Especially for the Eldar. Giving them a Beksinskian appearance is really good at getting across the pseudo-organic nature of their technology (it's called wraithBONE after all), and also very effectively communicates to the audience the vibe that they give off in-universe: Eldar are beautiful but also vaguely unsettling, as is everything they make. I wish we got Beksinskian Eldar more often.
I didn't know who he was until you mentioned him. I looked him up and realized I've seen some of his art before. I definitely see the resemblance, and also wonder the quantity and type of drug it takes to hone this creativity.
Not to mention the statue of the Emperor having basically one of Beksiński's paintings as his armor and general style. This is still the best depiction of the grimdarkness of the setting. That scowl as the marine looks to the statue of the emperor. The crisis of faith, the uselessness of their efforts, the ever-constant bellows of hatred and vengeance that flames their suicidal charges and rushes. The comfort of final release.
space marines in general (with the exception of the sons of the emperor + a some others in the past) don't see the emperor as a god, but rather as the pinnacle of mankind. It's not so much a crisis of faith as it is probably a contemplation of meaning, duty and respect for the battle ahead. orhan Hey, I just wanted to say thanks to your comment I just started to look up that guy's paintings. They are incredible and terrifyingly surreal, and I thank you for making that comment.
The basic rundown is everything is fucking horrible for everyone. Humans formed an hyper religious empire with trillions of citizens and billions of soldiers and they're fighting an endless war against space elves who literally fucked a god into existence, dark elves who the elves that fucked a god into existence think are way too sexually perverted, zergs X 1,000,000, hyper advanced blue aliens that's only notable trait is they're the only thing in the series that isn't over the top grimdark, giant green super humans that exist only to fight and reproduce through spores, and of course fucking demons that will literally fuck you to death or corrupt all your friends so they fuck you to death. On top of that they constantly face the threat of warp corruption, that warp being a place that exist on pure emotion and is the closest thing to hell, only it makes hell look like a summer home by comparison. On top of that the gods of the warp exist only to completely fuck humanity over merely by existing like some Lovecraftian shit, the whole place is basically concentrated FUCK YOU.
+Sergei Ivanovich Mosin Don't forget all the other crazy shit like Terminator mummies, the comatosed god who's fed 10000 psychics daily (who, even while comatosed, makes all the Chaos Gods lose their collective Lovecraftian shit when anyone just mentions him), sun eating energy beings, furry space marines and toaster worshipping lunatics with the biggest of robot and tech fetishes. Can't forget that shit.
I think the most impactful part of this trailer isn’t the stunning visuals or score, but the space marine’s serene smile at the end. It’s utterly unexpected and yet perfectly captures the special horror of grimdark fantasy
The shot at 1:25 is a work of art - it's so striking and calm in the face of everything that happened prior in the video, with the music pulsing through in the background. Masterclass in film making.
One of the many things I love about this trailer is how the Wraithknight moves so gracefully and fluidly, yet still *feels* big! Way too often even in big-budget films they will make something that is big, but it won't FEEL big because of the way it moves. Here, they've managed to capture that grace and fluid movement so that it feels like it moves fast for it's size, but it still feels enormous.
The sound effects and sound in this trailer is some of the most specific and attention-to-detail sound I've ever heard in my life... holy crap.. down to like little clinks on metal and swoops from axes, you could tell like how everything was being swung and moving without even seeing it... geez more people should hire that sound guy/girl to do game sounds
FOR THE EMPEROR!!! But seriously....of all the space marines wielding rocket launchers/plasma cannons/lascannons/thunder hammers/power axes/power fists. They had to send the one with a chainsword to go against a Deff Dread. Good job, commander.
I was thinking the same...like you have all these other soldiers that have good and powerful gear and weapons yet you run up to him with a chains word...brave...but idiotic if you ask me...
@@Guydenorint there was most likely an ork inside who wanted to put on a little show and sawed the marine in half, if it didn’t get blown up from behind, it would’ve continued going fowards, eventually.
@@cletusmandeletusman2328 Yeah sure but we were talking about the marine stopping the initial charge... of course the walker would have continued after. I don't imagine him turning around saying "Aaaaah job is done ! Another good day at work !"
True it never ends well for them. They're constantly getting killed in the Dawn Of War trailers or intros. The only trailer I recall where any survived at all was in the DOW II trailer with the Tyranid Lictor and even then the screen faded to black as the Blood Raven Sergeant began fighting it. Still I count him as the only Blood Raven not to die in a trailer. In Dawn Of War I's? Yeah they're all dead but there is at least there is reassurance reinforcements are coming.
I have to agree, the opening cinematic of DoW 1 is at least equally badass. Trailers for Necromunda Underhive Wars and Mechanicus give me the chills too tho ♥️
