I love Mr. Tilney's light, teasing manner of being a gentleman. He knows the proper decorum and he adhere to it but he also knows how ridiculous it is at times.. JJ Field does an excellent job in this role! And this has got to be one of my favorite Austen movies!
I like Mr. Tilney so much! He's nothing like the other men in Jane Austen's novels, they're all so reserved. Mr. Tilney actually has a personality! lol
"Indeed, Astonishing, Amazzzing, now tell me, are you altogether pleased with Bath madam..." Yes, I like you (Mr. Tilney) very well. "EXCELLENT." I love this man, where can I get one?
If I were to meet all the Austen men in real life, I think Henry Tilney is the one I would actually fall for. He may not be my favorite Austen male but in reality I think I would crush on him becuase he's so funny and witty, and that kind of personality always wins me over.
i wish people still danced like they did back then... everytime I watch an austen film I always can't wait for the ball scenes because I just love the way they dance in groups like that! I would so love to dance in those times!
Austen also Northanger Abbey to poke fun of the Gothic novels and their stereotypes, one of which was having the man pining after the girl. She wanted to switch it up a bit! :)
I love watching Jane Austen adaptations because the films are wonderful, of course, but the comments are so nice and civil! No trolls, no insults, just nice girls and guys swooning over quality programming...purrr...
The only instance in which I can say I enjoyed the film over the novel. Not to say I didn't care for it! I did. I believe JJ Feild is largely to blame for my favoring the movie. He breathed life into Mr. Henry Tilney! Dreamy, dreamy actor with an infectious smile and pleasing voice. /melts
I love Tilney's smirk and his teasing Catherine while they are dancing. J.J Field and Felicity Jones have become my Henry and Catherine. I actually prefer this version to the 1981 one.
Henry Tilney isn't my favorite Austen romantic leading guy, but he's definitely an interesting character for Austen to have decided to write. In her other books, much of the time (though not always, by any means), men who came across so amiable and good humored at first, later were revealed to be no good, or to have been hiding something (whether it be something bad or not), so it's nice that she decided to write a character like that, who actually is as they seem to be.
Ah yes, Mr. Tilney (sigh) I love how playful and happy he is. And that crooked little smile paired with that smolder thing he does with his eyes... now THAT would make any girl weak at the knees ; )
I love the actress who plays Mrs. Allen, she has just the right combination of propriety and frivolity. She played Fanny Price in the older version of Mansfield Park.
H:Ready? K: Yes. H:How long have you been in Bath Madam? K: Not long at all Sir! H: Were you never here before? K: Never Sir! H: Indeed! Have you been at a play? K: Not yet Sir H: Astonishing! Concert? K: No! H: Amazing! Now tell me, are you all together pleased with Bath Madam? K: Yes! I like it very well H: Excelent. Now I must give you ONE smirk, and then we can be rational again. LOL! I love their chemistry. Another amazing Jane Austen couple that I have fallen deeply in love with :-)
This is one of my all times fav movie.....the only book i really like from Jane Austen sigh gosh i really do wish that i lived during that time, everything was soo poetic....(sigh) ...lol
Aww, man the movie left out Henry's response, "Perhaps you are not sitting in this room, and I am not sitting by you..." Maybe it was because they were dancing, but the original comeback was awesome.
But isn't that quite realistic? It happens often nowadays that until one has confessed their feelings, the other doesn't realize a thing. You could make the case for Lizzie and Darcy being the same way - Lizzie didn't realize she liked Darcy so much until after the proposal and seeing Pemberley.
the girl who plays catherine is pretty. i read the book for a class, and when i was reading it, i pictured someone more plain, she doesn't really seem plain
lol finally someone's on the same page as me lol but guess we all have our taste..i love his hair too..wouldnt mind having him kiss me all over lol (the final scene in P&P) and i love the part where he first tells her how he feels and she's all against him and he just about kisses her but holds himself. most guys would just go ahead and kiss her but he respected her.
This is a good adaptation, but they cut some of my favorite lines! In the book, when Catherine says that perhaps she doesn't keep a journal, Henry replies "Perhaps you are not sitting in this room, and I am not sitting with you. Those are points in which a doubt is equally possible." Catherine's line doesn't really fit without Henry's answering joke. And they cut some other hilarious lines from that conversation, too.
Hmmm... I haven't read the book... I will soon.. but.. it's weird to actually meet someone and dance with him at the first ball you go to in a whole new place... isn't it!? and what's even more weird is that I'm watching this instead of studying!! :|
I love how they stick her fantasies in! It's artistic license, but it's brilliant. I am surprised at how young Catherine is. She looks to be about 15 or 16. Wasn't she older than that in the books?
i love darcy but i really like tinley, he has a sarcastic humor about him and a charm that is kinda bad boy like (but not really if you know what i mean) there is just something his 'cool' attitude that i like.
I love Mr. Tilney's light, teasing manner of being a gentleman. He knows the proper decorum and he adhere to it but he also knows how ridiculous it is at times.. JJ Field does an excellent job in this role! And this has got to be one of my favorite Austen movies!
definately...darcy's really intese... henry's really chill. love em both!!!
I like Mr. Tilney so much! He's nothing like the other men in Jane Austen's novels, they're all so reserved. Mr. Tilney actually has a personality! lol
I am only fourteen minutes into this story, having never read the book nor seen the film, and I am already head-over-heels in love with Mr. Tilney.
this book is one of my favorites that jane austen has written
"I must give you one smirk and then we can be rational again." Does anyone else melt? :) Henry Tilney is amazing.
Mr. Tilney's smiles are just the best! So charming!
The level of adorable in this movie is too much to handle. Agh! Just look at them smile!
Oh how I love his smile...
"He has a sister!" haha
Because when you have a sister you must be a good person :)
I LOVE Henry Tilney!! He's so awesome!
I love mr. Tilney..I always have to smile when he smiles..he looks so funny when he smiles
The actor that plays Henry Tilney ........I want him,hes absolutely adorable. ( drool!)
omg i love how before u could actually have a conversation while dancing
"Indeed, Astonishing, Amazzzing, now tell me, are you altogether pleased with Bath madam..." Yes, I like you (Mr. Tilney) very well. "EXCELLENT." I love this man, where can I get one?

