the strength I needed, but could combine two separate doses to match my own. I didn't even have my prescription and the pharmacist was willing to sell me what I needed without it. If I remember correctly, I think the cost was around $17 for a three month supply. You reminded me that I need to get another Hep A and B shot. Unlike Walgreens in the US, I couldn't do this at the pharmacy so will need to schedule it at the hospital or clinic here. This is the extent of my medical tourism so far. Easy peasy, and if some who read this think this is still true, the US is not king when it comes to this. Thanks for sharing your video!
I'm currently in Ho Chi Minh City. My friend and her husband from U.S.A. have lived here +7 years so I got 2 outstanding referrals from them. I did a full Dental checkup with x-rays and cleaning $63.36 at WestCoast International Dental Clinic HCMC. Next, I had a full proper Premium Health Check Programme $232.96 at Raffles Medical in HCMC. Both of these facilities are incredible. I highly recommend these two Health Care Groups in Vietnam.
Another great video. Very informative. My son was telling me that the other popular medical tourism in Turkey is hair replacement! So the planes into Turkey filled with balding men, and leave with full heads of hair. At the 6:56 mark, Brian "I am sitting in my own waiting room..." but check out that posture!!! LMAO. More like "lounging"!! we all look forward to pics of Carrie's new crown!! Keep up the good work. Cheers!
I just had a health screening in Kuala Lumpur. The best $300 USD I have ever spent. It brought to light several health issues I was completely unaware of despite having regular physicals in the USA. I have been to dentists in several countries and feel they are not as well trained and professional as our USA dentists but dentistry abroud is certainly cheaper. Thanks for all your travel content!
There are certain countries known for dentistry. Hungry, Croatia, Turkey, and Mexico come to mind. We didn't experience dental in SE Asia so good to know. Thank you for watching and hoping for good health!! ❤
My dad got really sick 😷 n Thailand. Te hospital he walked into had a massive foyer and someone playing a grand piano. Im Canadian- we have excellent health coverage- but the rest of the world is amazing! Brian- beers great! Expand to red wine!
The eyeglass industry is basically a monopoly, with one company owning the vast majority of brands. That's why the price is the same pretty much worldwide,
I am so grateful for this video and all your research. I am scheduled for two crowns soon but now, I can see a trip to Turkey or Mexico in the near future! Thank you!!!!
Retired expst living jn Thailand. I saw a blog from a US expat who visited Danang, Vietnam. He needed dental work. In the U S was $4,000. Had it done in Danang. Was $300. He said the office was better, the staff moren professional. And they followed up several times with him.
I got lucky. My wife's best friend from growing up is a doctor and so is her husband. I'm getting the stem cell procedure in August at the best hospital in Bucharest for about $1K. I'll be getting an implant and bridge then too for a missing tooth and replacing some silver filled teeth ($1K). I know my experience isn't the norm but, hey, I'll take it! 😊 (Edit: need to add that my mother-in-law"s family doctor came to the house at 9pm last time we were in Romania because the airline lost our luggage which had our prescriptions. After the at home Dr visit, we cracked open a few beers and chatted about medicine. I used to run medical clinics in the early 2000's.)
I get all my dental work done in Mexico have done it for years...5 Implants $900.00 a tooth, cleaning $30.00... bone graft, sinus lift 450.00. The hardest part for me was the bone graft/ sinus lift...Americans are pretty ignorant when it comes to the world, they have been spoon fed propaganda that world class medical/ dental work can only be done in the U.S.
Hello! Do you mind sharing where in Mexico you’ve had your dental work done? I need multiple crowns for which the cost is prohibitive for me. Thank you!
We were living in Germany during the pandemic, my friends (here in US) had no clue the extremly strict enforcement Europe had. No shot, no life. Also appreciate all the info. My niece went to Costa Rico for all her dental work.
Glad I stumbled upon this page today. Had a consultation with an oral surgeon a few days ago. ONE implant (with dental insurance) at 1450.00. Without insurance, $3400.00. I don’t know what my dentist will charge for the crown as I have to see him in a few weeks for ghat. I’m better off leaving the U.S. as dental work will bankrupt you if you’re not wealthy! 10/27/24 @ 2:34P.
We are glad that you stumbled upon our channel also!! 😊 It is crazy how much medical care is in the US. Prescription drugs are far less expensive around the world as well. Mexico has great dental care also. Thank you for watching and good luck!! 😁
I know many Aussies who went to Thailand for dental and cosmetic work. None of them had any issues. A friend had implants and crowns done in Australia over 10 years ago and it cost her close to 60K AUD. Another friend had similar work done (the lot) and it cost her 29K including flights (twice), pick up from the airport and hotel with breakfast. Some people go to India for dental work and eye surgery. I know of two cases that didn't go well. Unfortunately, an Indian lady whose nephew I know, went for cheaper dental work, got infection and passed away. It was a huge shock to the family. A friend's son went to do eye surgery in India and to have pterygium removed. He couldn't see well and was constantly in pain. He had to have the same surgery in Australia and paid the full cost. One eye at a time. He is OK now.
