I like this ending better than some cheesy story of their love somehow making his heart work. If Jack hadn't thrown the key away, he might have lived, but he still wouldn't be able to be with Acacia. She still would have left him so she wouldn't be the cause of his death. He knew that would happen, so he threw the key away. He didn't want to live his life without her, he'd rather be with her for one more minute and die the next than move on. And since Acacia didn't want to be with him because she didn't want to kill him, he killed himself.
This is the scene that made me cry when I first saw the movie. Something just clicked in my mind like "Wait wait no Jack don't climb those snowflakes!" But then I decided that it's a beautiful song nonetheless.
I loved this a lot. My favorite part was the Jack the ripper part in the train because I didn't get it till later. It was the OHHH, I see now kind of thing. At the time it seemed so random but in the end, it tied up well. (Spoilers) Jack the ripper was just a symbol for his mother's death because she couldn't have children and now her only son had to leave her. In a way, love killed her. She died from a broken heart. I believe Jack's gears were frozen, it wouldn't have been possible for her to wind it back up. He chose to let his final moment be the kiss because he didn't want her to fail and feel that in the end she killed him. He thought it was poetic that he'd die for her but she thought she was selfish because she didn't want to be a murderer, I literally clapped because she spoke with sense but I understood Jack part as well though. Just this was beautiful done
I finished watching this last night and I was crying at the end. In the English version, all I could think was "Eponine was reborn into another life after the French Revolution and found a love that wasn't one-sided, only to lose it once again." Because Samantha Barks of Les Mis fame was in this movie is pretty much why that had been my last thought.
The contrast between being dead in a cold grave with the romance of building a hammock in the sky with the one you love makes this song so special and a perfect close to this love story.
I remember when I first watched this movie I didn't know he was dead until he started climbing I was like wait he's dead noooo and I started crying so hard
Same!At first I was like wait where is he going? Why is everything Frozen?!??Then the movie ended and I was like wait he died?!?!That was the last moment he saw cause he broke the 3rd rule😭
oh dam sorry spoiler, yeah he decides to die and have one kiss with her than live and be with her forever but never be able to kiss or do anything, she even had the key to his heart and was going to fix him, dam idiot
He lost his "mother" and that girl hurt him more than anything. His mother was right. His life sucked. He was bullied for years. He lost the girl he was in love with TO his bully. He was done with life.
Depressed me and if he really wanted to be with Acacia why couldn't he have just let her wind his heart and that way Acacia wouldn't have to deal with the aftermath of his death.
If he didn't take responsibility for his own life she would never have kissed him she didn't want to be the reason his heart stopped when he threw away the key he said what happens is now my fault (not hers) and then he said kiss me taking any consequence as his doing and reliving acacia of any blame
Samwich +Chad Smith Just saw it, I loved the ending though. I love how the time stopped when they first met and it stopped again for a last time, like a bitter-sweet goodbye. Jack didnt die because his heart wasnt winded, he died because he kissed Acaria. The rule number 3 stated that Jack must not love, and so he couldn't. Throwing away a key is just a metaphor, as he said, what happens is now his fault, not Acaria. He chose to kiss her and die in happiness of love and being loved. Moreover, Im sure he felt guilty about the dead of his mother... Jack's dead is sad, but the dead of Madeleine is even beyond compare. I missed how Madeleine saved every little tear of everyone around her, even the cat (She mentioned it's a cure, right? maybe for Jack, but we will never know as she died before finishing it). Her last tear drop in the bottle of sadness, I see in it the hope of a mother that her son will live, but also the despair that her son will never truly live. Also the last scene is genius, climbing the snowflake, how did no one think about that before? PS: Sorry if my english is hurting your brain. I knew my english wasnt good enough but I cant resist the urge to justify for the film :/ Anyway, I hope you now understand more about the film and give it the love it deserved.
Mark Dollery Thanks for the interpretation! I was confused after watching the film yesterday. Now reading this discussion, I got it and can't believe I've suddenly cried..
I HAVE A QUESTION! How old are they? *Looks back at the kissing scenes and wonders* Also why did the thing on Netflix say that this was for FUCKING 5 AND 7 YEAR OLDS?!
The Dislikes are from people who got their heart shattered beyond repair. All jokes aside the ending of this movie honestly broke me for while and it still feels weird to watch just the scene again but I love the song so much and I'm even almost finished with the book. XD
time stopped because his clock heart stopped ticking while kissing Acacia. So him climbing up to the sky, could imply his soul climbing up to heaven. :(
nonsensical01 I thought that's what it symbolized, but I would have just animated his spirit looking down on him and her kissing, while he slowly floated away. Would have been clear and just as impactful.
Oh look, the moment when my heART SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES!
Ikr
enough to make the tough weep rivers out their eyes

