    In India, mantra meditation includes 5 steps:
    1) Repeat the mantra in a normal voice for several 20-minute sessions until no more distracting thoughts arise. Feel free to repeat faster to prevent other thoughts from entering your mind.
    2) Then repeat the mantra in a whisper for several session until it occupies your entire mind. Repeat faster if necessary.
    3) The mantra will then be repeated mentally as many times as necessary to occupy your full attention.
    4) If you mentally repeat your mantra each day as often as possible, it will eventually repeat itself automatically without any voluntary effort.
    5) Finally, the mantra will fade away and be replaced by a state of full awareness.
    But you can just apply step 1 for 5 minutes followed by step 3 for about 20 minutes. This should help you to hold the mantra mentally without being disturbed by any thoughts.

    1. Choose your mantra, a mantra is a very specific word or phrase (even a sound or a vibration) but with no meaning, ‘cause if you think about the meaning you can’t transcend, after you choose your mantra close your eyes.
    2. Repeating your mantra inside your head, silently.
    3. Doing it for 15-20 minutes twice a day, I recomend to do it after breakfast and one hour before the dinner.
    This is are the rules for transcendental meditation, so you can save your money from expensive and useless teachers. They said “It’s a very easy technique” or “anyone can do it”, so if anyone can do it, why I have to spend thousands of dollars? C’mon you can do it by yourself.

    I did a commercial TM course years ago and was advised to never reveal my unique given mantra sound or it would lose it’s power which sounded like a load of market protectionist hogwash. I doubted my mantra was unique too sorry to say. Wonderful, simple skill. Very easy to learn. The mantra sound I was given was a “shring” sound. Anyone else like to share theirs? Don’t worry it doesn’t lose it’s power. Just people trying to make money on something that should be free. “Vasa” in video above is another example. What sound do you like? Anyone use various or combos?

      I kinda see both sides on this. The idea of keeping your mantra private (or at least not talking about it) could be a good idea because you want to keep it meaningless. For example: You are on a date and begin talking about meditation, you share mantras, and from then on when you are trying to meditate you keep thinking about that date (because it now has an association).

      It's easy to get frustrated during meditation if you have specific expectations. It usually takes me about 10 minutes to stop getting interrupted with distracting thoughts and relax into the meditation. Some days are better and some are more difficult but if you take the time to just sit and keep your focus on the neutral mantra, it will give your mind a break and help build healthy habits.

      Maharishi Mahesh Yogi taught that Om was a mantra for recluses. If you use it in the most powerful way -- for transcendence -- it will cause you to move away from material things: relationships, job, money. Monks taught this to householders, because it's what was taught to them. It was all that they knew.

    I realized after a productive morning of starting the morning off with Noni juice, hot water and lemon, a workout, followed by stretches then some meditation (after weeks of laying in bed and being in my own thoughts and being on the verge of breaking down/slight depression), that something my pa used to say “motion creates emotion” is so true and after all of these things this morning the epiphany and (long version) mantra came to me “I will make a conscious effort to choose and try my best to be happy, to nurture myself and my body, physical health, mental and emotional health. But most of all to consciously make the effort to be at mental or emotional peace and to be as happy as I am able to be given the circumstances that I am in today. I may be in the middle of or coming out of a situational circumstance that may feel difficult, or it can be a regular day, but whatever it may be, I will actively make the choice to move and get myself up and do these things that will nurture my body and soul and mentally make the effort to take care of myself and to be happier (or at least more at peace if in a saddening circumstance).” I don’t know if some people may naturally be gifted with a happier mood on a daily basis (biologically), but I realized that for those of us like myself that may come from a past of many difficult circumstances which may have placed us in a more depressive or ruminative baseline, that happiness and the mindframe of happiness truly is kind of like a switch and a conscious effort that we can create for ourselves if we just really make the effort to mentally open that door and to try and place ourselves there (and more importantly to do the actions that will help bring us there and affirm that, such as healthier choices and meditation and forcing ourselves to get out of bed and nurture our health or workout/healthier eating/water etc, cause it won’t work if you mentally want positivity but your physical actions and choices are all things that are still destroying you whether it’s laying around or social media or drugs or alcohol etc, then that would just create more mental and emotional conflict). There really lies a lot of truth in wise old Dumbledores saying once in our beloved HP …”Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times. If only one remembers, to turn on the light” ❤ Happy Monday loves and head up :)

    • @HandsOnMeditation
      @HandsOnMeditation  3 года назад +11

      As your brain begins to relax, you may forget to say the mantra or it may become more quiet in your mind. Eventually, you may become very calm and not aware of any thoughts. That's good. If you get distracted and start thinking, go back to repeating the mantra.

    Hi. What if the mantra changes naturally in your mind and becomes something slightly different? Also once the mantra fades to nothing what should you concentrate on? The nothingness? Your breath? Or should you start the mantra up again?

    • @HandsOnMeditation
      @HandsOnMeditation  2 года назад +2

      Sometimes as you relax and begin to zone out, the mantra will fragment or start to fade away. You don't have to think of anything if your mind is calm. Just rest until you get distracted. When thoughts start to come back, begin your mantra again.

    Thank you. I have two questions. During meditation when repeating mantra, do I need to focus my inner gaze on any specific area? For example, the third eye chakra? Another question: if I feel calm and unthoughtful, can I stop repeating mantra and enjoy the calmness?

    • @HandsOnMeditation
      @HandsOnMeditation  2 года назад +9

      Good questions. The point of this meditation is to have no focus on anything. The mantra has no meaning and is only a simple blank task that is repeated so your mind has something neutral to do. Ideally you just tell your mind do nothing for a while and relax but that's not realistic. So repeat the mantra with as little focus on anything as possible and if you get to a calm state where you stop the mantra that's OK. Just use it to help you get there.

You just need to find one you are comfortable with and practice regularly. And yes, there are other calming meditation practices that just concentrate on breathing. You can try 4-7-8 Breathing ruclips.net/video/1Dv-ldGLnIY/видео.html or Box Breathing ruclips.net/video/RckZsDFiQjo/видео.html. Repeating the breath over and over is similar to using a mantra. @Little boots 2 Some of the examples I give in my resource drive.google.com/file/d/1ruwdHm-AXuLeCIUkiEMb3lIq86M_9VZw/view are Sanskrit but others are just made up sounds. For this form of meditation to be effective, you should choose a mantra sound that has no meaning to you and making up your own sound or choosing a word from a language you don't speak will work. Try not to even think of it as a word. It's just a neutral sound to you. And don't research the word because you'll eventually discover some connection someone has to it and then it will no longer be a neutral sound. That's why it can be helpful to have someone simply give you a mantra so you don't spend any time thinking about it.

  • @stephenm181

    After doing this for awhile I get to a point I am just alert and aware. Is it necessary to keep repeating the mantra at this point?

    • @HandsOnMeditation
      @HandsOnMeditation  3 года назад +2

      The goal is to reach a state of calmness where you can allow your mind to peacefully rest. You'll still be aware but present without judgement or reactions. You can't ever totally shut off your thoughts so the mantra gives your mind something simple to do. As you relax, you may naturally stop thinking of the mantra or it may become fragmented. That's ok. If thoughts or emotions begin to distract you, go back to softly focusing on repeating the mantra. Just spend as much time in the quiet calm mental state as possible and let your mind rest. It's very healthy and soothing.