For glasses: In Japan there are a lot of 1 hour glass places (I go to alook when in JP). They do a quick exam for your prescription, pick the frames, and lens options and it’s ~$100 all in for most regular frames. Walk around after the exam and come pick them up after an hour. I think in PT it was about ~$350 and US of course if you need a prescription it’s going to be more. Recently in Malaysia, just walked into a pharmacy and picked up 3 mos. Of meds with no prescription.
If you need glasses, it would be hard to beat Zenni. I buy single vision glasses and frames for $7 plus $5 shipping. I am a repeat customer also filling more complex prescriptions. I've been happy every time.
@@BrianandCarrie BTW, my wife and I just moved to Bham and are loving the outdoor activities. Watching your videos is helping us on how to approach our planned international travel. Thank you! Maybe we could meet and share a beer. I have contact info on my RUclips account.
I live in Innsbruck, Austria. Dental work through a private dentist can run between 1000-1500 Euro per crown. However, I have a residence visa and have access to government dental. All I pay for a crown is a couple hundred Euro. As for prescriptions most are covered by the state health insurance. If something is not covered I pay 6.50 Euro.
Another great video packed with useful information. You two are really excelling at this! Thanks for all you do to keep us informed and entertained. Happy travels!
We have Amex Platinum and have the following travel insurance and these are the benefits: Baggage delay: Up to $1,000 to purchase essentials if your baggage is delayed after four hours Lost luggage: Up tola $1,200 reimbursement for your items if your luggage can't be recovered. Would Safety Wing be a good add-on or would it be redundant
Woow finally someone really explain clear about the Medical plans. Now I only have to find the information from your web because with so many scams is kind of scary.
I have had my teeth done in Medellin Colombia, Hungary, Chiang Mai (my dentists there studied in California)and even in Moldova all were amazing per the cost. I now have my annual exams done in the best South east Asia hospital Prince Court Medical Center in KL Malaysia for 300 dollars for 6 hour exam with what Brian may like a free lunch voucher. At the end a doctor talks to you for a half hour with your manuscript filled results which shows all your X-rays
All that would not only cost you thousands in the US, but you wouldn't get the attention you got from the doctor. We had full medical checkups in Thailand with the same experience you received.
Another great video- thanks! I happened to check contact lens prices while in Bangkok: 3 boxes of six lenses (monthlies) was $16 USD. Better than what I’m paying in California (with insurance).
I chose to be a patient of the University of Michigan for dental care because it is excellent and close to home. I have usually gotten a practicing dentist who is seeking an international certification, so they are an international mix of world nationalities. I was excited to learn from an International Iraian student who had been a dentist for over seven years, that he was taught his dental curriculum with U of M textbooks and trained teachers! I have learned so much about international dentistry practices. Thank you for sharing your experiences on Medical and Dental care on the road!
It was definitely worth it for me to do my dental work in Costa Rica. I saved $10K and still had a lot of fun including all my expenses. I would do it all over again. I plan on doing blood works and other stuff overseas where it’s cheaper
Thank you! I love watching your videos. My husband and I are learning so much and you make it fun. We are about to start traveling full-time in September. I don’t think I would’ve had the confidence to attempt full-time travel without watching your videos first. If all goes well after the first year, we are selling everything and making it a permanent lifestyle for as long as we can/want. You two are fantastic inspirations. Thanks again. P.S. We’re from Washington State too. So expensive here.
Thank you so much for the support! Honestly, if we can do this so can you!! Maybe someday we will be in the same place at the same time! Thank you again and safe travels!!!❤
If you need more medications (prescriptions) for a trip out of the country (US) you can call your insurance company. Mine (Aetna) has a direct number for the prescription department. Tell them you're traveling out of the country and ask for a "vacation exemption" or "vacation override" (Medicare term). They have set guidelines they can approve on the spot. If you need more, I think they can put in a request to their mgmt. for approval. Be sure to check the regulations of the countries you are traveling to.
Very informative video! I used to spend 2-3 months in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I would get my dental work, annual physical, other medical care as needed, plus my prescriptions there at extremely low cost and excellent quality. Unfortunately, I've now decided not to go back during the winter months due to poor air quality between December through April. Thanks for the recommendations for Turkey and Mexico.
@@BrianandCarrie If you do some research, air quality as measured pm 2.5 is over 10x the WHO standards in January in Chiang Mai. It gets even worse in February through March. You may not always see it but the small particles enter your respiratory tract and do serious damage. Many expats leave Chiang Mai for the beach towns in southern Thailand and New Zealand for better air quality.
