If they are serious about selling the house they need to declutter it and make it all available for viewing. That kind of clutter really turns potential buyers off.
We’re you thinking of buying? Sounds like they are working on it and I’m sure their realtor is guiding them. Be kind - you never know someone’s situation.
Omg shut it. House is fine. Half a million dollars fine. This was for an architectural view inside and out. It's not for purchase, so the details of being super clean are not important! Even if it was cluttered, which it's not, I'd buy.
I have wanted to live in a geodesic dome home since I was a young boy. I first read about Buckminster Fuller when I was about 10 or 11 years old. His designs and inventions were so far ahead of their time that it is hard to believe he did the things he did with the technology available in his time. All of his designs worked, but weren't as practical as he seemed to think they were. With the exception of the geodesic dome. That is a design and a structure that ticks off every box. I am too old to consider living in one now, but I continue to dream.
This is more than a house, it's a mansion. I'd settle for a magidome for a tiny Shelter in the garden. I made 1 miniature, it takes 25 sicks same lenght and 11 hubs to hold them together. I looks quite good and I feel good just thinking of it. At 70 I'm spending part of my time thinking about how I could make a bigger one to sit under. It would have to be winterized as our Canadian climate brings us arctic colds most of the winter and summer is too hot for us. 🍁☃
domes are the future for humankind and a healthy society. So beautiful hiuse I hope day to build something lime it, thanks for showing the house, magnificent presentation, congrats
There had been a uniquely shaped house in the hills somewhere near Sunol, CA. I'm not certain of the _exact_ city, I was 8 (43 years ago). I was always fascinated by the unusual house, perched on the side of a hill, within sight of the freeway -it could be seen on the commute. I've tried to research it, but nothing turns up. I _love_ this! It's an unusual design, very future conscious in all materials used, and it is _currently_ a family home.. not abandoned, not being repurposed, not demo'd.. but still used for what it was intended: a home for a family. 💖 This is a great house. Thank you, Ken. And thanks to the homeowners.
Interesting home, lots of unique rooms, and the garage layout is so cool. Too bad you don't get the total feel of the size of the place, as there is way too much clutter.
I noticed that, too. As cool as the place is, it would breathe a sigh of relief if some tossing & purging of clutter could take place, and before potential buyers arrive for tours.
These geodesic houses were never prevalent, even at the height of their popularity. And now they have reached that awkward age of being too old to be beautiful and too young to be historically significant. I fear many will be (and probably already have been) torn down. Thanks for giving us a look inside! I hope this home finds new owners who love it's unique character.
In a way, dome homes represent the sci-fi optimism of the mid 20th century, an era when people were promised civilian space travel and space colonies, robotic slaves, etc. This was optimism despite fears of a nuclear holocaust! You have to admit though, dome shaped buildings are pretty cool and strong to boot!
From the air, at 7:16, the home looks like the most adorable robot I've ever seen, lol, with a head, body, and arms & legs. I was intrigued by the crushed glass countertops & the copper sink. I love the idea of sleeping under a window that's nearly directly above me, something you don't get from a "regular" home. I liked the unique butcher block stand-alone table in the kitchen & the artsy pendant lights. I absolutely loved the large painting featured front & center in the living room of a Native American. The low passage-way upstairs wouldn't bother me because I am 5'1" and fairly tiny to begin with. Also, they are oh-so-lucky that they live alongside that creek. If I lived there, you couldn't keep me out of that creek.
We have many of these back in Colorado, I have always been fascinated by them, but one thing I always feared, are all those triangle panels and water leakage and who would one even call to fix it... Though I did see one in the mountains that had been wrapped and completely covered in cedar shake shingles...That garage is a dream though. lol. Loved the tour of it.. thank you.
When built correctly, like this one, they tend to hold up really well against the elements. Of course, they have to be properly maintained on the exterior, but clay is very resilient to water. Glad you enjoyed this tour!
Yeah, more joints and angles generally mean more places that can leak. But I guess if it's sealed properly, that probably wouldn't be a big issue. There's also monolithic domes that don't have this problem, though monolithic domes don't tend to be as homey as many geodesic domes.
Wow! Definitely 'outside-of-the-box' 😊 I bet its beautiful when the sun shines through those windows. (I would hate to build it tho 😳 all those angles!) Thanks for sharing ~ fun to explore new ideas
Not sure my dad would think much of the house portion, but he'd probably be thrilled to have a garage as awesome as this has. All that space for his tools and machinery...
The garage just seemed to go on and on to me. Very nice for someone needing lots of space to store stuff, work on projects or just putter around, lol!!
