One of the things that really hit me was when the Troupe were looking for Sarasa, how optimistic Uvo was that she was ok. Definitely reminded me of how Gon was when he convinced himself that Kite was alive.
I can see why Nobunaga was so drawn to him after Uvo’s death.

Probably wouldn't care at all, but the idea of them remembering the kid who Paku wanted to thank throwing away his life for revenge just like the PT might have is just very softly crushing to me

One thing I’ve been wondering about for ages is why Chrollo’s reaction to Shalnark and Kortopi’s deaths was more pronounced than to Pakunoda and Uvogin’s. And I figured it was because Chrollo connected the dots and realized the latter two’s deaths were thanks to Hisoka, which made the former’s worse. Well, I think that still plays a role, but it’s also possible that once Chrollo knew Kurapika’s motive, it became understandable. Not forgivable or allowable by any means, but it made sense and was fair. Meanwhile, Hisoka is out here brutalizing the Troupe and *putting their bodies on display* for a trivial reason, just like Sarasa’s killers.
Edit: I should note that he never saw Chrollo’s reaction to Pakunoda’s death. But he’s clearly functioning pretty well up until Shal and Kortopi’s deaths.

Pakunoda sacrificed herself to protect the Troupe. Uvogin died trying to restore his wounded pride and they created their symphony of death with the various mafia forces.
Shalnark and Kortopi were killed brutally and suddenly for Hisoka's fun/vengeance, and because CHROLLO had them help him defeat Hisoka in the first place.
So with Shalnark and Kortopi, it's not only personal, but Chrollo hates himself because he caused their deaths with his battle plan.
Also, Hisoka doesn't butcher innocents for fun... but Tserreidnich does.

The u.s. and mexican government work with traffickers. Sad, but the real world is just as gruesome. If the u.s. truly cared, they'd label cartels and human traffickers as terrorists and easily destroy them all in a year's time tops by using the military. They can most likely track all their locations with satellites too. The technology is there, but they don't care. Under Biden for instance, 85k/350k unaccompanied children under the government's watch (i.e. the kids and government workers made contact) were trafficked. It's so obvious which side they are on.

Amongst the large number of things that happened in this chapter to mull over, I really appreciate that Togashi did not show any of the characters unlocking aura and having a "super saiyan" moment in the forest. Instead he allowed us to fully absorb and respect the tragedy that was Sarasa's abduction and painful lonely scary and horrific death. And then he gave us (and the troupe) a quiet peaceful and actually pleasant moment where we could all say good bye to this little girl. Unlike pretty much every other anime that uses a tragic death of a close one to provoke a transformation, Togashi puts a distance between the tragedy and the transformation. This ensures that the transformation does not eclipse the tragedy and then in many ways cheapen the death. But he also allows us to see the transformation as not one forcibly placed onto a character in some contrived melodramatic fashion... but as a CHOICE. Their abilities will be inspired from this moment but not in a blast of mindless emotion. Rather, to be deliberately crafted after reflection on what this moment meant to them. Am I the only one that sees Machi's threads as a tragedy now? I mean, she doesn't create a power to PREVENT death, or to PROTECT people from harm. Instead just one to fix people up AFTER death and harm happen. Almost like she has already, at such a young age, resigned herself to the fact that kids and friends will be hurt and killed and there is nothing she can do to stop it. but at least there may be something she can do to put some of the pieces back to together after they are broken. I guess that is a result of all these poor kids growing up in Meteor City where they have already witnessed so much tragedy and are already treated like nameless trash. Chrollo clearly shows us he understands what he is doing too, that he is choosing to be the villain, what that means, he will be killing many people, how he will do it, creating a "safe haven" for criminals (promoting large volumes of evil to capture one monster/group of monsters). He chooses to walk this path in the calm after the storm and not screaming at the sky after opening the garbage bag. Then, Togashi also shows every other troupe member making a choice of their own. No one is forced into this unknowingly. No one is in a frenzied soul destroyed state. Still sad, yes, but calm and with their wits about them. They all make a choice. Sheila leaves. No one stops her or makes her feel bad about it. All the troupe members raise their hands (Machi half rose her hand... fitting? Maybe a sign that she agrees with the part about finding Sarasa's killers and not forgiving them, but does not believe that Chrollo, or anyone, can prevent this from ever happening again?). Ugovin's choice is perhaps one of the most interesting (and beautifully illustrated). He does not need to choose to be a villain in this moment. He already chose that. I am not saying he is a one dimensional meathead. He is not. But he clearly has been on the "thug" side of this life and embraces villainous roles stating his goal is to be the world's greatest villain earlier already. His choice was NOT about walking a path of villainy like Chrollo was asking the other kids to do. His choice was to give up leadership to Chrollo. Something he was not willing to do before. He was the king of his trash heap. He wanted to boss everyone else around. It was "his" tape. HE would be the villain even after the slam dunk performance Chrollo just did. But now. When Chrollo asked him to be the leader.... Ugovin chose to follow Chrollo.
I am constantly amazed by how well Togashi writes stories and characters.

