Quite ironic because I felt the opposite. The game was too easy and I was happy that something challenging, as this, showed up! The only thing buffed from the Original Trilogy. Even the enemies in the game have been toned down...
I beat the whole game on PS1 in under 2 hours when I was about 7 years old 100% all talismans all orbs all gems. Okay so after about 16 deaths I finally did it. When Gulps about to shoot his lazer move left then right and forward left and right or move in circles as his lasers target your exact spot when they shoot. When he charges this is easy just charge straight at him as he'll jump and try squash you and you'll go straight under him. If 2 rockets are on the field pick one up and then move to the next one and shoot the first and quickly pick up the second before he destroys it for a cheesey 2nd hit. Always make sure you grab the chickens as soon as there available (even if you're at full health) then move away so the butterfly remains so if you get hit you can grab it to get some health back. He does eat chickens to regen health so keep that in mind I didn't notice that at first. Dodge rolling can be useful for avoiding the lazers but more then often I found it got me hit so I just didn't bother dodge rolling. Honestly if you feel like giving up just don't it took me a while to do this but it's not impossible. I hope this helps someone even if just a little.
They don't target your exact spot. Only the first one does if you're standing still. It goes off prediction based on your momentum from you last point of movement when the shot was fired

Got triggered by the title and I thought it was clickbait. Was thinking, "Bet he's got the permanent superflame". Sorry for doubting you, hands down respect 👏👏👏. Anyone who kills Gulp without a hit knows what they're doing. Hardest boss in the trilogy.
I'm a veteran gamer if you will. I've been playing video games nearly every day for 25 years. I played this game as a kid and when I got to Gulp in the remastered version I recalled this boss being very difficult because as I kid I never even got past this boss, but I was naive in thinking that it was probably only difficult for me because I was like ten, but no, I got to Gulp and the difficulty went from like a 3 out of 10 to an 11! I didn't think I was going to defeat this boss simply because I noticed that when he shot those electric orbs at you, they would track you and even calculate exactly where you were going, how fast you were going and when you'd stop. I think the trajectory of those electric orbs go based off a system that predicts your every move, because those orbs sure did. I figured out that when he shoots those you stay still, then before the first one hits, you walk forward and zig zag, but walk not run. The orbs are the hardest part about this boss.
the hardest part is when gulp has only one live left and you tell yourself over and over again "please dont mess this up please dont mess this up. Only one hit and he is gone)" My heart beat so fast and I sweat buckets I had to pause the game and for a while to come down
Tips: have your camera on full screen on your tv as the camera doesnt keep moving then. Hide behind barrells as they protect you from any hits from green lasers, flames, bombs etc. Plus all the other tips that are already here
You can come back to this fight later if you want the skill point, once you have superflame. Nothing says that you need to get the perfect run without, after all
I think I'm experiencing some sort of glitch - once Gulp got down to 2 lives the pterodactyls kept flying over but not holding or dropping anything. I have been running around in circles for ages - one more weapon dropped but then more of the same
Completing it WITH getting hit is relatively simple once you get used the paths he takes and in addition to reading some tips. This is after I died about 8 times. Eventually I realized you’re supposed to spit the rockets out not light them LOL. Charging towards him when hes charging towards YOU is the main key, because he’ll leap over you to crush you, meanwhile you’re still going behind him in the opposite direction. When he starts shooting the lasers at you just kind of do a zig zag finishing with a circle motion, which I found helped. If all else fails stay to the rim of the platform lmfaoo
It took me 2 1/2 hours to get the skill point for this boss. Literally the same amount of time it took me to beat Sonic Forces. Friggin’ BRUH- I’d 100% recommend waiting until you get the fire upgrade instead if you plan on getting the skill point, since while this boss isn’t too difficult normally, basically doing a no-hit run on it is enough to drive anyone insane.
I don't care about getting a perfect score in this part. But i been on this for weeks. Any hints on how to avoid Gulp? he seems to move to darn fast and the birds take a bit to long then the Original tossing down eggs.
Finally an opponent worthy being called a boss level, unlike gnasty gnorc who everyone kept bitching about how "tough" he was in the first spyro. THIS is a real boss.
nocturnalanimal 1 second ago How on earth...? 😯 it must’ve taken DAYS for you to do it that well. I honour you bro. I get so frustrated with this level that I just don’t even bother anymore.
So when I first reach this boss level, I tried at least 15 times and couldn’t do it. The next day, I watched this video, tried turned on my ps4, tried again, and I immediately beat the level in one attempt while only getting injured like 3 times.
I tried to do this without dying for the perfect skill point and said fuck it after 4 attempts of getting hit halfway through. Ended up beating him on my 1st actual try though, not too bad once you figure out his weaknesses and know in your head what's next. The laser beams are the only challenging part for me, I can dodge them easily sometimes but then sometimes one hits me somehow.
Post story in the theme park (see the "He's on fire" trophy for reference) - but it requires you to 100% the game first. The perma flame also helps with Ripto himself. Of course that buff is an easy way out but if you're just here for the skill point, then that's your best bet. And after purchasing you can also disable the permanent superflame if you don't like the buff it gave you.
