Drink sometimes seemed to rule the war. Hostilities appeared virtually to stop on Friday and Saturday nights by mutual consent when the Terrs had their beer-drinks and the Rhodies were in their clubs respectively. I recall an order that crates of beer were not to be carried under the seats in the rear of MAPs because, although mine blast couldn't penetrate the armour, their concussion could still shatter Shumba and Castle bottles, lacerating everyone in the crew compartment's legs with glass shrapnel, which was a bugger for the medics to find. A senior officer, a notorious alcoholic, once came to my unit to award ten GSMs to the AS. I ran a dry camp due to a couple of deaths in alcohol-related incidents, so I used a drinks cabinet donated by "Coord-a-Nation" to store my maps. I will never forget the look of horror on his face when he threw open the drinks cabinet expecting a dop only to have maps of Mangwende and Uzumba TTLs pour all over his feet. There is a large book of anecdotes waiting to be written on Rhodesia and alcohol.
German Soldier, i drink shumba
Too. And Dream of Rhodesia..😊

@@ALMIGHTY_SIGMAR Then how do you explain how ''Shumba'' isn't related to any type of beer?

What is shumba?
A lion hunter from a wee bit north of Zimbabwe
Shumba is a lion beer that was popular with the soldiers during the war.
Not a beer as you know it though, it's a maheu.
What's the difference?
@@Strongboy1770 it's fermented and maize based and from what I know non-alcoholic, never had it myself though this is just from what I read.
What does ''ek se'' means?
Ek se, is Rhodesian slang for, I say.
@@stanislav7888 Thanks.
