      Paul is a giant in the pop music world. Denny is a tse tse fly, an annoyance. No one would hire him after he left Moody Blues. No one wanted to work with him. After many years of nothing, Paul gave Denny a job touring with Wings and Linda. Denny needed money. Paul and Linda stepped out of the spot light for one song, Go Now. They even did background for Denny. After the tour, still, no band wanted to work with him. He had stolen "Go Now" from an unknown American soul singer, Bessie Banks, whose husband wrote the song for her. Denny never had another hit. Bessie never became known. Listen to her version.

      No, Denny never had another hit - he only co-wrote Mull of Kintyre which in 1977 became the biggest selling British single of all time. You have a very selective view of history. a poor singer won't have a hit with a decent song you have to earn it. Denny sang the backside of this tune and earned his due. The similarly good TV performance of Denny singing this song on YT (also from 1977) with an entirely different backing band is also very strong performance.@@jackmason4029

      @@SuperHardshell Linda Eastman was the love of his life, the mother of his children. They didn't want to be parted for a lengthy tour, so he put his wife in the band. She wasn't desperate. Denny Laine was desperate. No one would work with him and he was broke. Paul knew this and offered Denny a job for the tour. He was in no way a star. Paul gave him one solo to sing his one hit. Paul and Linda and Wings graciously backed him up. It was their tour, they were the stars. With Paul McCartney as your producer, and backup, don't you think you would sound good performing your only hit song. He was just some guy in the Moody's who badgered the others into doing an American song he found. After "Go Now" the group were not sorry to have him go. Now! (PS: Most people my age guffawed when The Moody Blues were inducted into the Hall of Fame. They were mediocre at best, their music was trite. Days of Future Past was hardly up to standards set by other artists.)

    • @jackmason4029
      @jackmason4029 Год назад

      Imagine having Paul's signature on your paycheck. It was generous for one song. Paul, Linda, and Wings didn't need Denny to make their tour triumphant. Denny needed them to stay out of the poor house. Paul was doing him a big favor by putting him to work. Denny was just some superfluous being backstage. Wings didn't need him. Paul didn't need him. They already had everything it takes to make an audience go crazy.

    Seen Wings in Chicago when Denny sang Go Now, I was blown away.. had no idea, at the time, he was in Wings, Go Now was always an all time favorite of mine it’s a Moody Blues classic, that show in Chicago was almost like attending a Beatles concert-Yesterday, Lady Madonna, Blackbird, Long & Winding Road and McCartney’s all time classic Maybe I’m Amazed .. what a show, what a memory

    Being part of the Birmingham music scene in the 60s we all knew each other and Denny Laine was one of the best singers around. I remember one time when my band was supporting the Moodies and I spotted him in the wings(no pun intended) during our set. When we came off he said 'I had to check you out---it sounded like you had a tuba player.' I was the bass player and had blown my speaker--hence the tuba-like noises! We had a good laugh about it. RIP Denny---you were a good bloke.

      Denny Laine was in a Beatles tribute show a year or two before he passed away he was on stage doing Beatles songs with Todd Rundgren Christopher Cross, Bad fingers Joey Molland, and Jason Sheff of Chicago...... Denny sang lead on Go now ,and also sang respectfully well handling the lead vocal on Band on the Run ...

    The best proof that Denny Laine is awesome? Singing a song with Paul McCartney as your backing vocalist. If such a legend is willing to be your sideman, even if it's just for one song, you rock.

    Denny singing Time To Hide was so badass that I kept it on repeat all day. Only then did I discover that it was Denny that I've been listening to for years and didn't know it. I love the Moody Blues and Wings.