When she says "in the face of death I shall have no remorse" I have tears in my eyes for some reason. Absolutely gorgeous. Pity that the game not as half as that good
WHOEVER WROTE, DIRECTED, CRAFTED & DESIGNED THIS CINEMATIC NEEDS TO BE HIRED ON FOR A FULL 1HR30M FEATURE FILM TO FINALLY GIVE 40K THE FILM IT DESERVES. DARK, HELLISH, ALL OUT CARNAGE IS WHAT A 40K FILM NEEDS.
Haha I know right. They are a pure creation of man's need for competition, survival, honour, and duty. Funny how appealing they are considering the lengths they go to and how morbid and dark this Fantasy is. About time Star Wars died and people made way for Warhammer.
I come back to this so often. Absolutely incredible trailer - direction is amazing, sound design incredible, visuals are spot on. Thank you so much to every single person that worked on this! I will always treasure it
I watch this every few months just for the rush it gives me. It's almost entirely like a drug. Having played 40k and read Black Library novels since I was 11, this is like a drean realised. Seeing the stoic nature of Space Marines charging into certain death, the subtext of Orks being portrayed as an unstoppable tide - as well as the sheer horrifying brutality of them - and the mysterious nature of the Eldar. As others have mentioned, the way the music and commentary goes with the visuals is done to near perfection. It's a hot summer day here and I have goosebumps from this.
It a dopamine hit, you are getting a chemical released from you're body. thats why its so fkn good to watch before hitting the gym, cause yes its like a drug haha :D
This was the trailer that first got me into the franchise. The trailer captivated me with its gore, scale and (in a strange way) it's elegance. Even years after first watching this video, I still can imagine the Howling Banshees on the cliff side, the Blood Ravens struggling in the sandstorm, the Deff Dread fighting the marines, the Wraithknight emerging from the smoke and duelling the Imperial Knights. The combination of horrific combat, phenomenal sound design, amazing animation, and terrifying soundtrack all perfectly capture the Warhammer universe and make this one of he most memorable trailers I have ever seen. (If anyone is wondering, the next level song that plays is called "Where there is Darkness" by Paul Leonard-Morgan) Six years ago this trailer gave me chills, and six years later it still can.
hamsterminator it has to be a metaphor cos if my memory serves me right, space marines take quite a while to make, various body parts, emperor technology and all should take time so having them die in such numbers will really hurt the empire.
+T4l0nITA The second one was a proper rts...i hope this is different from both 1 and 2. And given that there are titans in this trailer, i think the combat scale will be massive.
+ShmoopyLongnuts the second one wasn't really a proper rts. it was more small quick skirmish fights. the first one you could have a bunch of guys. but i do agree, i hope the game is a little different. i hate games with "titans" usually only becomes about building those.
+T4l0nITA I understand what you mean, but DOW 2 had far superior tactical and strategic elements and a much more polished game. I hope DOW 3 takes the best of both
Absolutely love how death is just a trivial thing in the Warhammer 40k universe. Everybody is just fucking up everybody else. Hundreds are dying every single second. That last shot of the thousands of bodies just falling onto a mountain of bodies portrays the amount of death in the galaxy so well.
I probably spent more time waching this trailer than I played the actual game. Go figure. That scene where the titan runs through the eldar walker thing is legendary.
"This is the Dawn of War that fans have been waiting for. Our biggest units ever? Check. Giant orbital lasers? Check. Base-building, epic heroes, huge battles, it's all in there. Get ready for the biggest Dawn of War yet. For the Emperor!" take all my money, now.
Space marines take a long time to bred for combat, ans to see the way that spacemarine got fucked by that orc machine was so horrifying, as it rips it in two and slowly holds half his corpse in victory, only to be blown to shit by a titan. Fuck me this universe is so dark and grim its wonderful, you don't see anything with this kind of balls
+Stev Mcgin To be true that scene was a bit misleading ...a SM never reaches his hand for Help or Mercy , when the time comes he has to die ,he simply dies and is not crying and sniveling around like normal humans... to make that scene right..with his last living power he tried to reach the orks throat to squeeze the **** shit out of him but failed..
just like coh2, and its campaign, look better, this is actually death worship (satanists, freemasons and their like are death cultists) When you look from this perspective, the trailer makes some sense. Like usa elite wishing to sacrifice billions to their false gods. (aka ww3) W40K is just an instrument of this cryptic kind of message. They work like that. Like mordor preparing for invasion. (notice the furious bloodthirsty antirussian hysteria in US-controlled media ? Obscene and insane)
+cdgncgn ? Warhammer 40k is a universe where it is the complete opposite of Star Wars. Where Star Wars is a good vs evil story, Warhammer 40k is about a universe in eternal war that cannot be stopped and that hope is a road to dissappointment. I don't know about you, but that view is just... delusional.
***** I've met Russians and I'll be fair, this fucker does not fall within their population. Besides, I've notice this guy is running around in the comment section spamming that Warhammer 40k is a 'cryptic' message when in fact its a universe meant to be fucked up.