Great video, very useful information for me and my partner as we have medical issues and we travel with our medication 💊 all the time and I use a CPAP for sleep apnea, you give me a good idea to look into medical checkups when we travel abroad. Thanks for sharing this video. 🌺🌺🌺
As I'm currently researching dental tourism, your video is so helpful and motivating! I need two implants, and while I'd love to have the procedure in Turkey since I've never been, it might make more sense to consider Cancun since I live in NYC. Carrie, would you be willing to share the name of your backup clinic in Cancun? I've been reading Google reviews and doing my research, but it's still so nerve-wracking to make a decision. Love your content!
very interesting, thank you. In britain we hear the occasional horror story about surgery in Turkiye, but it's usually cosmetic surgery that makes the news when it goes wrong. It's something I'd consider for dental - and a holiday at the same time - and even after all that the cost is the same or lower than at home
Pete was able to get blood pressure medication, cholesterol medication in every country we were in. We tried it everywhere, 22 countries. We did bring his bottles with us when getting them refilled. It was shocking to us that it was that easy
I bought bifocal glasses in Seoul (Korea) - I brought my home prescription - and it was a fraction (about 1/4) of the cost in the US - including costco glasses. The glasses (including lenses) are made of plastic - a different technology - much cheaper but as good quality - the only thing is that you have to be careful in leaving them in the heat as they can get distorted &/or melt.
Thanks for breaking this all down in such a way that clarifies things nicely. Have you thought about self insuring? Based off your health exams in Thailand and the overall low cost around the world. 🤔 Could it make sense to invest your insurance payments in ETFs (dividends)or Vanguard indexes? Ie last 3 or 4 years how much have you paid out vrs used in health insurance premiums, deductibles, etc? Thanks as always for sharing your journey and experiences. 😊
Although we are healthy at this point, that could change in a moment. We feel much more comfortable being insured for all those unexpected issues. Thanks so much for watching!
@@BrianandCarrie I totally understand. I thought the same. I think 99% of us as Americans are so programmed that we need insurance. It wasn't until I lived in Mexico that I started to apply the pay yourself first and build an account.
If you are a surgical candidate consider lasix; it’s expensive but worth the splurge! Not a day goes by where I regret it, was worth twice what it cost me
Vaccines for safe travel are a lot more than 2x what you quoted! I got Hep A & B, typhoid, cholera, Japanese encephalitis, updated my MMR, polio, shingles, and DTP. Some were offered through my regular doctor, some I had to get at a travel clinic. $1,850 was my bill (with great insurance). Word to the wise...maybe wait until you get to your destination if that feels safe.
Do you know of other places in the world that offers similar testing like Thailand? Desperately want it but was hoping to find something closer to Canada with not so big a time change lol.
Thanks for your videos! I will soon be living part time in France and am considering a trip to Turkey for a full body check up. Wondering if you’ve considered or done? Any thoughts? Bon Voyage!
Great video for those who have not had the pleasure, yes PLEASURE 😆of getting private healthcare outside the US. Mexico totally spoiled me. The quality, accessibility, and affordability. No waiting weeks for an appointment or sitting for hours in the office waiting for the doctor, able to Whatsapp my doctors, they take their time with you, etc, etc. Specialists visits $40-$50 USD, Mammo/Ultrasound ~$100 USD. Echocardiogram done by dr with visit ~ $200 USD. There is no going back to US healthcare for me. This year I'll be in Poland when all my annual preventative care is due so I am curious how it will go with their private healthcare system. I know it's still going to be very affordable and accessible as compared to the US. I also need new (stronger!) progressive lenses 😭 I can confirm that my progressive lenses in Mexico were about the same cost as US. I just successfully ordered from iHerb and received in France. Took about 12 days.
We honestly can't see any reason to get care in the US anytime soon. When I pay for something out of pocket and it's a fraction of the cost we pay in the US with insurance, it makes you wonder. As always, Stacie, thank you for watching and commenting!! 😀
Very interesting. People should keep in mind that some travel vaccines take, I think, weeks some times to take effect (and some Malaria medicine I took many years ago for a trip was like that in pill form) if they are considering waiting until thy arrive in a place with an actual outbreak. But the care itself sounds pretty solid most places if you do the due diligence that you guys do.