Time stops, just as his heart. He stops to touch her face one last time. He climbs, he doesn't look back.
This is the scene that made me cry when I first saw the movie. Something just clicked in my mind like "Wait wait no Jack don't climb those snowflakes!" But then I decided that it's a beautiful song nonetheless.
True love has died in our world replaced by temporary lust.
The ending is so sad and unfair.. but movies like this reminds as that life is unfair and it isnt a fairy tale which has always a happy end..
Honestly, I when he pulled away and looked warmer I thought the kiss fixed him some how. BUT NOPE HE WAS FREAKIN DEAD
I was expecting it to turn to spring, and his heart to keep working.
I thought that they were going to put his frozen heart back in and their love would melt it.
Cotton Moth I think when he died it stopped time because his clock heart is like...*head exploded*

Jack’s mother didn’t want Jack or at least in book it says it. In the book Madeleine guest pregnancy were unwanted or prostitutes 😬
There are very few movies that have touched my heart. This one destroyed mine! I was sobbing like a little baby at the end! :(
I finished watching this last night and I was crying at the end. ***** OHMYGOSH WHY DID YOU DO THIS? I LOVE THIS IDEA, THOUGH.
Wow, that's a profound thought.
As soon as I heard Samantha's voice I thought of Eponine. She was reborn and found her own Marius! ❤️😭😭
I wish they had the sound track in English
The contrast between being dead in a cold grave with the romance of building a hammock in the sky with the one you love makes this song so special and a perfect close to this love story.
omg every time i hear it i cry ;c
Only people with emotions do this. :P
LeWildPhilosopher captain here, only people with tear duct will do this
gukujo jo No there are people who have tear ducts (obviously) that wouldn't cry to this. Sorry but you're wrong!
I love having no feelings. :)
Me too
This is the best animated movie I have ever seen. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I remember when I first watched this movie I didn't know he was dead until he started climbing I was like wait he's dead noooo and I started crying so hard

Me watching this on Netflix: Thanks for recommending this, you monster.
Jack.
Stop.
What are you doing.
This defies everything I've learned.
_STOP_
no no no no, bad ending, horrible ending, why did you kill him :( dammit man, why do they always kill them off
I agree!! So sad :(
oh dam sorry spoiler, yeah he decides to die and have one kiss with her than live and be with her forever but never be able to kiss or do anything, she even had the key to his heart and was going to fix him, dam idiot
***** y'all obviously don't get it
please explain
He lost his "mother" and that girl hurt him more than anything. His mother was right. His life sucked. He was bullied for years. He lost the girl he was in love with TO his bully.
He was done with life.
The most BEAUTIFUL ENDING but yet SO UNFAIR
fair enough to be sad and enough to make a grown man cry
Depressed me and if he really wanted to be with Acacia why couldn't he have just let her wind his heart and that way Acacia wouldn't have to deal with the aftermath of his death.
I'm crying so much
It'll be so funny if he just fell down and the music stops
This movie broke me.
This is a new masterpiece that I've watch so far. It is on par with Tim Burton's dark romance films.
i cried a lot uhhh i wish he didn't die :c
Such a sad ending. I hated it. I wanted Jack to let Acacia wind his heart. His decision made no sense to me, and ruined the film for me.
If he didn't take responsibility for his own life she would never have kissed him she didn't want to be the reason his heart stopped when he threw away the key he said what happens is now my fault (not hers) and then he said kiss me taking any consequence as his doing and reliving acacia of any blame
Time stood still because he died climbing the sky was just symbolic
Mark Dollery almost like being stuck in the perfect bitter sweet moment isn't it
Samwich +Chad Smith Just saw it, I loved the ending though. I love how the time stopped when they first met and it stopped again for a last time, like a bitter-sweet goodbye. The girl is just like

I HAVE A QUESTION! How old are they? *Looks back at the kissing scenes and wonders* Also why did the thing on Netflix say that this was for FUCKING 5 AND 7 YEAR OLDS?!
I like more this version....Are singing Samantha Barks and Orlando Seale :´)
The Dislikes are from people who got their heart shattered beyond repair.
All jokes aside the ending of this movie honestly broke me for while and it still feels weird to watch just the scene again but I love the song so much and I'm even almost finished with the book. XD
the song after this is so much better the cactus heart one!!!!
i don,t like this ending because it made me cry

Why jack😭
I love this love story.
H
still i dont understand the ending...yes, he decide to take any responcibility by his self..
but did climb to sky mean he's death?