Love the points you make in this comment! Togashi’s ability to craft a realistic portrayal of grief and giving his characters the CHOICE to become “evil” instead of some half-baked power up from Sarasa’s death, was a great decision from a storytelling perspective. Even having Sheila leave and it never being brought up again was an amazing way to show that no one was forced in their decision. Completely agree with your points! In chapter 95, Neon's father, Nostrade, tells Kurapika that the most important thing in this world is information, and those who has information about the future, is the ones that has the power to rule the world. And when Nostrade is saying this to Kurapika, has a panel that shows the space. In chapter 387 when Tserriednich get how his ability works, he says that with this power he will be able to dominate the world, and in this moment has a panel of the space too. For me, what Nostrade tell Kurapika, was like a warning, like: you better work for me, because you don't wanna be my enemy, cause I have the power to see the future (referring to his daughter power), and that was Togashi hinting that the final enemy of Kurapika was gonna have the power to see the future, and this person is Tserriednich.
In chapter 397 Chrollo says that will create a place(site) in the internet, that at that time was in development to be available to all people in the world, and this site would be for people that consider what those fuckers did to Sarasa, as "art". This site it would be basically a trap, where they would be able to find out who did those things to Sarasa, when they shares the video that they recorded on the site. That is what I think the name of "spiders" mean, they were like people who created a "spider web" (the site) waiting for they preys fall for it.
In chapter 343 Mizaistom tells Kurapika about a site in the dark web, that is a place for people that like these types of things, like body parts, dead bodys etc. people who think that these things are "art". And was in this site that Tserriednich share a video of the Kurta clan eyes that he posses.
In chapter 345, we see a guy that works for Tserriednich, that keeps bringing him womens. In this same chapter Tserriednich himself says what he do with these womens: "if I'm skinning pigs and monkeys, it's just dissection. what I seek is art produced by youth with a future put in an extreme situation. a synthesis of the arts ."
If you are not dumb, you get that this is basically what those fuckers did to Sarasa.
In chapter 348 in Tserriednich's room, we see a guy making a tattoo on a women, and this guy has a lot of tattoos himself. In chapter 394 Tserriednich's soldiers says that these tattoo artist guy was a Heil-ly family's member. In chapter 395, in the last page of the chapter, we see the guys that are kidnapping kids in Meteor City, and one of the guys looks identically Tserriednich's tattoo artist guy from chapter 348, even the tattoos looks identically. In chapter 394, we know from Tserriednich's soldiers, that Tserriednich is evil since he was young.
In chapter 397 Chrollo says that those fuckers recorded what they did to Sarasa, and they consider what they did as "art". We know from Tserriednich's himself that he likes that too, and not only he likes, but also, he do these things with a lot of womens as is was a normal day routine, and he calls this "art".
The tattoo guy, was one of the guys that did that to Sarasa, and he at that time probably knew that Tserriednich likes that type of things. Those guys probably sell to Tserriednich the video footage of what they did to Sarasa.
In other words, Kurapika already knows about the Kurta eyes in Tserriednich's possession, but he still doesn't know about Pairo's head.
Tserriednich probably has the tape with the footage of what those guys did to Sarasa.
When Kurapika see Pairo's head, and Chrollo sees the video of Sarasa with Tserriednich, they both will enter in rage mode, and they will go "berserk" against Tserriednich to kill him.
Of course, probably because of the resentment that both has against each other, and how both killed people important to each other, I doubt that they will make a strategy together to take down Tserriednich. But, they both will go at the same time to kill Tserriednich, and during the battle they will see that will have to at least put aside they hate against each others for a moment, and work together to defeat Tserriednich.

