Ray's (Jamie Foxx from Django Unchained and Baby Driver) doctor asks him to quit drugs if he wants him to give a positive report to the judge. Ray imagines he has a conversation with his dead mother (Sharon Warren), who chastises him for letting drugs cripple him. Ray tries to apologize, but his mother won't hear of it. His little brother George appears, telling Ray that he doesn't blame him for his death. In 1979, Ray permanently quits heroin and receives his proudest accomplishment: the state of Georgia officially apologizes to Ray and makes "Georgia On My Mind" the official state song.

What is this Ray movie about ?
The young Ray (Jamie Foxx from Django Unchained and Baby Driver) sees his brother drowning when he is only 7 years old. He loses his sight at 9 years old, and his mother (Sharon Warren) advises him to avoid using this as an excuse. He grows up in the Seattle jazz scene, facing addiction and infidelity issues in his life on the road. With the support of his wife (Kerry Washington from Scandal and Django Unchained), he redefines the soul genre and inspires a whole generation.

I love how despite his mother sounding disappointed that he got into drugs, she was still willing to forgive him.
I know it's a dream sequence and probably some means of artistic license, but every time I see this scene it nearly brings me to tears, especially the bit where, through George saying "It wasn't your fault," he begins to forgive himself for things that he didn't cause and to turn his life around.
Especially without the eyes shut.
Reminds me of Good Will Hunting...
This whole scene made me cry every time and the way his brother says, "it wasn't your fault."

The message that this film transmits to you is very intense, never give up even in our most difficult moments, we must always move forward, for the memory of those who are no longer present with us, but who live within our hearts.
One of my favorite movies.
Jamie Foxx had inhabited Ray Charles in this movie so convincingly that you forgot you were watching an actor but when you see this dream sequence scene in 1:08 that just got rid of it all and now you'll know that you were watching an actor. But this is a good movie nonetheless I agree.

Jamie Foxx inhibited Ray Charles so convincingly that you forgot you're watching an actor but the dream sequence in 1:08 when Jamie is not wearing the prosthetics and removes the glasses you can see that it's Jamie Foxx and that took it all away. Good luck finding the real Ray Charles with eyes open because you're not.

Was trying to remember where I recognized that rehab doctor from. Finally figured out he was Chase's father in House md.
What makes me surprised was Ray Charles with his eyes open in a dream sequence. If you're looking for the real Ray Charles with his eyes open well go luck. Because you're only going to find pictures of him with them shut.

I've been there myself I once used drugs Coke, Popping pills, SMOKING oxycontin I mean I feel him and many of us get lost in childhood. I mean I wanted to run away from bad things in my past I have demons many of us do I been Drug free 11 almost 12 years now not even a smoke of weed. I never counted weed as a drug but smoked it alot back in the days same times doing other drugs.
Say NO to drugs.
