I work with resin alot myself Rybonator, and i find that if you mix the gold leaf in the resin before pouring make them float in place in the resin and disperse more easily. if you want thicker pieces of gold, mix it just alittle just before before pouring, cause the more you mix the leaf (or flakes) the smaller the pieces will be in the resin. it makes it so much easier that mixing it in the mold and looks really pretty.

Of course my friend! I am glad that I was able to help you out in some way :) I'd also recommend checking out the dice making discoveries facebook group, as there is a large bunch of people on there that are willing to help as well!
@@Rybonator that's amazing! I will totally check them out! Thank you! I think expression of gratitude is really important, and for saving me probably hundreds of hours, is definitely something to be grateful for! Keep up the amazing videos
Seeing this was a great reference! I'm trying to make dice using molding putty but I was unsure how to form the base. Can't wait to see what else you'll create!
A few tricks i learned while making my molds: 1) if getting a fimo is a problem use heat glue - cut a tiny piece from the stick with exacto knife, heat it over a candle while holding it on the blade, stick to your dice and then stick dice to your container. Do this fast and you are good to go 2) you don't need to add registration marks now, you can just cut random pieces on edges once this layer is cured 3) milk or juice boxes as containers work great since they don't get sticky at all so you can skip the vaseline step, however to make sure your superglue sticks, scratch the place to get rid of that nonsticky layer where you want to glue down your dice 4) baby powder + soft brush are your friend, apply well over the surface where your second part touches and brush it nicely into all crooks and nooks before pouring the second layer. That's it.
I would love to see a video where you try out different types of resin and let us know which ones work best. I know you love art and glow but it's awesome to see other brands and how they work.
Ok ik this is an older video, but you can put your mixed resin in the pressure pot to pop the bubbles before you pour the dice, it can really minimise them in the end result
I was watching that clip of you using the knife and thought man I would slice my thumb if I cut towards me..... I guess I’m not alone! But I’m definitely going to try this mold method!
Rybonator I've been on your discord for about a month now learning from all the members there and finding methods that worked for making dice. I've had some success and even learned how to get more out of my 3d printer. I was literally just about to start looking for a method like this and man I'm glad you did it. Could we possibly get a video someday about resin experiments with different types and how they effect inclusions such as opal imitation flakes or ground materials?
@@Rybonator My experiments so far have yielded good results with East coast Epoxy brand when the material is vacuumed before pouring. It's so thick with mica flakes and other additives that the amount of air is a bit above what the pressure can adjust for, but it still looks amazing. There is a picture of some of the dice in your discord
Maybe try using hot glue, put a big dab and squish them till paper thin let it dry and cut of the excess. Maybe that will save some cutting time so you do not have to cut into the silicone
Great video as usual! Also I rewatched your die hard dice review and decided to finally get some sets last night (and I mentioned you of course). Can't wait for them to come in and see what I get as a freebie, thank you for the recommendation!
Ok so I tried this using the regular smooth on silicone and while it worked, I have decided that dragon skin is infinitely better. I had a piece on the dice mold tear while separating the two halves. Plus the smooth on can be a little too floppy to work with. I also decided to add sprues to the top piece. And while not pretty it did certainly work well. I really feel like this mold (with sprues) is the best of all molds I’ve tried. It gave direct access to the dice so you can manipulate the colors and mixes while also having a reservoir for some extra resin. The biggest pain for me was cleaning the petroleum jelly off after finishing the mold. I used Vick’s vapo rub because that’s what I had lol. Anyways thank you so much for this video. I feel confident that this is the mold I will use for the foreseeable future
Good thing to note with making registration marks on really any two piece mold. If you don't have a substance like clay, or you just forgot to make the marks due to small oversight You can make the Keys before you start creating the 2nd part of the mold (so long as your vessel is still intact). Take an ex-acto knife and make your keys by carving out small channels in the silicone (making them A-symetric is important ), just make sure you keep the marks a bit from your actual mold piece (maybe a cm or 2) - I personally find that triangular Key channels have worked best for me and recommend them over squared keys that youd get from using a die ( they just align a little bit better) Tip x2" you can spray a layer of spray paint clear coat on your mold piece and itll prevent the second pour from sticking (though this will probably/may affect the texture of you casts - you see the same effect from the Vaseline in the video) its just easier if you dont need that glass texture replication silicone is perfect at doing
This is a good point! I usually use ball bearings in mine if I can, but since we had clay and need it for the dice, I wanted to go ahead and use it here :) The triangle style is a great way to go!
