    Another clear and concise lesson for us novices.
    I've found recognising the chord patterns on someone playing a ukulele can be tricky, depending which model they're playing as you'd be aware, when the tuning can differ e.g. concert to baritone.Thanks Vince

    • @stephencoxbass
      @stephencoxbass  3 года назад

      You're welcome! Baritone is tuned differently, so the chord shapes are a 4th below the notes they would be on concert/soprano/tenor if I'm not mistaken. I hope that plus the info in this video helps. Cheers!

    Thank you so much for this well done video. You explain it very good and this is exactly what I have been looking for. Your videos are excellent. Can you tell me on this video are you playing the Kala Journeyman acoustically or through and amplifier? I decided to subscribe to your channel after this video. Your presentation is on spot. Thank you.

      This is acoustically! I used the Journeyman since the flat wounds project better than the rubber strings.

      Do you mean people that weren't sure what they were playing? I'm thinking of making a series of videos on how to recognize what guitar, piano, and ukulele players are doing, and how to start playing along by recognizing chords and strum patterns. Knowing a tiny bit about each chordal instrument makes it a bit easier to know what to play. Cheers!

    The fact that you can play that pattern on any note and make a scale is so much easier than instruments like saxophone. Wtf I'm shook

    • @stephencoxbass
      @stephencoxbass  2 года назад

      In some ways it's a blessing and a curse. A lot of bass players get these patterns down and decide not to learn the notes past the 5th fret. Thanks for watching!

    Stephen, thanks for your videos , full of key tips and very well explained. Just wanted to ask you a weird question. I’m learning bass guitar and I would say that I’m beginner moving to an intermediate player, still a lot to be learned and I’m considering buying one of these, but I’m not sure if would help me develop my bass guitar skills or could be counterproductive since it’s much lower scale compared to a full scale ass guitar. I’m asking this because one of the most challenging parts of learning bass guitar was to have the flexibility and dexterity to move the fingers through the fretboard and I’m still working in that part every day, so adding a lower scale ubass to practice not sue would be of benefit for my learning process, even though I love them!. Not sure I explained my self.

    • @stephencoxbass
      @stephencoxbass  4 года назад +1

      I think you should definitely continue to play both. If dexterity and stretching is the hard part, U-bass won't hinder you on that unless you stop playing your full scale bass. If you have enough time to practice both, you will be fine! Cheers!

    • @stephencoxbass
      @stephencoxbass  4 года назад +1

      Summary: practice more on the full scale, and play the U-bass for fun.

    Hi, do you think there is enough space in the bridges holes to set up a B E A D set of strings on it?

    • @stephencoxbass
      @stephencoxbass  4 года назад

      I honestly don't know the answer to this. You could always widen the holes, I suppose, but they might be...ask someone at Kala.

    • @akallons
      @akallons 4 года назад

      Hi thanks for the reply! Actually I acquired a fretted one recently but abandoned the idea. I noticed terrible intonation when using stock strings. Aquila thunderblacks improved overall intonation except for the A string... This is really annoying! The bass definitely requires an adjustable bridge actually

    • @stephencoxbass
      @stephencoxbass  4 года назад

      @@akallons Maybe they'll make one one day. The problem is the type of pickup they are using would probably have to change for an adjustable bridge.

    • @akallons
      @akallons 4 года назад

      @@stephencoxbass Yes sure, it is just a small piece sitting on a pre-curved space in the wood! I am a guitarist and I am used to being perfectionist on intonation and other setting haha! However I noticed human ears to be a tad more indulgent on un perfect intonation for bass frequencies but still! When COVID will disappear, I'll go to a luthier to fix that. This is quite a mess in France!

    This was really great. I became a patreon today. Off topic question: Is the Ubass a good starter instrument for a child? And at what age would you try to get a child to learn how to play bass and guitar? I got put on a full size guitar at 10 and that just made me fear and hate it because of the size. I'm not gonna continue that tradition.

    • @stephencoxbass

      I know that when I was teaching drums, but had one in the room, a 6 year old student of mine loved it. The rubber strings are much easier to push down, and kind of fun since they are like rubber bands. I think 5 or 6 years old is realistic with the right teacher, but let them have fun with it and not force too much too quickly. Also, ukulele has gone over well for younger students that were interested in guitar in my experience.