Thank you for this video!! We’ve been waiting for this info and so glad you did it. Very helpful with wonderful commentary and footage. Glad you’re both healthy too :)
Thanks for a great video, it puts our US Healthcare to shame. We are having a shoulder injection done in a month and it was so strange but we got a pile of papers to take to the pharmacy. When we did, it was ALL the meds for the procedure that we pay for and bring the day of the injection!!?? 5 boxes of different things and we were thinking oh boy this is going to be expensive, alas it was $16!!! We almost fell over! And our prescriptions have all been less than $5 a month! We also did not get why there are sooooo many eyeglass shops everywhere here in france!!! Thought it would be less expensive since so many, but wrong it is actually more expensive. Darn, such cute looking frames too! MRI of shoulder was $220 also!! At home they start at $1200 with our expensive insurance too! Anyway just thought I would put our two cents worth in.
That is so great to hear about France as well. It was surprising to us about the eye care and supplies, we expected lower costs. At least we now know it's typically best to do those things when home. Cheers!!
Thank you so much for all of this good info from your experiences! Checking into getting my dental work done in Cancun now! I'm a new subscriber to your channel now!
Hi Brian, carrie Have been watching your videos for a year or so like them a lot always interesting and informative. I also like the new format being in a room just talking about past travels and experiences em parting all the knowledge you’ve gained. But why have you seemingly stopped travelling or are you just taking a well earned break.
So happy you're enjoying them and finding the info helpful. We just got back on the road a few weeks ago, the start was with our Dublin video. So in combination with the sit down videos, we will have a location video out on Fethiye Turkiye in a few weeks 😊
Such a great, informative video - thank you! So that I understand correctly, the dentist didn’t give you a price for your treatment before they actually examined you, correct? Or, did they give you a ballpark so that you knew roughly what to expect? I love the idea of going to Turkey for my needed crowns and a thorough medical check-up at a reasonable cost like you had in Thailand. Of course, getting to visit Turkey would be such a great added bonus! By chance, if you learn of information about general medical check-ups in Turkey similar to what you had in Thailand, it would be wonderful if you would please share that! Thank you so much for your wonderful videos!
I had the price quoted to me before I arrived. If you know exactly what you need done or can provide x-rays, they can do up a treatment plan and pricing, so you know what to expect
I am curious about the final result for the implant as I need two done and am considering folding the treatment into a couple of future EU vacation trips
We are in Canada, and while health care is free, they seem to do the bare minimum of testing. It can also take years to see a specialist. The running joke is you'll die waiting for testing. Off topic: are you guys still going to be making your touring videos?
We've heard that too many times about Canada, I think mainly due to how close we lived to the Canadian border. Sad all around that healthcare can be so much better and cheaper everywhere else. Yes, we absolutely will be. We were home for a longer stretch over the holidays, but are not back on the road. Coming soon will be more videos on Turkiye and then onto Greece ☺
I am considering going to Brazil as here in The Netherlands the place that I was referred to for "advanced treatment" wants 500 just to make some images and run a consultation to give me an estimate of what can be done and the cost. On top of already having my medical history. And they act "difficult" by imposing a 3 to 6 months wait to see them. It's like a fancy night club thing. They want to make themselves scarce to charge more. I can pay for a flight to Brazil for that price plus pay a fraction of the cost for high resolution imaging and advice on my native language and with people with a similar culture to ours (things are a bit "different" in Europe, you flew around and you know what I mean). Thanks for sharing your experience!
Sorry to hear they are making you wait so long, that is so frustrating. Sounds like a good plan to fly elsewhere to get what you need done in a more timely fashion. Best of luck - Cheers!
Yes. I found it very inspiring to see you did the same while I have been also planning to. I had my bariatric done in Brazil 11 years ago (for better quality, to be able to choose the technique etc) and I also had my eyes tested there a couple of years ago and so on. It's also a great place for cosmetic procedures. Maybe I get some dermatological treatment done while there. 😁 Thanks again for your content. ✈✈🏘🏘@@BrianandCarrie
Love your channel! I was wondering, was the implant you got in Turkey successful and are you satisfied with the implant you got? Any complications? Thank you in advance!
Mailing medication instead of taking it with your luggage is sometimes advisable. At least you don't get arrested if things go wrong. Be safe and check the rules in advance, like you say, of course, but even if you're following the rules it might be better when you need to move a large amount of meds you bought cheaper in a different country as you likely only risk losing the package. Even if you have to pay import tax and processing fees it might be the best 100 dollars spent in your life. 🙏🏻
Many meds are forbidden in a few countries, others like sleeping pills might be considered recreational drugs etc. You always need to double check what you're doing, carry prescriptions (and an English translation if necessary) with you etc. If you get a one year supply of sleeping pills and you carry them with you to certain airports, when crossing the border they may treat you as if you're trafficking drugs. If you're ok by voluntarily going through the red channel where you have to declare everything you can show you have a legitimate reason but then you have to spend more time and depending where you go there's no guarantees you won't get into very serious trouble. Always research in advance. @@LU-jo2jz
I am sure this has been asked, but how did you travel during covid with the 90 day stay? Did you just stay in the non Schengen countries? Love your channel! 😊
Did y’all get any specific vaccines in the US before traveling? Or do you get any that you need along the way? (I know you touched on COVID, but for example, Hep A or something like that.) Thanks again for the helpful video!
