Here's part two of finding a musician's most popular song and deciding whether or not it's actually good. In addition, we'll go through with a criteria of how good the song is on its own without context, whether or not it represents the artist at hand, and if that track could be one of their very best. We're discussing the following musicians: Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, Coldplay, Drake, Bon Iver, Jay-Z, Nirvana, Weezer, Gorillaz, Pink Floyd, Daft Punk, Sza, Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, and Beabadoobee.
video essay / favorite / musician / popular / viral / top / billboard / platinum / review / best / worst - Видеоклипы
I think Kill Bill has already became SZA's biggest song
I totally agree. I don’t know how many times the chorus to “Kill Bill” pops into my head daily. If I knew someone named Bill (even William) that would automatically be their ringtone, lmao.
recency bias
@@AsexTwin More than one thing can be true at once. It’s recent AND can be one of her biggest signature songs too. 🤷🏾♂️
@@AsexTwin i don’t think so it’s being in the top 5 for months now, and has become one of her most stream songs, i actually think it’s her most stream solo song.
wtf how
It sucks that Viva la Vida can never be claimed as Coldplay's biggest song anymore or else it would be the prime example of a track being insanely popular while simultaneously demanding such high universal praise the likes of which I've never seen before.
Empire State of Mind will forever be a 10/10 song for me. Everything about it is just so perfect.
While I don’t think Teen Spirit is their best song, it’s VERY representative of Nirvana and just because it’s popular shouldn’t take away from how perfect a song it is
I'd be curious to see a part 3 with The Killers, Oasis, Billie Eilish, Tame Impala, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Fleetwood Mac, Arctic Monkeys
He already did Billie Eilish.
I’m curious to see what he would say about Oasis-Wonderwall
Literally all the artists I dont wanna see
Queen too, but really we already know the answer
I'd like to see Imagine Dragons too
Funny that you sort of compared Beabadoobee and TS because Bea is opening for Taylor in a few cities on her tour so maybe Swifties will rightfully propel Bea into stardom 😁
thought of this when I was writing it! glad you noticed that too
I believe "Something Just Like This" is just a Chainsmokers song featuring Chris Martin. Same thing can be say for "A Sky Full of Stars", which I like but it's Avicii's rather than Coldplay's song.
I really wish beabadoobee would get more recognition for HER music because she has such a cool sound and dabbles in several genres and to think most people only heard her voice on that god awful coffee sample song is so sad
honestly if you like doing these im fine with this becoming an ongoing series, I enjoy it very much!
Great video as always.
We need part three.
Keep it up.
I like this new turn that has been taken. I love the almost spontaneity!
tyler's biggest song is probably see you again or earfquake, which makes sense. they're both very anthemic pop songs (I mean earfquake was literally made for justin bieber) that still manage to be avant garde. It's crazy that he's considered a rapper when he's most known for his pop songs such as the two mentioned, 911 and wusyaname.
Great video! For the next part of this series, can you include some more rock and/or metal bands like AC/DC, Metallica, Survivor etc?
With that Beabadoobee part at the end, it made me wonder where "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster The People would sit. I've never heard one other song from their discography, so it'd be interesting to hear if this mega Indy hit is even near close to what their general style/vibe is.
Absolutely adoring this series. Would love to see a part 3 with some more rock/alt bands e.g. Guns N Roses, RHCP, The Doors, The Rolling Stones and more.
Avenged Sevenfold, Ronnie James Dio, Metallica, Slayer, DragonForce, Trivium, BucketHead, Motörhead, Queens of the Stone Age
Love this series
Now for “Something just like this” case, it’s not really much about the band and more so about Chris Martin singing on a Chainsmokers song, so I believe it doesn’t represent them at all 💀 also, I think Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” is imo the bigger hit and is the much better song overall. Also, Daft Punk in my eyes is kinda like Weezer, for me it’s hard to tell which of their hits is their most popular and their best, because ALL OF THEM ARE GREAT. For me it would be between “One More Time” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” But Get Lucky was a good choice. Once again, great video! ❤
I think is fair to say Viva la Vida is also Coldplay’s biggest song. Which imo is a perfect song. Great lyrics with one of the most interesting and creative melodies in popular music.
You're so right about Coldplay. They started off really strong and peaked at Viva La Vida (album). They made a couple good records after that but now they're just generic edm pop.
I feel like Everyday Life is unfairly put in the same vein as crap like SJLT
The first one was an amazing video from an amazing RUclipsr and such an awesome concept! So excited for part 2
you are commenting on the part 2...