This chapter is amazing. The following only occured to me while watching your video: cutting somebody up like this, then setting up the remains in this way, delighting in the pain it both did and would cause, this sounds exactly like Tserriednich. It wouldn't make much sense for Togashi to create a flashback this well... 'impressive' unless it was to setup a crucial payoff in the succession war. Togashi has been setting Tserriednich up as an near undefeatable nen user, similar to Meruem. One who can only be stopped while they are still relatively inexperienced - if then.
And then it hit me: Kurapika will team up with the spider to destroy Tserriednich. The phantom troop massacred the Curta clan to draw out the kind of people who would kill children in this way, and we can infer that Tserriednich was one of the people offering rewards for Curta eyes (as he owns quite a few). The spider's don't yet know he's Sarasa's killer. Uvo didn't even remember the Curta massacre. It was just part of the blind, unending violence they have been perpetuating ever since, to set a stage which would draw out Sarasa's killer. Just as all of Kurapika's actions are meant to place him in the path of such killers.
The spider and Kurapika share the same pain, they are acting against that pain in parallel ways and, if all this is correct, their pain has the same origin. Kurapika is exactly the kind of person who would see it this way. He has to kill Tserriednich to keep Wobble alive, but cannot do it alone. It all fits! And in the long time it took to write this, my mind is still blown :D
TL/DR: Theory: Tserriednich killed Sarasa. He's ultimately the reason Kurapika's clan got massacred. Kurapika will team up with the spider to destroy Tserriednich.

The spiders didn't kill the kurta clan, chrollo was just talking about how he'll use technology to create a terrifying image of the phantom troupe so that the Mafia will never come near meteor city to kidnap children, and he'll become a "villain", what probably happened is that the kurta were massacred by the Mafia, and since one of the phantom troupe's friends went to live with the kurta clan (we see her leaving in the end of the chapter and we know she's a childhood friend of kurapika) chrollo got worried and went to check on her, after finding that she died he probably wrote the message to hint that they did it. So kurapika has literally been helping the real ones that killed his people (the Mafia). That also would explain why when kurapika asked if uvogin remembered killing them uvogin didn't know who he was talking about.

Whether he was actually present or not, if it was something that he had directly ordered his subordinates to do, or just something they enjoyed doing on their own (either by influence of the prince's twisted mentality, or just being twisted themselves and thus making for perfect employees of the prince), that could still be a way for the responsibility of Sarasa's murder AND indirectly the genocide of the Kurta clan to both fall on Tserriednich. I think this chapter gives us clues on how chrollo came up with his bandits secret ability, literally stealing the secrets of any bandits lured to meteor city in his trap

What happened to your breakdown of Chapter 396, Liam? I was looking forward to it almost as much as the release of new HxH chapters. (This is my first ever comment on youtube btw, just so I can ask you hehe)
Anyway, I'm surprised that you did not theorize that the Phantom Troupe's story seems to be coming to a head with tjat of Tserriednich. Specially with the Chrollo mentioning the word "art" in relation to killing people.
Great breakdown btw. Please keep on making these contents. I, along with probably thousands other HxH fans, highly appreciate it from you as the preeminent HxH content youtuber.

Video Idea: Make a video explaining everything we know about Meteor City. I've watched the anime a long time ago and read the mange from where the anime ended, so there r a lot of details that I forgot/don't know

Not sure if this recent batch of chapters brought some creative inspiration out of you, but this is, in my personal opinion, one of your best HxH videos ever, especially the oft where you correlate the events of the past to who the troupe members are today. Well done

Sarasa's dëath has a lot in common with Tserriednich's victims. Would be crazy if Tserriednich's 1st mürder was Sarasa, then he contracted the Kurta Clan to bring him more victims. Kurta Clan starts taking kids from Meteor City. Phantom Troupe tracks down the Kurta, harvests their eyes, but realize they weren't responsible for Sarasa.

    • @MN-fw3tk
      @MN-fw3tk Год назад +7

The Kurta are isolated and reserved people. It's possible that they were framed, but I highly doubt that they had any direct involvement in the kidnappings. I didn't get that vibe from them at all in volume 0.

@M N that Kurta thought could be too much of a stretch, It just feels like the Phantom Troupe is taking a full-face turn before the fight(s) where members die.

holy crap that video was awesome! Even tho it's actually been a while now since the chapters came out, I still like to look back at them, since i am a sucker for the phantom troupe and espeically for Uvogin-
So at first it made me so happy to actually see him in the manga again but now watching this I do feel really physically ill- it's so godly written and it gives me goosebumpsall over my body. Espeically bc of the entire "they had to watch actual people getting murderd in order to find that tape"- It reminds me of the scene in which Kurapika asks Uvogin before their fight what he feels and thinks while killing innocent people and he just dryly answers "Nothing. Nothing at all"
    I have no words- dayum...

What really hit me is that exactly what happened to their friend years ago is what is happening now with Hisoka... essentially, a crazed madman is killing them off for no reason other than for the enjoyment of it...phantom troupe members fining their comrades killed and dismembered....brings new light to exactly how Chrollo is feeling about Hisoka

It all comes together, Togashi probably has seem some shit as he is writting about the hideous acts of humans for some 30 years.

Also I noticed that since they live in such extreme condition, they probably all have a negative view that there is no hero, hero is just a fantasy and everyone is evil to some extend, so villain is actually more of one of the things they go for since it makes sense.
