Beautiful area with lots of great houses and incredible views, but the land has shifted SO MUCH in recent years that I can't believe it's not more of a non-starter for people. There's one road in particular that looks like it was part of a disaster movie. Wish it wasn't true. It's an awesome area, but you just have to look at what happened to Wayfarer's chapel to realize what's on the horizon.

Thanks for watching. Wayfarers was on the edge of a natural landslide that has existed since 1950's. The slide has recently intensified the last two years due to the above average rainfall. I agree with you, its really a shame that Wayfarers is damaged, and hopefully there will be some relief with pumps and diversion. ITs incredible in fact as I drive thorugh the slide area every few days and its moving quite a bit. It was not like this during the drought. Although risky for some, the view is incredible and living by the ocean is pretty awesome.

Wayfarer's chappel has cancelled all event bookings for two years due to land slides. As you said buying or even living in the area is risky.

There are some homes that are experiencing more movement which might be risky - Its concerning during a heavy rain. Some homes in the slide area are not affected as much. It seems that the ones on the edge of a larger moving plate have more damage.

I was told that there is a large amount of volcanic ash that has been compressed and is now called bentonite. They used to mine in Ladera Canyon for this and diatamtios earth, I think, or was that closer to RHE golf course? The bentonite is like clay and when it gets wet its slippery. Two years ago the rough estimate was the Portuguese bend upper slide had moved roughly 600 feet since the begining in the 50's. I wonder how much its moved in the last two years?