@@user-ud5hb1go6x yeah.. he said he was excited for part 2. he probably commented this before watching the video
He said he won't be making a part 2
Is Their Biggest Song Actually Good? Part 2: Part 2
5:38 Bacon pancakes, makin' bacon pancakes!
I personally disagree on Get Lucky being representative of daft punk, since it's very different to the french house they become known for on Homework and Discovery
I agree. It's one of their best, but doesn't sound like their earlier work.
I'm curious. Which song do you think best represents their sound and which do you think is their best?
@@tss3393 I know you didn't ask me, but I think songs like "Da Funk" and "Aerodynamic" really represent the sound of French house. Their best song... It's though, they've a lot of masterpieces.
@@tss3393 also chiming in, i think it has to come from discovery because it has elements from all their other albums (more housy than RAM, more dico-y than homework etc.). I might pick Digital Love or even just One More Time, with One More Time being their best song imo
I wouldn't have put Something Just Like This as Coldplay's biggest song, would've definitely put Yellow, more people know that. And that'd got much better scoring
prt 3 plz!
I'd arguably say that Yellow is Coldplays biggest track, SJLT is a big radio hit sure but Yellow is iconic
Nah I think it's Viva la Vida. It's their only track to reach no.1 in the Hot 100.
Viva la Vida is their biggest hit imo lol
@@narrow3601 I agree as well lol
Yellow is cool but it just doesn't have that replaybility to it.
PART 3!!
I LOVE BEABADOOBEE
I think it would be awesome if you made a part three dedicated to indie artists, like I’d love to hear your thoughts on Welcome to the Internet in relation to Bo Burnham’s amazing discography.
I mean there's no discussion, welcome to the internet is bo Burnhams best song
@@SearcherRyan I wouldn't say it's his absolute best (That Funny Feeling, All Eyes on Me etc are hard to beat) but it's definitely up there.
In what world is the guy who has two netflix specials indie?? Like i dont hate him but he doesnt even have a indie inspired sound
@@shortinsomniac76 "indie" as in, independent, not as in "indie sound" (whatever that means). he may be massive now, but he genuinely had an independent startup, so i think it counts.
BTW, Buddy Holly may very well have been the biggest chart hit for Weezer if it hadn't been that Billboard didn't count songs that weren't released as physical singles back then. It peaked at #18 on the radio charts.
You should do this but for albums
I think None shall pass being Aesop rock’s biggest hit (according to spotify) absolutely checks out, it’s an amazing song that represents him perfectly, both in terms of sound and lyrics.
I've listened to One Dance a few times now, and every time I do it is because I have completely forgotten everything about it. Even now I genuinely have no clue what its like. Pretty much the music equivalent of wallpaper.
I never understood the hype. It’s literally Drake at his most safest and boring. I actually don’t like this song at all 😂
10:34 I always used to resent 7 rings not because of the actual quality of the song, but the sheer fact that a lot people genuinely only know Ariana Grande from that song. It’s insane.
If she should be defined by any song, her as an artist, her talent, her sound, and her as a human, tracks like Get Well Soon, Leave me Lonely, My Hair, POV, and Imagine definitely define her sound more than 7 rings ever did.
I’m terms of albums, Positions, Sweetener, and Dangerous woman define her sound the best
Can you do Mazzy Star if you ever do a third part?
Heart-Shaped Box is Nirvana's best song when you look at the lyrics
I wouldn’t say best song, but I think either that or In Bloom is their best hit.
Lithium.
"I'm inside Daisy's heart-shaped box."
Come As You Are
We need a part 3 now
With Green Day?
@@sonicandknuckles224 The Strokes
If you do another one of these you should definitely include SOAD in it
PLZ do the rock charts for part 3
Those words on Bob iver are perfect
as a big arianator i absolutely agree with your opinion about 7 rings, its not her best song and it doesn't represent Ariana as an artist the best, i think songs like into you one last time god is a woman greedy and no tears left to cry repersent her way better, because they are pop and r&b which are her usual generes she's known for, and because they represent her really well as pop singer, the problem with 7 rings is that it makes Ariana look like a rapper while she's not one. Also she usualy makes songs about love and not about money so 7 rings just seems wierd on first listen to me, now i like this song but when i listened to it for the first time it felt wierd
breathin or into you should be the best
I don't know which song of Coldplay is considered their most famous. Maybe "A Sky Full Of Stars"? To me, "Something just like this" isn't a Coldplay song. I don't even know how much influence the band Coldplay had in the creation of the song. It sounds like a typical Chainsmokers song (of that time). I guess that somehow the band's name ended up as a feature guest although it's just Chris Martin singing.