Since I went to Bangkok to do dental work I just cannot go back to any dentist in Australia. They are truly behind and very expensive. They cleaned my teeth for $300 AUD and she asked me to come back again as 'I have a small mouth and too many teeth.' She was literally sh**ing herself when she heard that my teeth were done in Bangkok. I could feel her hesitation. I knew I wasn't going back and left it half done. I am hoping to have them cleaned in Turkey soon. Almost there.
About medicine, you need to check what main ingredient are. Then you buy medicine made in Europe. Tylenol is the same paracetamol in Europe. You can buy 20 pills for 2 euros.
Can you make video about "how how much money is youtube paying you from ads or whats your affiliate marketing income like"? Doest it even cover your overall expenses? thanks and i keep watching you :)))))
I've been researching dentists in Turkey this last month it's a nightmare ,so many and every person I've spoke too locally here in UK have all positive outcomes but all went to different dentists ,I need some implants ,and some crowns ,do you know what type of implant was used and when do you return for final treatment ,good luck and all the best on your travels .
It is a lot of research. They gave me three options for implants. I chose the same one I've had placed before in the States. Best of luck in your search.
If you had specific concerns you could have requested specific tests for that. But, if wanting to discuss symptoms or concerns you would want to have a Dr visit.... Which you could have done as well.
Comment on sending gift items back to the states via FedEx etc? Don't want to load up carry on luggage. Found this quite useful traveling in the states using priority mail
@@BrianandCarrieBrian says he 'paid all at once. How much was that?"Not exact obviously, but a nice roundish number would be swell. Many of us don't pay for medical insurance out of pocket, it comes with work, so knowing how much a year would cost is kind of nice. Yes I realize its individual for every person and the number won't be exact. Yes I realize I could get a "free quote" not without releasing some PII that I'm trying to keep limited in exposure. This is why I'm at your channel for information, you are my 'research'. Your channel frequently has near exact and accurate prices on ALL SORTS of trivial things, this is the one thing I want to know aboutit and I'm playing comment tennis with you on it.
Hi Thank you for great info. I’m seriously thinking of moving permanently to Europe ( Italy, Portugal or Spain) Do you have any info regarding obtaining health insurance for non citizens. Any suggestions where I would start to research?
Come the time, will you get Medicare Part B? I hear a lot of expats living in Portugal saying that they plan not to take Part B due to its high cost. Plus medigap. That has surprised me as I think I’d want to be home for major care. (I’m also a resident of Portugal).
I'm really not sure what we will do that that point as we are still 12 years away on that. Plenty to research and figure out before then for sure. Cheers!!
Great question! We do monthly as well as yearly cost-of-living breakdown videos on each location we visit. You can find them all in our cost of living playlist ☺. Thanks so much for watching! Cheers
Question @BrianandCarrie : Is there a specific reason that you chose not to have your implants done in Lagos? Was it cost? I ask because we are in Lagos now and Teresa is considering an implant :-)
I didn't know I would need one then. She thought my dentist could possibly repair the post. Portugal would still be less than in the states , but they aren't rated as one of the top locations for implants.
I thought I posted this comment yesterday but now I do not see it. Apologies if this is a duplicate. In regard to supplements, are there any opportunities for Amazon delivery while traveling?
Great question. We've only ever once seen Amazon lockers for pickup. You may be able to arrange this in some way, but packages don't get left by doorsteps like I was used to back home.
Is the cost of the full medical, the portion you paid after submitting it to your insurance, or is this the cost without insurance? Just wasn’t sure if you used your insurance to make a claim for this full medical checkup. Thanks
Thank you. Love all your videos. I’ve learnt so much. I have 2 video suggestions……. 1. Scams that you may have experienced on your travels…… 2. Websites and Apps that you use
my wife ond i signed up for physicals at the Bangkok Hospital in Phuket in 2009. we paid $450 each for an 8 hour physical that you get each year for 3 years. the results for all the testing are presented to you at the end of the day. on our second year my wife was diagnosed with early stage lung cancer. we came back to the states for procedures due to insurance coverage. my wife has been cancer free now for 14 years.
That's so great to hear. Happy all went well, and that's not a bad price at all for emergency care. Cheers!!
That's so helpful, thank you for sharing. 😊

Of all the traveling RUclipsrs you guys are the first I’ve seen to cover medical tourism. Your experiences and information is literally valuable. Thanks for the video and keep bringing us videos! Eric and Siggi
So happy you found the information helpful 😊.
