@@DorianBracht Hi Dorian, really like your work. Could you also highlight some applications for each of your joins, for instance which ones you would use for drawers, boxes, home building and carpentry etc
glue fails in your lifetime. As a result, a ceiling fell, that had used glue and nails, which was put up in the 70's (modernization, trying to hide high ceilings), and the ceiling fell in about 2000, or 2010. So, 30 or 40 years later, glue failed.
The one thing that always amazes me is, the ability to take a flat plane and make a round rod with it. I try and still get "flat" spots. Great video cheers :)

Hello, you seems to know a lot about japanese joinery. Can i ask you were you find draw / plan ? In France we got "le traité d'ébénisterie" from wich you can learn a lot. Does a similar book exist for japanese joint ? I already have some books but they are technicaly limited.
It's beautiful, I've been talking to a retired finish carpenter in my country france, he told me nowadays it was pretty difficult to make a living out of it with companies like ikea, carpenters cannot create a lot of things and a lot of them are forced to work with aluminium, joinery isn't used that much at least for him. Traditional carpentry looks like art though, and the more I read about it the more it seems interesting. Would you say it's still possible to live out of it if you start late ? mid twenties ? To end up doing things as pretty as you and others carpenters and basically have a job for life ?

Hello. First, I just want to say that you are very good at what you do and I am glad that there are people like you, especially in Europe. I have a question. Can you tell me, what is your opinion on the long european blade of chisels vs the short japanese blade? I have some cheap european chisels and would like to buy better quality, but not sure what to get and I can't test them before that.
Thanks! The european ones are also good. Chrome Vanadium i a tough steel that is very resistant to chipping excessively. They can also be made relatively sharp. You can also get old European chisels with blacksmith touchmarks. these usually have excellent carbon steel. Especially the swedish and old english ones.

Possibly the best woodworking I've seen on RUclips. That is dedication and beauty. Fantastic work.
Thank you!

You were missed! Good to see more of your work. :)
Thanks :)
Beautiful work. Shows what a productivity boost a planer-thicknesser and modern glue is!
haha
Hehehe, thanks :)

Is there a book on Japanese joinery you'd recommend containing these joints?
Meisterschaft & Meditation beim Zuschauen
Nice work !
Thank you :)
Why do I fixate so much on how wobbly the bench seems while rounding the column??? 🤪
Very glad to see more masterful joinery from Dorian. 🙏
Thank you!
Thank you! Yeah, got to retighten the bolts
Amazing...
Ich wüde mich sehr über ein Video zu einer 3-Weg Eckverbindung freuen! Da kann man ja nie genug Input bekommen! 🙂
Where would this be used?
Just...wow.
That Bachi Nomi chisel looks useful. I'm guessing that's what it is unless it's a Western style fishtail chisel
Yes, I use it so much. Even when I actually don't really need it 😅
Bravo
And this is how japanese carpenter invented the tree
Lol XD
Super!!!!!!
cool.
Why hammer the small wooden blocks?
To compress the fibers allowing it to get started easier.
@@verbnames does it expand back into the space making it tighter again?
@@jgo5707 It will with humidity changes. However it's not going to effect anything if it doesn't. That's why he just hit near the edge.

ok. where can it be useful?
Wen you need a column that is bigger than any tree you can source.

Ja, zum Beispiel in der Mittelsäule von mehrstöckigen Pagoden. Aber da sind die Dimensionen auch größer.

Hello

Now just dig an empty space inside this trunk and use it to store money. 😁😁😁
Not only are good tools expensive, then you gotta have a expensive space to do it. The struggle is real.
Das geht auch einfacher. Wer keine Arbeit hat, macht sich welche.
