Stay tunes as there are more videos coming from Western Serbia including the Šargan Eight railway, and Bajina Bašta! *What did you think of Komplet Lepinja and the fortress*? Lastly, a huge thank you to Iva, one of my English students for telling me all about the food and to Igor from Belgrade Eats for translating for me!

Well, that's pro cinematics , nice cuts and interesting narration.
I wander who is a city Mayor , because public places needs refurbishing like... yesterday.
Interesting about Uzice is that I expereanced uncommon thing there, having in mind that it is a small town.
I was driving to a seaside with wife and daughter, and somewhere on a road from Cacak, our car brakes started to fade out ! Now, I stopped at a car service and garage at the entrance of Uzice, ( on a left side, near a nice new hotel on a banks of Djetinja ) and turned out that metal piping for brake oil were hit and damaged , and in order to continue driving, it was needed to replace complete pipeline.
I was thinking that We will stay for days until it arrives, because it was very rare pipe for Cabrio car , not same as for same regular model.
But, service took my car and asked us to go for a lunch at nearby hotel. It was lunch time, anyway.
Well, it happens that in Uzice there are companies which produce copper pipes for breaking systems and they do it on demand.
I was called 3 hours later and informed that all is fixed and we can continue our drive to the seaside.
All done. And charged me , like ... 50 Euros.
Now, people of Uzice and surrounding are called Ere . Man from Uzice is Era. There are tons of folklore stories about Eras and in most of them , they are marked as smart and capable people.
What to say ? My experience is that it's all true.
My car would stay in garage in Belgrade for 3-4 days, but in Uzice , it's done while you are having a lunch and drinking your Digestive.

    • @davidostrowski679
      @davidostrowski679  3 года назад +4

I like you Goran. You always have interesting stories and information to offer! Your story reminds me very much of coming from London versus the sort of place my mother lives in the south west.
So many car related issues. I needed a replacement wing mirror once and the monosyllabic employee was adamant there were none in stock. I rifled through the drawer to find one myself. In smaller towns that wouldn't happen
Although once I needed my yearly MOT certificate and I knew it wouldn't pass, so a friend recommended a mechanic friend of his. I just paid him for the certificate. Corruption! Lol. That probably wouldn't happen in a small village!

What an absolute legend you are for making these videos and having such a profound understanding of everything local. Yes, Uzice is underrated (though we aren't really doing much to compete) and your video almost makes me sorry for constantly talking s*** about my hometown.
PS. The siege in question happened in early 1370's when a young but fiery Serb warlord who most likely built the little fortress (a small military outpost in fact) was chased down by a coalition of other Serb and Hungarian warlords who got fed up of the out of control young lord. During this chase, he was denied access in other fortresses and outposts of his - so he made the last stand in Uzice. The siege was ended by a fire (arrows), and a surrender, and the warlord was spared but blinded by lords and dukes who would later make the epic stand against Turkish invasion in the 1380's and 1390's. The blue flag you see in Uzice next to a national flag is a (fictional) Coat of Arms of this young Medieval lord.

I remember watching your Japan vlogs before I moved out here mate. Absolute inspiration! Still inspiring! I was in Tokyo November 2019 and saw the Mario cart convoy tearing through the streets. Looks like a lot of fun! It's definitely on my to do list.
Yeah, vaccines and travel is all a bit of a mess right now. Hope you can get it sorted out and just get back on the road. This whole pandemic is getting really boring. It's definitely a first world traveller mindset but I just want to get back on the road now!

Ingredients of "complet bun" - komplet lepinja:
That gravy you saw is the stuff dripping from the animal meat when baked. Just like your stake will make it's own gravy - but this stuff is collected and later frozen when you're baking large quantities. It's awesome, tho sometimes there can be a bit more fat. Easily recognisable - this fat will stay on top, gray, while the good stuff is deep, dark brown and settles on the bottom. You can't buy a jar of "only the good stuff" because even the good stuff isn't good without some fat. It's just that too much fat will taste like.... fat. If there's more brown than gray, it's good quality.
"Kajmak" is a dairy product, similar to every other cream made out of milk, only salty. It's one of the oldest ways to make something like that out of milk. Each time you cook your daily milk for example 100l of milk, in the end you just collect the "pancake" of milk fat that accumulated. You throw it on a plate and spread some salt around. Repeat every day until you have a bunch of kajmak. It doesn't taste good first few days, than it's awesome for like few weeks, while it's "young" than it becomes yellowish, some people prefer it in this period.
When you smear these two into the bun, you break an egg directly in it and mix it all together.
Needless to say it's a calorie bomb, myself, being from Uzice, would recommend some other places than the one advertised in this video, because I don't like my fingers oily from this, some other guys make it with less fatty gravy and generally easier on the stomach. But the way those guys do it (in this video) is more traditional.
Btw, from whatever reason, this thing is made only in Uzice, you can't order it anywhere in Serbia, people don't know how to make it right. Btw2 - it is awesome, when done right.