Poland is an amazing place to visit as well! Low cost of living, great food, friendly people, you can't go wrong!
Thank you for adding this to the channel, Peter!!
clinic name, please
My wife and I had root canal and crowns on our recent trip to Playa Del Carmen. Cost was perhaps 1/3 of what we pay in Canada and I thought the dentist and facilities are better than our current family dentist. Probably the biggest 'risk' was that you could develop a serious infection and maybe require hospitalization in a foreign country. For us however, it was a great experience.
That's great to hear, it's a great way to basically pay for your vacation. Cheers!!
Such great info! Sounds like Malaysia is the place to go as well for low cost care. Cheers!!
Great info and wonderful prices.... Thanks so much for sharing 😊
I'm going to ho chi Minh in 3 weeks for implants 70% cheaper
Another great video. Very informative. My son was telling me that the other popular medical tourism in Turkey is hair replacement! So the planes into Turkey filled with balding men, and leave with full heads of hair. At the 6:56 mark, Brian "I am sitting in my own waiting room..." but check out that posture!!! LMAO. More like "lounging"!! we all look forward to pics of Carrie's new crown!! Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Yes, that is so popular here as well, mainly in Istanbul. Yes, they should have been called lounging rooms 🤣. Cheers!!
Brian makes me laugh everytime with his comments. 😊
He keeps me on my toes 🤣🤣
@@BrianandCarrie😂😂I think he is hilarious and the comments just crack me up so much. I am going to order a 2 thirsty top
Well, thank you!!!
My dad got really sick 😷 n Thailand. Te hospital he walked into had a massive foyer and someone playing a grand piano. Im Canadian- we have excellent health coverage- but the rest of the world is amazing! Brian- beers great! Expand to red wine!
We love red and white wine as well! I was in the beer and wine business for 10 years. 😀 We are excited for Greece next month for that very reason!!
The eyeglass industry is basically a monopoly, with one company owning the vast majority of brands. That's why the price is the same pretty much worldwide,
My wife and I got our teeth cleaned in a very modern dental office in Tirana, Albania for $21 each.
I am so grateful for this video and all your research. I am scheduled for two crowns soon but now, I can see a trip to Turkey or Mexico in the near future! Thank you!!!!
So happy you found it helpful 😊. It's definitely worth looking into.
(Edit: need to add that my mother-in-law"s family doctor came to the house at 9pm last time we were in Romania because the airline lost our luggage which had our prescriptions. After the at home Dr visit, we cracked open a few beers and chatted about medicine. I used to run medical clinics in the early 2000's.)
That is amazing!! I'd take it too. 😀
Those are great prices! There are so many places to go that offer great care at an affordable price... Thanks so much for sharing.
Hello! Do you mind sharing where in Mexico you’ve had your dental work done? I need multiple crowns for which the cost is prohibitive for me. Thank you!
Great information. I am looking in going to Mexico for some dental work (two crowns or maybe implants). Where did you go in Mexico?
Thumbs up 👍 Brian & Carrie
Thanks so much for watching 😊
We were living in Germany during the pandemic, my friends (here in US) had no clue the extremly strict enforcement Europe had. No shot, no life. Also appreciate all the info. My niece went to Costa Rico for all her dental work.
Yes, much stricter here for sure! Good to know about Costa Rica, I've heard they are also known for great, affordable dental work. Cheers!
For glasses:
In Japan there are a lot of 1 hour glass places (I go to alook when in JP).
That is so great to know, thank you for sharing!
Everywhere is cheaper in Europe. We canceled our eye insurance in USA ,because its not worth. You pay 1000 with insurance, crazy!
If you need glasses, it would be hard to beat Zenni. I buy single vision glasses and frames for $7 plus $5 shipping. I am a repeat customer also filling more complex prescriptions. I've been happy every time.
Thanks for the tip 😊
@@BrianandCarrie BTW, my wife and I just moved to Bham and are loving the outdoor activities.

A Ceramic Crown in New Zealand will cost $1600NZD
A basic dental clean $200NZD
A general doctor visit $75NZD
I live in Innsbruck, Austria. Dental work through a private dentist can run between 1000-1500 Euro per crown. However, I have a residence visa and have access to government dental. All I pay for a crown is a couple hundred Euro. As for prescriptions most are covered by the state health insurance. If something is not covered I pay 6.50 Euro.
Another great video packed with useful information. You two are really excelling at this! Thanks for all you do to keep us informed and entertained. Happy travels!

Would Safety Wing be a good add-on or would it be redundant
It sounds like it may be, but you may want to look at what Safety Wing has to offer above and beyond.
We will be looking at eyeglasses here in Mexico. I broke mine and in desperate need!!
Extremely well organized and presented. Packed with insight.
Thank you so much for watching. Happy you enjoyed it. Cheers!!