Is it though? I was giving this tip for the flawless kill and you really don't need to do the flawless kill on your first encounter with Gulp. If you're having trouble beating him at all, well, yeah. GG.
This boss is the absolute worst, and it's purely down to one thing: the fucking hit detection from Gulp's cannons. I'm not ruining. That's what just fucking ruins this boss for me. That, and the fact that Gulp can devour fodder to gain back health. That's bullshit too, but still... fuck this boss. I hate it.
So I dunno if I glitched or not...but before I ended up attempting the perfects on Gulp and Ripto, I went to Dragon Shores and got all the gems and orbs. This opened up the infinity Fire powerup and I ended up shooting the meteor-like flames instead of the regular breath. I just spammed it on both and got both Skill Points in basically a minute each...can someone else confirm if this works for them?
The guy that programmed this boss fight was probably mad as fuck but after 100 tries I finally beat Gulp with a tear on my face and no sparx left. Don't give up guys. All you gotta do is master how to avoid most of his orbs and not let him eat any of your chickens. If you see an item to attack him but it's too close to him you might wanna wait for another one.
Someone else thinks it must have been like that for Intenso too; with the heads of the 3. The detail was that they improved many things compared to the original. the chamber play, darker and more aggressive tones to Gulp. Why didn't they continue with that technique with the other bosses, the others lowered the difficulty and they are slow
Took me 20 tries to get the perfect until I figured a very easy way to avoid the laser orbs: Just CHARGE around yourself in a small circle, some distance away from gulp and all of his orbs will fly harmlessly away from spyro :D
The only reason why this felt so hard was because of the homing plasma balls out of the dual cannons attached to Gulp. Merely charging away doesn't work. Gulp was legit a marksman. lol
If the camera didn’t lock onto stupid gulp I could beat this stupid level. Except the camera lock can’t be turned off (I set it to off still locked). It causes me to run into walls and get killed.
I’ve played hard games and I swear I didn’t expect this from a a baby game like Spyro all tho there are many Versions of Spyro this one is baby but the boss felt like an adult level.
Now, I finally solved it by finishing all worlds in Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage, then I got infinite superflame, then go back to Gulp and defeated it with superflame
Be sure to bob and weave. As soon as an electric shot is fired it will lock on to a location. So if you move in a straight line, it will hit you. If you move in serpentine you won't be hit. And if you move in one direction when a shot is fired, then stop, then you won't be hit. You actually barely even need to move in order to trick it, if you just move, hear the shot, then stop and repeat.
Does anybody else sweat like crazy playing this part? I sure do. And I'm sure if I tested my blood pressure with my monitor, it would be somewhat elevated. I have yet to beat him
I have no clue why they made this such a difficult enemy to fight, the game was piss easy up to this point then it's like BOOM hard time now. Pacing is all off, I know it's only spyro, but fucking hell this is taking the piss haha

Bit of advice: Try to have a surplus rocket.
Easy Perfect: Get the permanent projectile flame powerup from Dragon Shores. Shoot him til he's dead, and you're done.
Pro tip, run in small circles when he shoots lighting at you, you’re welcome 😉
This is basically the second Army Dillo fight from DK64 on all the steroids...
i remember theres this one beaver minigame that was basically impossible and took me several days to finish
“This boss requires pAtIeNcE”. No, this boss requires a patch.
Do you have to jump everytime you damage him or can you let those attacks slide.(for the flawless)
You automatically bounce when you hit him, doesn't hurt you.
@@RagnarokMic thanks and i ended uo just getting the 100 percent to super flame his ass way easier lol.
Finally beat him after 13 tries. YES! That level...UGH!
the hardest part is when gulp has only one live left and you tell yourself over and over again "please dont mess this up please dont mess this up. Only one hit and he is gone)" My heart beat so fast and I sweat buckets I had to pause the game and for a while to come down
Once you figure out to use walking instead of running all over the place its a lot easier
Thank you actually used this tip and finally especially when he run and tries to crush you he matches your speed
Fighting this guy was a NIGHTMARE!
Those green laser pointed bullets are glitched....
Took me ages to realise but if Gulp eats the chickens, he gains a hit point... if you keep near perfect health the chickens aren't dropped.
When Ripto said Gulp was gonna be more of a challenge he wasn't kidding lol
Sucks to be you, Ripto.
It took me 2 1/2 hours to get the skill point for this boss. Literally the same amount of time it took me to beat Sonic Forces. Friggin’ BRUH-
I’d 100% recommend waiting until you get the fire upgrade instead if you plan on getting the skill point, since while this boss isn’t too difficult normally, basically doing a no-hit run on it is enough to drive anyone insane.
I barely could beat it in general perfect or not..
Just beat this bastard. Probably the hardest thing in Spyro 2
I don't care about getting a perfect score in this part. But i been on this for weeks. Any hints on how to avoid Gulp? he seems to move to darn fast and the birds take a bit to long then the Original tossing down eggs.
Tell Sony to create a PS4 Game Genie
3:03 I guess he isn't some mindless beast. He's using Spyro's weapons against him!