I have been meaning to make some new molds down the road, might just try this out honestly. Also for those who can't get liquid glitter, like myself because Amazon sellers are insane with the prices, I found that certain nail polishes that only have a glitter like effect works pretty good. One warning tho, I would recommend using mold release before using them, some of the older molds had all the numbers pulled out of them because the nail polish dried them out allot more then I thought they would, which is fine since they were test molds anyway. They had more problems then solutions so they were bound to letting me test new ideas out when ever they came up.
Sprue molds with removable caps, that sounds very convenient for making full sets like this. If I ever get into making dice, I'll probably use that for a method.
So, this my preferred method, and I would just like to drop a little tip: Instead of using clay to stick the dice down, you can line the bottom of your mold box with low tack tape (sticky side up) so the entire face is covered and you dont have to trim the silicone before making the cap. It has given me a much cleaner finish and i have virtually no cleanup except for a little bit of trimming.
I just watched your video on recoloring the numbers on your dice this morning. Back in the day of AD&D we used crayons to fill in the numbers on the dice and change the colors. You just rub the crayon across the number until the wax fills it in and buff the top.
I always tap my molds and squeeze them a bit to help get the excess air out. I actually push my molds caps down really firmly to get it as flush as possible, and usually don’t have issues with bubbles.
@@Rybonator I was thinking stim toys in general, but yeah. I mean, even a ball or tube that could by squashed or stretched would be handy for neuro-atypical people. Yeah, that's the most likely intended use.
My resin goals absolutely involve putting stuff in dice so this method is perfect for what I want! Now I know exactly what materials I should actually invest in! :) I also have so little desire to clean up dice haha 😂 And a rose gold would look great on the green set!
I think you should ink those green and clear ones with the like outline method using green ink. It would compliment the colour scheme and not detract from the mystic look of the dice!
Good timing! I'm going to be making new molds soon and was thinking about doing cap molds! I was thinking of using a reservoir in the cap for mine, I don't mind trimming the sprue and I want to make sure there's enough resin for it to work with
One of these days I will make my own dice, but until then I'll just keep on soaking up information from you o great Goblin Shepard! Also I love the puns :D
@@Rybonator sorry if this is a dumb question, but even if you were to have a vacuum chamber for the resin or use other tactics to eliminate bubbles beforehand?
A cool idea would be to use those bubbly ones that "failed" and use a case casting like you have been doing because that bubble effect is awesome and would look fantastic inside a solid case.
you should probably add the "cloud" color a little earlier in the mix, that way the cloud should be more in the center of the cube, unless you wanted it to be more towards the side that is on the top of your mold.
@@Rybonator Oh heck yes! I immediately got the idea of the snap figures like he makes from the dice of different styles. When you take all the joints apart you have a set of dice too! Edit: the Gylos style figs.
Hey Ryan. I know this is an old video but the non pressurized casting isn’t totally without merit. That effect could look pretty interesting in a set of shell dice. Might try that (kinda similar to dragon scale dice)

I've been wanting skillshare for awhile and I snagged one of the 2 months thank to you
Awesome. Thanks for sharing, if I will ever get my hands on all the equipment, I will try this method i think :D
It's a great starter method to be sure!
The bubbly ones look really cool to me like i know theyre not useable at all but they have a cool visual texture in my opinion
Perfect! I just bought my first silicon mold mix and this method will definitely save some money too!
Nailed the SkillShare transition!
I love your videos so much but your puns at the beginning are always the best part.
I just watched your video on recoloring the numbers on your dice this morning. Back in the day of AD&D we used crayons to fill in the numbers on the dice and change the colors. You just rub the crayon across the number until the wax fills it in and buff the top.
ive been planning on starting to make dice and youve helped me understand so much. thank you!
