    Nothing like a new radiotvphononut video!

    For a while I’ve wanted to convert the tuner to loop to a digital converter box then back to a second tuner on 3. Then I could turn the dial and it would cause the box to tune to that RF channel and send that to the other tuner on 3. Couldn’t tune in sub channels. But better than a tuner forever locked on 3.

    I cant stay awake through this. I am sorry. I know all about everything you are doing, i worked at a radio shack when this came out, i knew it was an opto setup, was in the literature, they did send an RCA TV to each store for other games to display on the showroom, like pong. I just use my cell phone on macro mode to take pictures of part numbers, just a cheap Motorola phone, i never went to college, just high school but they had an electronics class, i spent half my life doing everything from consumer, xerox, computer systems, pinball, jukebox and video games, most to component level . Just rant less unless you want to help me sleep, which you did at 5 AM and i needed it. Thanks Mark.

    GE recently sold its major appliance division to the Chinese maker Haier, but they will still be called GE. You'll pay hundreds of dollars for a forged name if you buy s GE appliance. Amazing this branding is not considered fraud.

  • @Bluethunderboom
    @Bluethunderboom 6 месяцев назад +3

    GoldStar is LG company, and Samsung is another story and wasn't decent.
    On the other hand, it was a good set and way better than Chinese made TVs.

    Had the Goldstar version of this TV. It also had an iffy tuner too. Wiggling the channel selector to the point I got rid of it
    eventually as it was our very last B&W TV. It was used on channel 3 for our early Atari gaming system for awhile as it never
    acted up on channel 3. Nice sounding Columbia record player but no neutral selector position so you had to use the turntable often so you don't get a dip in the rubber on the idler wheel! When looking for a tube powered record player at antique stores (or where ever) , look fo the letter N by the speed change lever. The rest you will have to learn about like Selenium rectifiers , electolytic caps and phono cartridge replacement. Fun hobby in itself.

    If they were made in Korea..why they label these things...G E...RCA etc...instead of samsong or Lucky -Goldstar...? ... for years why relabel them...the value of it is nothing...I trader have the order ..then the made for America garbage 🗑️....I want a real one from japan or Korea...with the channel 1 to 12 tuner...I had one in the 1980s...it was with KBS 1 and 2...on the tuner...over the channel 1 and 9..very 😎

    Most of the Goldstar sets that in encountered as a kid in the 80's-90's ended up going up in smoke when the flyback bit the dust. But what can you expect for $249 for a 19 in color TV.

    • @radiotvphononut
      @radiotvphononut  6 месяцев назад +2

      In the '90s, I saw a lot of bad flyback transformers in Emerson, GoldStar, and Samsung sets. The Emerson sets were actually made by GoldStar and Orion, and most people didn't approve a flyback replacement on these cheap sets.

    • @JerrySpann-fn4kw
      @JerrySpann-fn4kw 6 месяцев назад +3

      Always wondered why they call them flyback transformers. Is it because if you grab the damn thing when it's powered up, you go flying backwards?

    Speaking of cameras: they don't have manual focus. Especially cell phone cameras. If they had manual focus, a person can focus on anything they wanted to. They need the manual focus option. Btw, interesting video!
    Edit: I have a large mute button for commercials. It's a big red button. A must for commercials and political ads.

    • @eDoc2020

      Some cheap phone cameras are fixed focus. If a smartphone camera has autofocus you can most likely lock the focus with an appropriate app.

    I'm guessing the hum you're seeing at the end is from the transformer emitting its own magnetic field. This might be worse because the half-wave rectification could be causing slight core saturation. I would suggest adding a full bridge rectifier to the power supply which may make the transformer happier. It would also increase the B+ but you can easily add extra series resistance.

    57:11 What they'd burn through running a healthy tube without sync like that is the shadow mask inside the picture side of the CRT. Burn that mask right in two! 😂

    Why not use an old wall wart transformer like an isolation between the volume switch and whatever other circuitry u need hook up along with resistors on the secondary side to go to the jacks u want to plug into the tv. something like how others have done on hot chassis set radios to make an audio input that can be hooked to about any device then.that ways one won't get shocked.

    • @eDoc2020
      @eDoc2020 6 месяцев назад

      That works for audio. Video has much higher frequencies which can't be sent through a typical transformer.

    Ground loop defeating transformer? That's probably not the proper name, but it's essentially an isolation transformer for audio cables.
    Safety is questionable though, those transformer's might not enjoy having ~120v potential across the windings.

    How did they isolate rf 75 ohm antenna inputs on newer crt color TVs.

    • @eDoc2020
      @eDoc2020 6 месяцев назад

      Newer hot chassis TVs used tiny capacitors for isolation, the same way old ones did. This works because the capacitors pass nearly all signal in the desired MHz range but block nearly all 60Hz current.

      Yes, unfortunately, I'm aware of that. I'll just keep using what I have until I can no longer do so and then I'll cross that bridge then. I wish they'd just pick a standard and leave it alone, but they're not going to do that because they have to keep people constantly having to buy new crap.
