    Good vid! After you final sand a cutting board--and before you apply oil--give it a wipe with a cloth dampened with water. This stands up any remaining wood fibers laid flat by the sanding process. Allow the wood to dry for 20 minutes or so, and final hand sand with 320 to knock off the little pips. Blow/vacuum the dust from the wood, and then apply the oil. The difference is remarkable.

      Thank you for the comment, yes I always raise the grain with water and then a final sand before the oil.
      Agree it makes a huge difference.
      Cheers

    What did I tell you Andy.... Game changer... Laguna should get in touch with you and ask if they can use these three episodes as promotional vids... This will sell them loads of these machines. .. I have got 240 grit rolls from IGM in the Czech Republic (forget that, I think I dreamt it) but i pay about £30 for 25m rolls of 60, 80, 120, 150 and 180 grits from IGM. But you have to cut your own which is dead easy. I use 60grit 80 grit 120 grit 150grit and 180 grit depending what I am doing. I have used the 240grit but not often. When i hand sand with my Mirka Deros I go from120 through the grits to 240 and then raise the grain at 240 and let it dry and then sand at 240grit again... then I soak the board in mineral oil and re-apply mineral oil 2 more times and finish with my own board butter and polish to a finish. Again great video Andy. Cheers Paul

    Brilliant series of videos on the Super Max 16/32. Thank you! I have just purchased one for my craft woodworking business and watching your instructive introduction has filled in the many gaps in the out of date manual, making the set-up requirements clear and straightforward. Your videos should accompany all new machines. Like you my initial impression of the machine is that it is impressive and worth the investment - although the price has increased significantly since you purchased yours. So it's a very BIG thank you from me.

      Even after all this time this machine has never let me down, complete workhorse with consistently great results.
      Good luck with yours

    180 grit is the finest I found too. Just for reference for anyone reading, you can also use Jet paper as well as the Laguna, in fact all my current paper is for the Jet 16-32 but fits the Laguna 16-32 perfectly.

      Thanks Dave,
      Great feedback - didn’t realise you could use the Jet. That makes life easier a I think Axminster stock it.

      @@TheWoodgrafter Correct, that's where I get mine from, and it's not wonder it fits, as I understand it the guys who designed the Laguna are the same guys who designed the Jet, and the Laguna is just the next evolution (hence the handle etc).

      Perfect,
      Thank you - given that my local Axminster is 15 mins away - that is useful.

    I have had a Delta 16/32 for many years, which I have to admit that I rarely use. It operates by raising and lowering the feed belt and platform, which I viewed as less prone to error by keeping the motor in a stationary position. I now see where a fixed platform would be better where infeed/outfeed support comes in to play. That just never crossed my mind. Now, I see the light!

    • @TheWoodgrafter
      @TheWoodgrafter  3 года назад

      Hi,
      Yes it was one of those things I realised when I wanted to support some long stock on my thicknesses. It was a pain to keep re-adjusting the in and out feed supports.
      So a feature I definitely wanted on the sander.
      Cheers

      Thanks Andy. I made the comment as I read many woodworking forums and video comments. The problem seems to be that stock slips or stops on the conveyor belt and makes a real mess. This is not a snipe matter. There is very little information available on how best to overcome this problem when you get it or understand how it starts. Manufacturers don't seem to offer any help. Any help from you would be great. A video on how to set the roller tensioning etc and trying to unravel this would be a first. Could you get the manufacturer to help?
      Incidentally could you confirm the grit grade for your conveyor belt please?
      Many thanks and keep up with making great videos. Cheers Steve

    Great video again. Got a question re using a belt sender (previously) to flatten the cutting board. Wouldn't it be much less work doing that with a hand plane instead? Once the blocks are end-grain up, that won't work, but would be quite fast for the initial step?

    • @TheWoodgrafter
      @TheWoodgrafter  3 года назад

      Hi Michael,
      Yes you could use a hand plane, you do need to ensure that you have a very flat surface as you are going to joint it. So a very good test for the sander.
      It wouldn’t be much less work in this case as I made a bit of a botch on levelling the stock on the glue up. Had a few clamping issues.
      But if you get a good glue up then yep a hand plane would do the job.
      Cheers

    Great review, awesome results! But why is your cutting board not symmetrical? Was that intentional?

    • @louisgriffin1785
      @louisgriffin1785 2 года назад

      Oh I see it now that you oiled it - to maintain the offset you had to add the extra maple row…. Very cool! Doubt I would have caught that before assembly- obviously I didn’t! Great design!

  • @FuzzyScaredyCat
    @FuzzyScaredyCat 3 года назад

    Did you raise the grain and re-sand off camera before oiling?

    • @TheWoodgrafter
      @TheWoodgrafter  3 года назад +1

      Hi Andy,
      Yes - a quick wipe over with a damp cloth does the job. It also allows me to gauge the quality of the bird before I commit to the final finish.
      Then a light hand sand with 180 - to knock it down. I also hand sand between each oil coat as well.
      Cheers
