I really love the fact Vadic is portrayed as more than just a generic villain. Every DC movie/comic/whatever would just have gone ahead and said "yeah, she's evil, she has evil plans, she has an evil boss, therefore she's the villain. End of story" - but the way she was presented, told her background story, her origin...you've got quite some sympathy for her. And I noticed the struggle of Picard wanting to find a peaceful solution for everything, but knowing very well she's gone WAY too deep into the waters of endless hatred. Material that can devastate someone who technically does the right thing, as there's not THE right thing anymore.
    Very good villain!

Personally I think they missed an opportunity for ally Borg in the first season when Seven connected to the derelict cube and awakened the drones. It would have also be very interesting to see Seven commanding a federation Borg cube with a crew of both collective drones and those who have been given their individuality back, working to free the rest. How did Vadic and the other Changelings get captured in the first place? That seems to be a glaring plot hole since the likelihood of even one being captured much less half a dozen+ is fairly low.
I thought it would have been more interesting to have Vadic been one of the 100 sent out to see how they would be treated and for her to show an alternate perspective to the Great Link than what Odo provided at the end of the Dominion War. Plus, I feel that this could have been a great way to bring Laas back into the story for the same purpose.

    • @Bitchslapper316

I don't think it's a plot hole. Section 31 has proven resourceful and they could have found a way to just scan for them on a planetary scale. They have tech star fleet proper does not.
During the episode "paradise lost" we learned there were 6 on earth not including Odo. This was also the time when Odo was infected so they obviously already captured at least one.
It may seem like a plot hole because Sisko and the DS9 crew didn't know about it. However S31 wouldn't have even told them, why would they? S31 was probably hoping the coup by Admiral Layton was successful.

I think you missed an important part of plot development with Vadic meeting with her superior, which I don't believe is a changeling due to the insults and shade thrown her way in the conversation. Rewatch and I think the big bad is just supplying the changeling faction for their mutual goals. Could be a Reman or a Romulan or ExBorg/current borg etc, even Picard's doppelganger, Shinzon from Remus ??? but I believe the person using the changelings has had 20 years to plan their perfect way to get back at Picard and fam....starfleet etc. By using them (the fleet) against him/fam.
Picard's son is probably the key to extending his life and mimicking picard and controlling the zombie Picard's body. Plus...the Remans had telepathic powers....perhaps they had a hand in helping with Jack's creation the last time Beverly and Picard danced. The latent nanoprobes and some remixed DNA may be giving him rapidly developing powers for which he was created for.
They don't really need him by frontier day but it's the best opportunity to take over the combined fleet for some nefarious reason.
Just 2 cents from a different perspective.
    Any thoughts??

So I'm gonna be really really petty here on nu-Trek up to this point...
Did anyone else notice the bridge officer that got straight up vaporized and how nobody started bursting into tears and crying out in anguish and swearing revenge on the Bridge?
I mean, yeah Shaw was crying but he got his ass beat in the turbolift pretty bad so I'm thinking it's more due to that.
I bring it up because in Nu-Trek, especially Discovery, if anyone got hurt or killed on the bridge the other officers would absolutely lose their shit with emotion wheras on classic Trek a dude could end up dying in torture and the most the Captain would do is raise their voice. At least until the crisis had passed.
I dunno. I couldn't help but notice how things are different when Kurtzman isn't in charge creatively :P
Also, the origin of Vadik was interesting but it doesn't explain the Face, or why she has to cut it off as if it's a seperate part of her. My theory is that the Face is the part of Vadik that refuses to take the shape of a solid - the one hell-bent on revenge, and Vadik is the part of her that still might be negotiated with, but she's essentially the meat-puppet for the Face. That is, Vadik has DiD thanks to her torture.
Or.... the Face is an alien entity altogether... I dunno.

    • @josephmassaro
      @josephmassaro Год назад +1

@@Bitchslapper316 Yes, I am. It wasn't great, but at least it was consistent and respected canon. This show is heavy on easter eggs and fan service, but plays fast and loose with canon and characters.
A few examples of bad writing:
Riker would never say, on the bridge, in front of the crew..."You've killed us all." This was purely for dramatic effect. Writing dialogue for characters that they would never say just to heighten the scene. A systemic writing problem repeated on a number of occasions throughout this season. It's lazy writing.
Another example. Half the main characters are constantly hammering the audience with how amazing Geordi's daughter is. Please like her audience, we want to do a spin off with her. It's obvious and distracting.
Another example. Shaw, a captain. You know, the "he commands not just a spaceship, but a starship. A very special vessel and crew" captain. He is not only written as unlikable, he's incompetent. Jellico was unlikable, but at least he was competent. Shaw doesn't have to be the worst captain in Starfleet. He makes Captain John "It will be ready on Tuesday" Harriman look like Kirk. This is another systemic writing problem. Making one character look good, Seven, at the expense of another character. These writers can't seem to do one without the other.
I can go on, but my point is that these characters are shadows of themselves, because the writers aren't all that good.
You're free to like it all you want, but the writing is very mediocre.