he looks more like wishing for it cause his life is so miserable - american elite perversion projected to this moving picture. Serious signs of a death cult/satan worship disguised as always.
For those interested Paul Leonard-Morgan did the OST for the game (probably the best thing about the game tbh), including the music from the trailer. It is on Spotify
Never was a fan of WH40K but this trailer is masterpiece!!! I always come back here and watch this trailer to feel this excitement again. Great job, best trailer ive ever seen.
I remember stepping into the world of RUclips in 2015 in college and at some point watching a top 20 upcoming game and seeing this trailer. I will never forget the character with the red hair and the screams they did as they jumped down from those exists in their many numbers. I will never forget the voice of the woman narrating during the trailer. "In vengeance (screams) I shall have no mercy". That part is what always brings me back to this trailer. I still dont know what Warhammer really is but this trailer was incredible.
@@Kusanagi7618 the eldar race (space elves) committed so much debauchery they involuntarily created the god of debauchery (slaanesh) who then proceeded to genocide and eat the souls of the 95% of the eldar who hadn’t been disguised by all the debauchery and left (craftworlders mostly, few others though) slaanesh then killed most of the eldar gods as well (out of the 3 eldar gods that lived, one got kidnapped by the god of plauge, death, and rot, one is hiding and protecting some eldar, and the other is divided into millions of pieces), and slaanesh found eldar souls pretty tasty so whenever an eldar dies without protection for their soul, slaanesh takes their soul and condemns them to eternal bdsm, they’re in a bit of a rough spot, they also call humans mon-keigh lol
I feel the same way. The first image of the Eldar standing still with their flowing red hair looking off into the distance along with the pulsating music in the background encapsulates what I feel grimdark fantasy should look and feel like to witness. Truly a masterpiece of a game trailer both from an audio and visual viewpoint.
I keep watching this over and over and keep spotting amazing details! Like the Seargent (presumably) at the end, when he raises his chainsword in defence it's probably just his reflexes from all his training + experience. Then when he realises he's not going to make it he loosens his grip... and goes happily to the Emperor!
He's already dead, he's standing in front of the emperor in the warp and recalling his deeds and being judged. He stood when others fell at the wind of death, scarred but not broken, he fought endless hordes of enemies without fear, he saw knights and titans fight but didn't run. And now he's dead and has no regrets - he did everything that was asked of him by his god, and his time came to an end. But in that pile of corpses he's just another meatbag in the grinder, buried under thousands, millions of others just like him, and nobody cares, it just goes on and on. The corpse river will flow.
"In darkness, I shall be light. In times of doubt, I shall keep faith. In throes of rage, I shall hone my craft. In vengeance, I shall have no mercy. In the midst of battle, I shall have no fear. In the face of death, I shall have no remorse"
Just about every frame is a piece of art. Combined with amazing music, voiceover, and sound design, and symbolic plot, this is an unforgettable trailer.
For those who see this for the first time, just stay here and enjoy this gorgeous teaser....because this is the only good thing about Dow3! There is an insulting mess of a game after this!
Aww...I like Tau. On another note, I'd love to see the Dark Eldar in HD. They're so sadistic and creepy and detailed...but they're barely ever represented in any of the video games. Also the Sisters of Battle, just so that someone will revive them. They've been living in a dump for too long.