I always tap my molds and squeeze them a bit to help get the excess air out. I actually push my molds caps down really firmly to get it as flush as possible, and usually don’t have issues with bubbles.
gonna have to try this squish/cap mold method. It looks much easier to get pretty looking dice the first go.
I love the green petri swirl set I think they will look amazing inked with gold and metallic green together
Your puns never get old, i kinda needed that goofiness tonight. Thanks Rybonator. And that's before the vid has even gotten 1/4 through.
-"Dragon Skin"
- very durable
- Thiccc
I think I know the original purpose of this product, lol.
Squishy Dice... right? ... right :(
@@Rybonator ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I mean, it's not bad
I mean, a fine product such as this can't come from a bad dragon right?
@@Rybonator I was thinking stim toys in general, but yeah. I mean, even a ball or tube that could by squashed or stretched would be handy for neuro-atypical people. Yeah, that's the most likely intended use.
My resin goals absolutely involve putting stuff in dice so this method is perfect for what I want! Now I know exactly what materials I should actually invest in! :) I also have so little desire to clean up dice haha 😂
And a rose gold would look great on the green set!
I think you should ink those green and clear ones with the like outline method using green ink. It would compliment the colour scheme and not detract from the mystic look of the dice!
Good timing! I'm going to be making new molds soon and was thinking about doing cap molds! I was thinking of using a reservoir in the cap for mine, I don't mind trimming the sprue and I want to make sure there's enough resin for it to work with
Green+gold flake= druid royalty feels
Also the goblin animation!!! Is it new or did I JUST notice that 😅
Only came out last video, so still very new :)
Also YES, totally a golden forest feel :)
YES! I have made anywhere from 2 to 4 different molds for my dice and they all have failed. I can’t wait to try this version
The gold and bronze dice look really cool as decorational dice, they remind me of those Haribo gummy soda bottles
One of these days I will make my own dice, but until then I'll just keep on soaking up information from you o great Goblin Shepard!
Also I love the puns :D
Cool. The final ones look great
Would love to try this but I could afford the pressure pot just to try it. The dice look great. I actually like the gold one
The Pressure pot isn't ABSOLUTELY necessary, though you will get a lot of bubbles in this style :/ So it's hard to recommend without it.
@@Rybonator sorry if this is a dumb question, but even if you were to have a vacuum chamber for the resin or use other tactics to eliminate bubbles beforehand?
A cool idea would be to use those bubbly ones that "failed" and use a case casting like you have been doing because that bubble effect is awesome and would look fantastic inside a solid case.
since you like gold a lot, how about gold leaf gold dice with gold glitter and gold lettering, with the gaps filled in with gold
Gold on gold on gold on gold. I like it :)
you should probably add the "cloud" color a little earlier in the mix, that way the cloud should be more in the center of the cube, unless you wanted it to be more towards the side that is on the top of your mold.
I was aiming for it to be on one side this time around :)
I noticed the reference to TheCrafsMan. Basically the only other channel I watch for this kind of content.
He is fantastic! On my top 5 "wanna collab with" list for sure.
@@Rybonator Oh heck yes!
I immediately got the idea of the snap figures like he makes from the dice of different styles. When you take all the joints apart you have a set of dice too!
Edit: the Gylos style figs.
This is awesome! Thanks so much for the guide!
Absolutely love it!
Glad you liked it :)
It would be cool if you could fill the voids in the failed snake skin dice with clear resin to make a snake skin dice set.
Hey Ryan. I know this is an old video but the non pressurized casting isn’t totally without merit. That effect could look pretty interesting in a set of shell dice. Might try that (kinda similar to dragon scale dice)
Always worth a shot! :)
your video stayed in my top recomanded for like 3 days straight, it's either cuz I binge watched lods of your older videos recently, either the youtube algorithm just really liked it XD
I think it was a bit of both XD
I've watched so many vids of you I needed a break from dices XD
but the algorithm kept insisting, so I was like huh fine, and clicked XDDD
Eyy hyped for the new video
Hope it didn't disappoint!
