I also love Hepburn in Roman Holiday, but I think her best performance was in The Nun's Story. I think that the way the movie corresponds with her real life made it extra personal to Audrey.

Audrey Hepburn, when she lived in the Netherlands, had a close relationship with Anne Frank and her family. Anne’s father Otto Frank, even asked Audrey to play Anne Frank in a theatre play based on Anne Frank’s diary. The war however traumatized her so much that she never could, but in many of her lectures later in life Audrey would quote parts of Anne Frank’s diary

Oh wow, I read parts of that story when researching this video, but I never knew that Otto asked Hepburn to play Anne in a play. That’s fascinating and heartbreaking.

Great video! Would love to see more of these!! I watched spielberg’s Always last December. I can’t believe Mr. Spielberg had the chance to work with her. What an actress. One of my favorite fun facts is that she was a dear friend of Otto Frank and at one point may have been the one to play Anne in the Diary of Anne Frank. But she didn’t believe she could play her.
Roman Holiday is also probably my favorite of her films. It’s my mom’s favorite classic Hollywood film and she showed it to me when I was a kid. Instant classic! Even more so now that Wyler is one of my favorite directors from that era. My Fair Lady is another one I like and I recently saw Two for the Road. Charade, The Children’s Hour and Nun’s Story are definitely underrated too.

As always, thanks for commenting and sharing your thoughts! I have a lot of overlap with you, although I thought Two For the Road was just good, not great

I’m not sure if you’re seen Wait Until Dark but I bet you’d really like it!

@@whenthepicturesgotbigger Yeah Two for the Road is definitely not one of the best. But I did like the approach to the editing and flashbacks. Yep, I've seen Wait Until Dark! The only "major" ones from her filmography that I still haven't seen are Funny Face, Love in the Afternoon, Robin and Marian, and the Unforgiven.

Well, there's a reason James Woods has such a low opinion of the film industry: he's insufferable and no one likes him. Plus, a creep, by some accounts. Anyway, this is about Hepburn, not Gollum over there. I think her life was a triumph: she outlasted Hitler, so that was a huge W. Certainly a triumphant film career. You have good taste in Hepburn movies, lol! - I, too, am none too fond of "Tiffany's", preferring almost anything else. The ones you like best are the ones I like best. Especially Robin and Marian - and that one gets even better as you age, btw. Her work with UNICEF certainly set the standard for other celebs to follow, at least those who care to follow. I would've liked to see her live another decade, but she didn't die so young that it was a grievous thing (beyond dying of cancer itself, of course). I think her life can be summed up as overcoming adversity.

“Overcoming adversity” is a perfect summary of Hepburn! She was so graceful and triumphant (as you said, way more than James Woods, lol), and I wish more people were still aware of her honorable philanthropy and the adversity she overcame. And yay, finally someone who appreciates Robin and Marian! I look forward to rewatching that for many years to come

One of my dream jobs is becoming a film maker but I want to be an independent because I really don’t want work for Hollywood because like you said Hollywood may look nice on paper but in reality it’s a completely nightmare because of how restrained and corporate everything is.
Once again as usual your videos are top notch this channel really is a hidden gem and while I don’t agree with every review you post on Letterboxd I still like seeing post your reviews on both old and modern movies.

Hey Max, thank you for your comment, I always appreciate your kind words :) That’s a great dream to have honestly, and if you want to be an independent filmmaker you’d have a better chance of breaking in because everyone tends to want to be part of the studio system. So that’s wise. Thanks for your generous compliments again, and I wish you the best of luck on your filmmaking journey! Also lol thanks, I know sometimes my Letterboxd reviews are controversial haha.

@@whenthepicturesgotbigger Thanks though if my film directing career doesn’t take off I wouldn’t mind to also be a game developer because video games is an art form that has always fascinated me because of the ways it can tell stories while also being an immersive interactive experience in fact video games are particularly the reason why I love cinema because one of my favorite game series of all time is SEGA’s Yakuza series and those games have such good storytelling to the point that I wanted to start watching movies and studying them.
Regarding Letterboxd I wasn’t saying your reviews were bad I was just saying that there have been times where I watch a movie and ended up loving it and then I read your review and see you didn’t like it as much as I did and end up just respectfully disagreeing.

Yeah I think the path from video games to movies is going to be more and more prevalent in the future, because the art form that is gaming has evolved so much. I love video games too. There’s some great video essays on games here on RUclips! Also no worries about the Letterboxd comment haha, I totally get it!
