  • Granulation in Fine Silver in a Beehive Kiln -I will show you how to granulate fine silver using a Smith torch and a beehive kiln (available here www.jewelryart...) Learning how to control the torch is essential for beautiful granulation in fine silver. I will show you exactly how to hold the torch for control and fusing. I teach all of my students to granulate in fine silver first, before they learn to granulation in 22k gold. The process similar whether silversmithing or goldsmithing with slight variation as fine silver becomes more liquid during granulation than 22k gold does.

    Me again..or are you directing flame directly on kiln element?? Would love to do that..have a little kiln but unsure if I should do that...

    • @JewelryArts
      @JewelryArts  2 года назад +4

      The flame doesn't hurt the kiln. :)

    Is the kiln actually on when you are applying the flame?

    Hello ...thanks for information on this.. one question is what are you using on floor of kiln......or is that the actual inside?? I have beehive kiln and am interested to know what insert I could use.....

    • @JewelryArts
      @JewelryArts  2 года назад +2

      You are very welcome! That is just the inside of the kiln.

    This is my first time w granulation what solder do you use or do you do the powder solder or does the glue have some kind of solder effect or is it just fused together with the heat?
    Also do you heat your piece directly on the heating element of your kiln?

    • @JewelryArts
      @JewelryArts  Год назад +1

      Granulation uses no solder, it is fused together just using the heat. The piece is laid directly on the kiln element but a thin coat of ochre is used on the back of the piece for fine silver. :)

    What gauge is the back sheet...maybe you stated that in the video and I missed it.

      No worries, it is 26 gauge fine silver. 😃

    • @JewelryArts

      We usually only do that for 22k gold, not silver, but you can. :)