+Sergei Ivanovich Mosin This might have been the single most accurate basic rundown of the 40k universe that I have ever seen. I needed this.
+Sergei Ivanovich Mosin I thought the story went like this...
"What if fantasy people had like, future stuff?"
"Dude, that would be sick."
you forgot the necrons
this trailer did the impossible
it got closer to the essence and heart of 40k than any of the other video games.

I think the most impactful part of this trailer isn’t the stunning visuals or score, but the space marine’s serene smile at the end. It’s utterly unexpected and yet perfectly captures the special horror of grimdark fantasy
Indeed. I get chills every time.
sometimes i just come back to this trailer and pretend that im still hyped up for the game
lol that's why I'm here. I wasn't even a 40k guy just thought this trailer is a masterpiece and an aesthetic gem.
"Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment"
well my hype had died after the first gameplay trailer
its a shame that this trailer basically captured the grim, insane essence of the 40k universe, yet the game was a total let down...
The shot at 1:25 is a work of art - it's so striking and calm in the face of everything that happened prior in the video, with the music pulsing through in the background. Masterclass in film making.

That deathpit should have been practically filled with Imperial Guard bodies.
This guy knows what's up. Also, the game is actually kinda shit compared the previous installations. Shame..
Most of the Marines shouldn't be in that pit, the apothecaries could fix them up. But I doubt they are coming
Yes
I'm pretty sure that pit/mountain structure is just made up of more corpses...
It is. They....compress well under all the weight.
Yeah it is pretty good! I just wish I could've seen them sprint towards those Imperial Knights though. They can really move.
Read this and the new Godzilla x Kong trailer came to mind
The sound effects and sound in this trailer is some of the most specific and attention-to-detail sound I've ever heard in my life... holy crap.. down to like little clinks on metal and swoops from axes, you could tell like how everything was being swung and moving without even seeing it... geez more people should hire that sound guy/girl to do game sounds

I was thinking the same...like you have all these other soldiers that have good and powerful gear and weapons yet you run up to him with a chains word...brave...but idiotic if you ask me...
1:59 ... Sure he dies... But he single handedly stopped an enemy walker in a full on charge... That's enough for me
Yeah true I never noticed hte walker was charging... it s already a miracle it didn't just walk on him.
Not good enough, almost heretical. Remember; life is the Emperor's currency. Spend it well.

Trailer is rough on the Space Marines.
Jason987262 when are they not?
True it never ends well for them. They're constantly getting killed in the Dawn Of War trailers or intros. The only trailer I recall where any survived at all was in the DOW II trailer with the Tyranid Lictor and even then the screen faded to black as the Blood Raven Sergeant began fighting it. Still I count him as the only Blood Raven not to die in a trailer. In Dawn Of War I's? Yeah they're all dead but there is at least there is reassurance reinforcements are coming.
Funny cause the game is the opposite.
Wow, they are now treated like every other faction 😲

Same.

It a dopamine hit, you are getting a chemical released from you're body. thats why its so fkn good to watch before hitting the gym, cause yes its like a drug haha :D
In the Face of Death, I shall have No Remorse
You have to watch Astartes then! It's not grand like this, but it shows how absolutely, insanely, ridiculously badass space marines are.
this trailer is pure art. outstanding.
(If anyone is wondering, the next level song that plays is called "Where there is Darkness" by Paul Leonard-Morgan)
Six years ago this trailer gave me chills, and six years later it still can.
I want this trailer to be a movie.

+k skinox The smile on the Marine's face as he waited for sweet death.
+k skinox Was it on some kind of Chaos homeworld, or was the raining bodies thing just a metaphor do you think?
hamsterminator it has to be a metaphor cos if my memory serves me right, space marines take quite a while to make, various body parts, emperor technology and all should take time so having them die in such numbers will really hurt the empire.
+k skinox looks like a reference to the old greek perception of death or Dante's Inferno.
Whether the game itself is good or not, this is STILL my “go to” trailer I show people anytime I get the question “what’s 40k”?

+ShmoopyLongnuts the second one wasn't really a proper rts. it was more small quick skirmish fights. the first one you could have a bunch of guys. but i do agree, i hope the game is a little different. i hate games with "titans" usually only becomes about building those.
+T4l0nITA I understand what you mean, but DOW 2 had far superior tactical and strategic elements and a much more polished game. I hope DOW 3 takes the best of both

Space marines take a long time to bred for combat, ans to see the way that spacemarine got fucked by that orc machine was so horrifying, as it rips it in two and slowly holds half his corpse in victory, only to be blown to shit by a titan.
The red haired things are Eldar Banshees. Melee unit.
@@danielji2742 I'm back to watch this again. Thanks for letting me know the names of the Elder banshees
Anyone else think the space marine stopping the deff dread in full sprint was epic!