Saw a dome house in Utah , as you leave AZ via the Glen canyon dam bridge, at Page heading to the dinosaur museum , really nice ,also saw a beautiful lilac coloured pueblo house near Montezuma well , close to the Navajo casino . Two of the most unique houses I have seen in the USA
I remember as a kid, visiting the domed foam house in the Wisconsin Dells. It was futuristic and very cool. I understand it was torn down long ago, but it left an impression! Any time I see a domed house, I think of the Foam House. I know back then you could purchase these homes. I often wonder if that's why people build domed houses!
I love geodesic domes, and also nice seeing a home with lots of stuff in it. This seems reasonably priced. I like the ceiling in the man cave better than main home because I think although the wood framing of the geometry is really nice quality, I think the structure of the geodesic dome is more beautiful when not outlined. Doing drywall on these domes can be expensive and difficult. Cupolas would be a good design feature on regular homes also.
Also, to people in the comments discussing the home's decor, this really isn't the forum. This channel is dedicated to graciously sharing regional architecture with us (Thank you This House!). I'm glad you enjoyed it! The guest suite wasn't camera ready, so they kindly asked us to skip it. The secondary bathroom had the same finishes as the kitchen to give you a clue as to what it looked like. Thanks for watching!
This was interesting to see a Geodesic Dome House that is actually lived in. I have only seen a video of an abandoned one and in the movie The House of Tomorrow.
Very interesting, Ken, and a real change of pace. You’re certainly getting us out of our comfy little boxes with this one! I love the natural materials - those thick, Mexican clay tile floors are scrumptious! And the light is great with the way it bounces off all the angles in the walls. I did actually prefer the look of the walls in the “man cave” without the wood outlining each and every line of the geometry. But I know many would love all the wood. And it does add to the uniqueness of the interior. It looks like a very nice, large piece of property and with so many windows, there’s always a great view!
I'm glad you liked this one! The contrast between the two domes was very enjoyable for me. The differences in details really made each dome feel like it's own special place.
What an interesting place to live. I like the colors they used. It must be very interesting to live with open ceiling’s you would be able to hear everything from the surrounding rooms. Clearly too far from traditional for me, but nice to visit.
Wow. Definitely different, I'm surprised that it wasn't de-cluttered a bit, I'm guessing the owners are Green Bay Packers fans, probably disappointed that they lost. But still a unique home, much different from most of the ones you normally tour.. keep it up Ken!
Hi I'm Grant Davis, It's 9:00pm and my question is getting a dome home expensive? However I got to thinking about getting a set of four small domes with one of them being a garage.
whenever I see these types of dwellings I think double-glazing window companies should get into making them for DIY assembly, make the hexagonal framework in sections that can be bolted together, they can be filled with insulation and clad on both sides or glazed as needed, but keep them all the same dimensions for cheapness of manufacturing, when you look at one of these dwellings it just looks like a lot of odd shaped double glazing, could be a great business venture here for someone glazing companies,
One one hand, this cool dome home is futuristic, like something you'd see on a martian colony, on the other hand, the domes are quite homey! Dome shaped buildings are far stronger than box-shaped buildings made of the same materials, they can even survive direct hits from tornados!
Monolithic domes are actually the stronger of the two, like fortresses, both do well in strong wind's due to their aerodynamic shapes. Geodesic domes actually get stronger the bigger they get due to being made from triangles. The 3rd type, Schewedler, known for ribs and rings.
This dome shape house is a dream for me .. this house's exterior interior is awesome ..but the owners have made a mess inside, they could have manage it more neatly while arranging stuff to their proper place rather than throwing it everywhere. They could have utilized the space more efficiently..

Very cool house. I can admire the decor even though I’m not Native American. I don’t know why some people are trying to find racism in everything. I like Asian decor too does that make me a racist? Let’s enjoy the art of other cultures.
I think there is a line between appreciation and appropriation. And for me, this decor crossed it. As a person with [distant] Native American heritage, I own several pieces of Native American art, purchased from Native artists at either Pow Wows, or Reservations. But it does not fill my house. It is mixed with art of many genres, eras, and cultures. Contrasted with this house which is FILLED with Native American symbolism, some of it art, some not, and most of it appears to be mass produced. Using Only themed decor from one specific culture not ones own, takes it to a place of fetishization. And buying mass produced fails to support the culture one is claiming to appreciate.
There are a lot of native American details in that house. Did it ever occur to you that maybe the owners ARE native Americans? I don't know if they are or not, but don't be so presumptuous that everything is racist!