Same goes somehow for "A Sky full of Stars". It is a Avicii production with Chris Martin vocals and who knows how much input from the rest of the band but for whatever reasons, they decided to keep Avicii's name out of the releases' name.
Hymn for the weekend
Hey Alfo Media, now that the 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards are coming up, can you please make a video about the nominations?
Thank You. ❤
I won't let the "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2" slander!
get lucky sucks. i will put it on if I need a good sleep
as someone who doesn't listen to weezer a lot, i'd definitely say i know island in the sun the most
an example i thought about from the first part: change by deftones is a great representation of the band, its an amazing song, and its easily in their top 5.
Makes me wonder about record labels that had a hit and weren’t ready or able to capitalise on that success like sub pop
I’ve adored beabadoobee’s music for YEARS!!! thank you for talking about her!!
Blur - Song 2 for part 3, please?
i’d love to see imagine dragons if you make a part 3
I still gotta see a part 3 with Kanye and Kendrick
whyyyy did your boygenius video get taken down? i thought it was sooo good!
i saw it and planned to watch it later, then i forgot about it and now i remembered and saw it wasn't there
I think it was cause of that pretty bad line in the middle, the thing his friend said. Was kinda unneeded.
ppl hella overreacted and failed to understand the point being conveyed with gentle humor
@@boomeradley8748 idk, if people from that community and out say it’s probably not the best thing to say, you should probably listen. Plus, it was extremely mean spirited, have watched like 90% of his videos and he usually is never this mean to the artists.
@@mocapcow2933 what was the bad line?
Mentioning Pharrell but not Nile Rodgers for get lucky feels illegal to me. He’s one of the best and most influential guitarists of all time
If you ever make a third part, I would highly recommend the inclusion of "Glass Animals 'Heat Waves'".
Glass Animal's three Albums are all extremely good and fun to listen to, but for some reason, their by faaar biggest hit is "Heat Waves" (Around 85% more streams on Spotify than their second biggest track).
I can definitely see its catchiness and radio playability (idk if that's still a thing). Still, I would argue that almost EVERY other Song they've ever made is more creative, original, meaningful and, at least for me, more fun to listen to.
Whenever I tell somebody about Glass Animals, it's like: "Ah, Heat Waves band, right?"
Super annoying.1xl
It’s because of Fifa
One of the most interesting bands for me on this matter is A-ha.
Is “Take on Me” good? Sure
Is it representative of most of a-ha? Not as much.
Is it one of their best? No. And further, it was so extremely big and more popular than any of their other songs than some of their later great to exceptional work.
Also, similar to how you mentioned pink floyd, think of Yes and Genesis who also had one hit way bigger than the others that aren’t representative of their best work (although, some might argue that Owner of a Lonely Heart is still one of Yes’s best)
I’m so glad you mentioned Beabadoobee. she deserves all the attention in the world. I’ve been a fan since she first started and watched her grow into the musician she is now. Plus, she’s on tour with Taylor swift, so that will help introduce her to a new group of fans.
Are you sure another brick in the wall part 2 was Pink Floyd's only hit in the US and UK, because pink Floyd has other hits like "see Emily play" and "money"
His Pink Floyd analysis was rough, when looking at a band from the album era (especially THE quintessential band from that era) you can’t really judge them based on songs. The reason Another brick pt 2 is a hit is because after Syd Barrett left the band switched to long form songs that did not translate to marketable singles. An album like dark side or WYWH have single like moments but the albums were anchored by the sum of its parts. Dark Side is one of the most successful albums of all time but you don’t see it’s tracks topping any singles charts.
Only #1 hit he meant probably
Do nickleback next
Say it ain’t so is so excellent
Drakes biggest hit is actually gods plan. One dance has a bit more streams on Spotify but gods plan is the most streamed song in Apple Music history and has more streams on RUclips too. Gods plan is 15x platinum in the US alone where one dance is 10x. Overall they are pretty close but I’d still say gods plan is his biggest song.