That's very interesting, thank you so much for sharing 😊
Yes, Chiang Mai was a great place for all this healthcare. Unfortunate about the air quality though, we were there in January and it was pretty good.
We do not have a specific clinic in Cancun, but we know it is a hot spot to work outside the US.
very interesting, thank you.
We are always surprised with how easy health care is around the world. Thank you for sharing!
Cheers!!🍻
I bought bifocal glasses in Seoul (Korea) - I brought my home prescription - and it was a fraction (about 1/4) of the cost in the US - including costco glasses. The glasses (including lenses) are made of plastic - a different technology - much cheaper but as good quality - the only thing is that you have to be careful in leaving them in the heat as they can get distorted &/or melt.
this was super informative and interesting. Thank you!! Glad I stuck with you two and tried another video . .
We are too, Penny! Thank you for giving us a chance!! 😀❤
Thanks for breaking this all down in such a way that clarifies things nicely.
Have you thought about self insuring? Based off your health exams in Thailand and the overall low cost around the world. 🤔
Could it make sense to invest your insurance payments in ETFs (dividends)or Vanguard indexes?
Not a day goes by where I regret it, was worth twice what it cost me
That's great to know. Makes me to nervous still, but maybe at some point. Cheers!!
Costco optical is quite reasonable. Exam $70 US. My computer progressives were $130.
That's not too bad 😊
Vaccines for safe travel are a lot more than 2x what you quoted! I got Hep A & B, typhoid, cholera, Japanese encephalitis, updated my MMR, polio, shingles, and DTP. Some were offered through my regular doctor, some I had to get at a travel clinic. $1,850 was my bill (with great insurance). Word to the wise...maybe wait until you get to your destination if that feels safe.
Yikes, that's so much! Yes, some you could totally wait on, but the hep shots you need to plan ahead as they have a wait time between shots.
You both are extremely informative.
Thank you!! ❤
Do you know of other places in the world that offers similar testing like Thailand? Desperately want it but was hoping to find something closer to Canada with not so big a time change lol.
We do not know of any line what we received in Thailand.
Thanks for your videos! I will soon be living part time in France and am considering a trip to Turkey for a full body check up. Wondering if you’ve considered or done? Any thoughts? Bon Voyage!
We did a full body checkup in Thailand last year. We did a video about it. It was a great experience.
@@BrianandCarrie thanks! Sorry I missed!
It was over a year ago so no problem. 😊
Very true, we got ours months before our visit to SE Asia.
Thank you for this video!! We’ve been waiting for this info and so glad you did it. Very helpful with wonderful commentary and footage. Glad you’re both healthy too :)
Thank you so much!! We are happy that you found it helpful! To good health!
Cheers!!🍻
Turkey is also where a lot of men go for hair transplants. Many guys walking around with new plugs. Looks so painful!
We saw so much of that in Istanbul. It did look so painful, but from what we hear they do a great job at a very affordable price.
Were you guys sponsored by any of the place you mentioned? I assume not. Thanks for sharing.
We are not sponsored by anyone!! 😀 Thank you for watching!!
Cheers!!
Get diagnosis at home (if you can) so you know exactly what to request with new foreign dentist.
Thank you so much for all of this good info from your experiences! Checking into getting my dental work done in Cancun now! I'm a new subscriber to your channel now!
Hi. Who ate you using in Cancun im interested as I’m going there in 2 months

Hope they are pink next time! Lol!!! But for now, yellow is his color! Teehee hee@@BrianandCarrie
Oh man guys, this is such a fantastic video! Thank you for sharing the wealth of info!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for watching 😊
I am curious about the final result for the implant as I need two done and am considering folding the treatment into a couple of future EU vacation trips
The final results were great! I was very pleased with the complete process. Cheers!!
@@BrianandCarrie good to know and thanks for both the follow up and that initial video as it has been very helpful and informative
Thanks again for your content. ✈✈🏘🏘@@BrianandCarrie
Can you speak about mental health care?
Specifically PTSD (veteran) and all the issues that come with it.
That is a topic that we are not qualified to speak on.
@@BrianandCarrie Thank you I understand. Was hoping for some info on any services as such, you might have noticed in your travels.
Love your channel! I was wondering, was the implant you got in Turkey successful and are you satisfied with the implant you got?
Any complications?
Thank you in advance!
Thank you ❤️. Yes, 100% satisfied and zero complications. I would highly recommend the clinic I went to. Cheers!!
Thank you Carrie,
You you made me feel sooo much better. I will definitely get in touch with the clinic because we will be there in October. ❤
Great tips, thank you 😊. Always better to veer on the safe side.
Why can you bee arrested? You can bring medicine in original package.
