  • This wonderful diesel generating set was manufactured by Tilsley & Lovatt Limited of Stoke-on-Trent in December 1974.
The set was originally powered by a Gardner 6LX engine, which was subsequently removed and replaced with the existing Gardner 6LXB unit.
Manufactured in December 1980, this Gardner 6LXB engine was originally supplied to Bristol Commercial Vehicles in March 1981.
The engine was originally fitted to a Bristol VRT service bus (chassis no: VRT/SL3/2948), which was new to Crosville Motor Services Ltd as YMB 507W. The bus entered service in May 1981 as fleet number DVG507.
The engine was fully re-manufactured by Midland Engine Remanufacturing Limited of Stoke-on-Trent in September 1994.
Gardner engines are beautifully engineered and built to last.

6LX and 6LXB's .. takes me back to my apprentice mechanic days in the mid 60's .. Guy Invincibles and Big J's .. loved these engines and cared for them over many thousands of miles on day and night trunking work .. hardly ever needed a spanner on them .. satisfying to change oil and filter .. never broke down.

    London Transport liked theirs.
Funny their Daimler Fleetlines which usually had them, mostly had Leyland 0680s fitted, yet their Leyland Titans and Olympians all had Gardners.

@@transportarchive6680 Great way to start the engine, low revs, get her warmed up, then a load on. You get some generators at full chat from cold. Clean oil, filter changes, and timing chain checks/ adjust, and she will see you a life time.

    Where is this generator based

Sadly, I do not know the original owner of this generator. However, it last worked as a back-up generator for a farm in Lancashire.

@@transportarchive6680 Thanks for that as i wasnt sure, used to see them in ERF's here in Malta back then they would already have worked ten years in UK before coming here.