Pleeease include Oasis and Nirvana this time
I like the song death bed by puefu and beabadoobee
Implying that Positions is q better song than 7 Rings is pretty wild
Pause whoa whoa I love Travis Scott and I love sicko mode but nothing can top 90210 and it’s out of his debut album, great song check it out
I’m also pretty sure that goosebumps is his biggest song
While Drop Dead Cynical by Amaranthe is a certified bop, perfectly in line with the rest of their discography, I hesitate to call it their best. As a hybrid metal band that covers a wide variety of genres, picking a “best song” is pretty difficult. I’d personally pick Fearless, it’s energetic chorus combined with the epic instrumentals show off what Amaranthe is at its core. It highlights the three vocalists doing some of there best work and the instrumentation is off the charts. I’d highly recommend checking it out.
here after they released "Damnation Flame" and that might be their best song so far tbh...
@@LezbeOswald it’s definitely amazing
In Part 3 Do Green Day
I love beabadoobee and can’t wait to see where her career goss
Sicko mode is fucking great!
I had an argument with a friend many years ago about this subject, the smiths most popular song is "How soon is now?" but it's not representative at all.
Arctic Monkeys- either I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor (my choice) or Do I Wanna Know? In terms of popularity
I think your comments on Something Just Like This can be explained by just realizing that it's a Chainsmokers collaboration. Also I'm not familiar enough with Coldplay to know that if it really caused their later projects to dip in quality like you made it sound, so it would be nice to get a clarification on what you mean.
I love bea
I kinda disagree with Get Lucky being a good representation of Daft Punk. It's an absolute banger but compared to their other big songs (One More Time, HBFS, Digital Love, etc) it has a very different sound to it, mainly because of Pharrell.
I like Coldplay’s EDM stuff tbh…
No LORDE?
Interesting you say "Something Just Like This' is Coldplay's biggest song. I'm not a Coldplay fan but I've never heard that song before - I'd say Yellow and Viva la Vida are way bigger. Maybe it's because I'm from the UK and it's different in the States?
It was big in the US but nowhere near as big as yellow or viva la Vida lol
it has a gazillion streams and views and I never heard it on radio or twitter
I'd like to see King Gizzard eventually featured in this just to see if anything can get a yellow in Representative
Been listening to travis scott lately. Rodeo is generally regarded as his best work but honestly astroworld has some his best songs by far. Stargazing is so good. Sicko mode is definitely not the best song on that album but its by far the most popular. No bystanders is better than sicko mode by a lot.
I feel an example of one of their worst songs being their most succesful comercially is Björk's It's oh so quiet. It would be red in the second and third categories, maybe green or yellow in the first.
Kendrick: Humble
Good? Yes
Representative? No
One of his best? In the middle
I would thought Drake biggest song was gods plan

Not proud
What's the Beatles biggest song?I don't think anyone know
praying coldplay is in here
I kinda wanna see some people like Ava Max, Bebe Rexha and Lana Del Ray
One dance is definitely not drake's most popular song, god's plan? Hotline bling?
dude, you thinkin bout you is top 3 frank
pls do x
Lorde, Lana
I'm sorry but how is Another Brick in the Wall not representative or even one of their best. I do think it is one of their best and it is great in the context of The Wall.
It's great in context, but it can in no way compare to some of their more ambitious tracks (such as the ones listed in this video). It's an amazing song, but it's really just a good, short pop song with a groovy disco beat and doesn't offer as much musical or thematic exploration as others.
You don’t think Get Lucky is one of Daft Punk’s best?
Genuine songs like "yellow".... I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt but I'm doubting more than I should be...
I came into this comment section to state that Wheezers biggest song is "Teenage Dirtbag". I realized my mistake before starting to type but I still felt inclined to share. That's all.
Beabadoobees Coffee (acoustic) is so much better

I love your channel, man, but am i wrong for getting annoyed at some of the edits? Jumping straight from the end of a segment into the next like it's in the middle of a sentence feels really jarring. Maybe im just old.
could you give an example of what you mean? I get that it's not super spaced out but I didn't think any of them seemed like they were cutting in the middle of a sentence
@@AlfoMedia I noticed that a few times too tbh. Could be an issue with pacing or a lack of any transitions
@@AlfoMedia Sure, no problem. Going from Daft Punk to SZA for instance, or SZA into Doja Cat, or Doja into Beabadoobee. Adding a tiny bit more space would make it sound more natural imo. Even just 500ms can make a huge difference. You're doing a great job, and there's A LOT of channels that completely ignore natural speaking-flow in their edits. Some channels I never know when they reach the end of a sentence lol. But it's hard, esp if you do your own editing, and I get the fear of people clicking off your video if the pacing isn't quick enough.