Mr. Tilneys smile
Very nice acting, I can feel as though these characters are more believable than other Jane Austen characters who are much refined. Well done!
Her fantasies and dreams are so funny. I like it even more than in the book. Keeps me laughing all the time.
Mr Tilney's got Lee pace's face and stature with Jake Gyllenhaal's smile and attitude. Lovely!
tilney and catharine are so adorable :)
Austen also Northanger Abbey to poke fun of the Gothic novels and their stereotypes, one of which was having the man pining after the girl. She wanted to switch it up a bit! :)

"He understands muslin!" Yeah, that's a good argument xD
...danced with one man, was stared at by another...much more handsome.
LOL, Tilney fishing for a compliment there?
I love Tilney's smirk and his teasing Catherine while they are dancing. J.J Field and Felicity Jones have become my Henry and Catherine. I actually prefer this version to the 1981 one.
So glad you didn't forget to mention the nice guy's that also love watching Jane Austin adaptation's as well. Thankyou very much, most agreeable.
what I like about Jane Austen's novels is that there are always dance scenes...they are so beautiful..
^_^
This movie is adorable.
"He understands muslin!" That's going to be my answer to everything now. :)

His voice is so amazing and he's so sweet! But Mr. Darcy is still my number one.
Ah yes, Mr. Tilney (sigh) I love how playful and happy he is. And that crooked little smile paired with that smolder thing he does with his eyes... now THAT would make any girl weak at the knees ; )
Mr Allan is soo funny, Mr Tilney is soooo adorable!!
xD her fantasy is running around freely xDD it is sooo funny to look at the things she is thinking of xD her own, little and absolute funny stories xD
I love the actress who plays Mrs. Allen, she has just the right combination of propriety and frivolity. She played Fanny Price in the older version of Mansfield Park.
i love the dance conversation... so modern.
their dialogue while they're dancing is so funny!
He's eyes remind me of Robert Downey and his stature reminds me of Jude Law. What a combination of Holmes and Dr. Watson in a man! Such rarity! ^_^
I love his "smirk".
H:Ready?
K: Yes.
H:How long have you been in Bath Madam?
K: Not long at all Sir!
H: Were you never here before?
K: Never Sir!

