Awesome work as usual!!! I've made boxes with prefabbed molds and it ends up being a fair amount of work trying to get the lids to seat correctly as the sides of the molds are thin and do flex. Other than leveling issues the only other problem was shrinkage ofthe epoxy. Is the new resin you used better in that aspect?
I don't now why but it drives me crazy that the lids of the roundboxes go over the edge of the box. It disturbs my inner monk. But they look great and the big one ist so cool.
Is there a size limit on the boxes one can make with this? I have soooo many dice and would love to have them in a pretty box instead of a bag that refuses to stand up ever >:(
I have a box I want to cast, it has a somewhat complex design carved into the top of the lid, what would be a suggested way of making the mold? If I do it the same way you did then my design will end up being the on the "open face"... is a 2-part mold my only option?
Help I need a Tipp. I've tried to make some glow in the dark dice but the pigments all sank to the lowest point in the mold. So now I have a glowing blop in a corner of the dice. Has someone a Tipp how I can avoid this for the next try.
0:10 how do I get my hands on those metal/purple dice, I would kill for them (and some of your other creations) and I own 0 dice at the moment, because this is the beginning of my addiction.
Helpful tip for larger silicone molds like this. AS you're doing other mold projects save all your silicone scraps. Cut them up into smaller chunks and you can use them as filler for cases exactly like this where you don't want to waste silicone filling large voids.
Yep. I've been using this trick for a bit now. Luckily I came across this tip early on in my resin/silicone research. I even save the little shreds from the silicone mixing cups.
Oh dangit, I shoulda saved all my junked silicone molds that I'd made and then gave up on rather than throwing them away. I'm not going to stress too much about that right now (trying to get rid of some of my "junk" so that I have less stuff to pack when I finally move), but I'll definitely remember this.
Rybonator ok. Have you put any thought into doing a video on layered resin dice? Or putting images inside them? I just thought those would be interesting.
@@Rybonator Ever thought about taking commissions on dice if you'd rather not mass-make to sell? I love the way you do your dice as whole, so it'd be great fun to commission a custom set! Could also be interesting on doing a video about trying to make dice within the parameters of someone else's ideas.
first of all: love these boxes, especially the purple one, because i loooveeed those purple dice i got an idea recently and it got stuck in my head, but it´s probably really ambitious and complicated: enviroment dice. like there is a lil cute enviroment in the dice, maybe a tree or a little beach or lake so i don´t know if dice are too little for that, but i at least wanted to write this idea down because i don´t have the time, the patience nor the equipment to do something like that :D
I've seen some people do things like that in extra large d20s. Off the top of my head I've seen one with a ship on the ocean (which I am not-so-patiently waiting for the maker to start selling) and another that showed kraken tentacles rising from water (which was sadly a one-off that auctioned for waaaay more than I can spend on dice). I've also got a set of dice with actual seashells on a "beach" which I like a lot.
You can possibly do resin layer painting--make a couple small disks of resin, paint them to the effect you want for that layer with whatever you're comfortable using, then glue them together inside your mold with more resin--but its only going to be visible from certain angles, even if you paint both top and bottom of each layer. You can plug "resin layer painting" into youtube to find a few examples, but not any dice. Another possibility is making premade, extra tiny charms for special objects like trees, etc., painting those, and casting your dice in layers--like top is clear sky and clouds, upper middle layer for alcohol ink to make water and inserting fish charms, lower middle layer for rocks and seaweed and a darker alcohol ink, bottom is mica powder to look like sand. You'd just have to be careful what you make the charms out of and how much glitter, sand, or whatever you're adding to avoid weighting the dice too badly.
I may actually do this 👀 I'm waiting on my dice molds to arrive, my resin and other things got here a week or so ago. When I make my test stuff, I'll try to share on Discord 👀