@@LU-jo2jz
Brilliant Content 👍
Thank you so much ❤️
Another great informative video. Very timely for me. Thanks
So happy you found it helpful 😊. Cheers
I am sure this has been asked, but how did you travel during covid with the 90 day stay? Did you just stay in the non Schengen countries? Love your channel! 😊
Yes, we traveled to Montenegro and Albania, then back to Greece 😊
Did y’all get any specific vaccines in the US before traveling? Or do you get any that you need along the way? (I know you touched on COVID, but for example, Hep A or something like that.) Thanks again for the helpful video!
Hi! As we mentioned in the video, we got our vaccines for SE Asia in Croatia.
We have been very pleased with our dental work in Türkiye!
About medicine, you need to check what main ingredient are. Then you buy medicine made in Europe. Tylenol is the same paracetamol in Europe. You can buy 20 pills for 2 euros.
Very true. Unfortunately, I use ibuprofen and that has been expensive everywhere no matter what brand 😔
@@BrianandCarrie Tylenol has as incredient Iboprufen. In România is called Nurofen
Can you make video about "how how much money is youtube paying you from ads or whats your affiliate marketing income like"? Doest it even cover your overall expenses? thanks and i keep watching you :)))))
Thanks for the idea!
How do travel costs add in?
That would all depend where you are traveling from 😊
I am curious about the testing done in Thailand. Is it just a blanket list of tests, or do you go over health symptomd with them?
If you had specific concerns you could have requested specific tests for that. But, if wanting to discuss symptoms or concerns you would want to have a Dr visit.... Which you could have done as well.
Comment on sending gift items back to the states via FedEx etc? Don't want to load up carry on luggage. Found this quite useful traveling in the states using priority mail
We have never shipped anything home but we know people do. We tend to buy small gifts that we can travel with.
India also has very high quality dental, vision and medical options and English is widely spoken as well.
I've heard that, well have to check that out when we head there. Cheers!!
Jaw drop unbelievable at the difference at prices!
It was shocking to us, so much more affordable.
Did you include the price you both pay for Cigna Global? With and without US coverage?
We did not and explained why in the video.
You can just go to the website and get a free quote for yourself.
@@earlyretirement1459 no kidding.
Can you make a video of all your favorite apps? I can share two great apps called Units Plus ( conversions of everything from a lot of countries)
We will add this to our video idea list!! Thank you!!
I’m surprised they placed the implant at the same time as when they took out the tooth. I assume the tooth wasn’t infected?
They didn't, we returned 4 months later.
Carrie, in the States, I have to have sedation dentistry done- will they do sedation or at least nitrous oxide in Turkey?
Great question! Didn't dig much into this area, as I didn't want it. But they were great at answering any questions I had.
If medical wasn't so darn expensive in the US we might consider getting stuff done here. The US is outrageously priced. Screw big pharma
It's crazy how the rest of the world is affordable, but the US is crazy expensive!!
Hi Thank you for great info. I’m seriously thinking of moving permanently to Europe ( Italy, Portugal or Spain) Do you have any info regarding obtaining health insurance for non citizens. Any suggestions where I would start to research?
This will vary by each country you are looking at, especially if looking at temporary residence.
Insurance is not by citizens but by taxes in Europe. You need to be resident first and then pay tax to cover healthcare.
Cheers!!
My son had full veneers done in Antalya last year. A fraction of what it would have cost him in NYC.
hi, do they do the veneers in a day?
I have heard dental is so much cheaper in other countries. I am curious what diet plan Brian is doing now
It definitely is cheaper, by far. Brian's trying to eat better, cut back on beer and exercise more regularly. He's doing a great job 😊
I've been cutting down on beer and exercise, too.
My dentist charges $700 for mouth guard.
Isn't that ridiculous 🥺.... Mine was $50
Can you tell me what your overall monthly cost are on average?
Good to know. Thank you. Happy Travels.
I need the best holistic dentist in thailand, maylasia, or turkey that doesnt use toxic materials, metal-free. How?
I'm sure there must be a office out there that meets what you're looking for. Best of luck in your search 😊
Is the cost of the full medical, the portion you paid after submitting it to your insurance, or is this the cost without insurance? Just wasn’t sure if you used your insurance to make a claim for this full medical checkup. Thanks
That was full amount out of pocket. Our insurance doesn't cover preventative care.
Thank you. Love all your videos. I’ve learnt so much. I have 2 video suggestions……. 1. Scams that you may have experienced on your travels…… 2. Websites and Apps that you use
If you pay out of pocket for medical stuff, why do you also need global health insurance?
Health insurance is for major medical. Cancer or a serious accident.
Can you share the the name of the dentist in Turkey? And if you went to dentist in Portugal, that name as well . Ty
The link to the dentist in Turkey is in the video description. The dentist in Portugal was GoDental.
