Joan Blondell was born in 1906. She was my age, 51 in this movie. She always reminded me of other blonde actresses of her age, Shelley Winters, Vivian Vance (Ethel on I Love Lucy), and May West. Katharine Hepburn was born a year later and was 50 here. It's a pleasure to see older women in lead romantic roles. I guess the movie studios figure the 'adults' needed something to watch.

My mother said Joan Blondell was adorable younger. She also was quite thin then. You see her in older movies on TCM. She was a beauty.

Sadly the workplace did come to what these women feared. Those jobs are obsolete

It is interesting how they were assured that AI (the computer) would only eliminate drudgery, just like today.

Considering the attitudes of that period, I find it quite surprising (in a good way) how often you see older actresses like Hepburn, Greer Garson, Bette Davis, Jean Arthur, etc. playing romantic leads and also how popular they were as stars.

@fleendha i think they were keeping adults entertained. TV was a source of distraction, and they had to compete. I'm glad they didn't just pander to kids, and actually used the older stars.

TV was a FAMILY THING, gathering around the TV for family features. That's been destroyed.