LOL! I love their chemistry. Another amazing Jane Austen couple that I have fallen deeply in love with :-)
Just love the music of the time!
I like the way she's dreaming with open eyes.
2:25 Best scene of the movie! That smile...oh god. :D I'm in love with Mr.Tinley.
"Northanger Abbey? Is it haunted?" Love it.
This is one of my all times fav movie.....the only book i really like from Jane Austen sigh gosh i really do wish that i lived during that time, everything was soo poetic....(sigh) ...lol
im infatuated with him at the moment
Aww, man the movie left out Henry's response, "Perhaps you are not sitting in this room, and I am not sitting by you..." Maybe it was because they were dancing, but the original comeback was awesome.
I like those little 'gothic romance' scenes they show. Who hasn't let their imagination wander like that now and then? ;)
It's so funny to think how dances went from "this" to "bump n grind"
lol!
Mr. Tilney is remarkably charming and attractive despite the fact that he is looking down on the world in general.
But isn't that quite realistic? It happens often nowadays that until one has confessed their feelings, the other doesn't realize a thing. You could make the case for Lizzie and Darcy being the same way - Lizzie didn't realize she liked Darcy so much until after the proposal and seeing Pemberley.
oh how i wish there were more men like Mr Tilney today in our world!!!!!! The world would be a better place hahaha!!!!!!!!!! ^_^
I prefer the dancing back then at parties then the dancing at parties today =)
Finally! Someone dancing Childgrove (or any English country dance) properly!
I'm in the same position you're in... Trying to find the book so I can read it...
And I should be writing a term paper right now instead... :/
I just fell in love with Mr. Tinley...
I loooove him so much... SMIRK GOD!
"He understands lace...!" LOL
Some groups are springing up that do!
I've done it. It is super fun!!!!
The Allens are sooo adorable :3
the girl who plays catherine is pretty. i read the book for a class, and when i was reading it, i pictured someone more plain, she doesn't really seem plain
Henry understands muslin that is completely enough for Mrs Allen xD
he understands MUSLIN, Mr. Allam. Yes, that changes everything!
"I imagine he likes what he sees"
"What, do you mean me?"
No, he's gay...of course he means you
LMAO
he understands "Muslin", Mr. Allen!
It does look fun! I would love to do that.
@ultimavaraThanks a lot, yes it is an amazing tune, soft and tender. god bless.
lol I just love her imagination hahaha
yes you MUST watch Persuasion. Captain Wentworth is so handsome :)
Henry is such a flirt
lol finally someone's on the same page as me lol but guess we all have our taste..i love his hair too..wouldnt mind having him kiss me all over lol (the final scene in P&P)
and i love the part where he first tells her how he feels and she's all against him and he just about kisses her but holds himself. most guys would just go ahead and kiss her but he respected her.
he isn't bad I like him, but Darcy is far more dashing and romantic
for goodness sake mr. allen, he understands muslin
Eekkss. I NEED TO READ THIS BOOK AGAIN!
agreed! Mrs Allan is ridiculous but for more likeable than say Mrs Norris or Mrs Bennet :)
haha i love mr tilney! hes so funny
i prefer this version to that of the book
I have to say, I indeed like Mr. Tilney more than Mr. Darcy. Oh dear me! LOL.
LOL, that's kind of like "take a number"
I totally see Jude Law as Mr. Tilney
This is a good adaptation, but they cut some of my favorite lines! Isn't Mrs Allen the actress that played Fanny Price in Mansfield Park. Now I understand what a "crush" is. Thanks
I think I like Mr. Tilney better. He has a good sense of humor
Bah, forget Darcy! I'll take a Tilney any day.
2:09 The blond gentlemen is a creepy troll.
I love Henry Tilney :)
Indeed you did espy Carey Mulligan (I went and looked it up myself to be sure). :D
perhaps this is the most funny novel by jane austen...
she's so cute!!
i love it !!
I should say he isnt so good looking as mr.darcy but I must say he has a good personality so funny and kind XD hahahahaha I like him lol
Hmmm... I haven't read the book... I will soon.. but.. it's weird to actually meet someone and dance with him at the first ball you go to in a whole new place... isn't it!? and what's even more weird is that I'm watching this instead of studying!! :|

The funnest way of dealing with the standard topics of conversation, but it requires two people with the same sense of humor.
I think that is the same dance from BBC Pride and Prejudice when Lizzy first Dances with Mr. Darcy. a
i love darcy but i really like tinley, he has a sarcastic humor about him and a charm that is kinda bad boy like (but not really if you know what i mean) there is just something his 'cool' attitude that i like.
i know Lmao
So funny i love this book so much