Finally an opponent worthy being called a boss level, unlike gnasty gnorc who everyone kept bitching about how "tough" he was in the first spyro. THIS is a real boss.

How on earth...?
Little tip. Go circle when he does the green thingy. Its easier.
You can hurt Gulp with ther perma flame (10,000 gems etc.). That way you can spam R2 and get the perfect kill in 15 seconds... ^^
Where do i get this?
Post story in the theme park (see the "He's on fire" trophy for reference) - but it requires you to 100% the game first.
The perma flame also helps with Ripto himself. Of course that buff is an easy way out but if you're just here for the skill point, then that's your best bet. And after purchasing you can also disable the permanent superflame if you don't like the buff it gave you.
@@moerko94 Then it's pretty much pointless since you'd already beat him to progress... :/
Is it though? I was giving this tip for the flawless kill and you really don't need to do the flawless kill on your first encounter with Gulp. If you're having trouble beating him at all, well, yeah. GG.
This can be used for the trophy for not killing any chickens during the fight, I’m gonna do this thanks
Thankyou so much for this video I finally did it lol
This thing made me rage so much that he is so far my most HATED boss of all time. That why I'm here to see this video.
If you did not have an anxiety disorder before this, you definitely will after this boss…
The achievement to not flame the flobbers was difficult!
Doing this fight via the switch is utter bullshit.
Took me 20 tries to get the perfect until I figured a very easy way to avoid the laser orbs: Just CHARGE around yourself in a small circle, some distance away from gulp and all of his orbs will fly harmlessly away from spyro :D
I don’t think Gulp is a a difficult boss, the main problem is the camera. Making it more unfair, and not my own fault if I die.
The camera angle is what’s hardest for me. I feel like I constantly can’t see😅
I keep getting damn chickens
I’m stuck on this level. I can’t beat him no matter how much I try.
I died more to this thing than ripto which I defeated first try
I threw a bomb at him and I got hit by a green orb. Spyro died but because Gulp got hit before me... I finally DEFEATED him!
He has a Level 3 Sharigan with those electric laser shots
Was he Sailor Jupiter’s lost pet?
Beat it after 7 tries, read these comments first and got so scared lmao
The only reason why this felt so hard was because of the homing plasma balls out of the dual cannons attached to Gulp. Merely charging away doesn't work. Gulp was legit a marksman. lol
He should be on Fortnite. Oh, wait , scratch that. He would make every players squeal in the mic.
I don't know how you make this shit fucking easy, cause this fight really fucking pisses me off
This fight is hard, and becomes 10x harder with joycon drift for the camera stick ffff.
You can stand still at the beginning of the fight and just spam shoot until he dies
I swear this dude is harder than most Dark Souls bosses 😂
Perhaps he’s the Dark Soul of Spyro.
If the camera didn’t lock onto stupid gulp I could beat this stupid level. Except the camera lock can’t be turned off (I set it to off still locked). It causes me to run into walls and get killed.
Lost 32 lives doing this godforsaken Gulp.
Lol, as soon as the fight starts shoot him with a fireball. He'll get hurt, jump up which will bounce you up and then you can shoot him again
Good Lorde that was tricky. 9 lives later 😳
This monster is hard, it’s easy at the beginning but harder
I’ve played hard games and I swear I didn’t expect this from a a baby game like Spyro all tho there are many Versions of Spyro this one is baby but the boss felt like an adult level.
This was so impressive fackkkkk
I'm always quitting it then open it again because I'm making it perfect to get skill points
Now, I finally solved it by finishing all worlds in Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage, then I got infinite superflame, then go back to Gulp and defeated it with superflame
RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES and make sure your camera is also moving with you to avoid that stupid electricity.
cant beat it. Stupid electric attacks hit me.
Be sure to bob and weave. As soon as an electric shot is fired it will lock on to a location. So if you move in a straight line, it will hit you. If you move in serpentine you won't be hit. And if you move in one direction when a shot is fired, then stop, then you won't be hit. You actually barely even need to move in order to trick it, if you just move, hear the shot, then stop and repeat.
i did it with perm flame, good now. Off to spyro 3.
Took 20 of my lives but I finally beat him. Barely though
The easiest way to do this is to get superflame and just spam right from the beginning.
literlly started with 23 lives as well, im down to 4 lmao
Does anybody else sweat like crazy playing this part? I sure do. And I'm sure if I tested my blood pressure with my monitor, it would be somewhat elevated. I have yet to beat him
Hey can you complete me this level?
Dude this is so hard, how you did it, idk. I’m losing, I’m losing bad 😂
I'm not one to rage quit, but this game has gotten me so close to throwing my controller and quitting 😫
Just get 100% to get superflame and come back, just spam and he's toast.
THESE LASER BEAMS ARE GOING TO PUT ME IN JAIL SJSHEJODKM2M2MWNDB😤😤😤😤😤😤
Just wait till the end of the game and get the super flame charge permanently and go back. Just flame his big green ahh over and over.
The real boss is the camera lock not gulp.
I have no clue why they made this such a difficult enemy to fight, the game was piss easy up to this point then it's like BOOM hard time now. Pacing is all off, I know it's only spyro, but fucking hell this is taking the piss haha
