But it's soooo fun! I just completed setup of my pressure pot and my first set was great. The hard part is being patient enough to give it 12-24 hours in the pot 😝
I started looking at Rybonators videos and they are great, but I really love how well you explain the process here. I've refrained from jumping into this as the part after taking dices out of the mold seems hard (for a butter finger like me), but watching this, I'm reconsidering. Thanks :-)
"All right so you have your workshop all set up however messy it may be after a short while" Hey man, you didn't need to call me out like that at the beginning of the video like that man.
Found you by accident but after reading your channel description decided to check out what you do … I decided to subscribe because I think we share that love of craft and creation….. well done
these are perfect cubes. A real game/roll die is the intersection of a cube and a sphere (e.g. cube size 1, sphere diameter1.4) . Nevertheless, great video, I learn a lot :)
Thanks for the info I have gotten into making dice and I use a different mold than you do and trying to learn to get my bubbles out and I think I got it but not the polish and sanding part. Tha k you
Ugh all of my dice still end up with super matte faces that contrast to the glossy un-sanded faces. I used from 120 all the way up to 3000 with zonas polishing and the plastix. I dont know where im going wrong
You need to go even higher on your grit towards he end. 8000 grit at 1 micron has done well for me. They have .5 micron. I may try this eventually. I get a pretty nice shine. (If you can avoid the 120, I would. I wouldn't start with anything lower than 400 but preferably 800. Just go with the highest that you can get away with and still remove the material that needs removed.)
@@MichaelMakes They're OUT of STOCK! loottables.com/product/ultraviolet-resin-dice-set/ Can you make me a set? I could just buy them straight from you.
What can I do to remove the resin dust from crevices in my die? Almost all my numbers and even surfaces end up with a white dirty-looking film on them that i can't remove
Great Video! Super quick questions about sanding: Do you only sand the sides affected by the sprew or all the sides? Also do you sand the entire face of a dice? I heard somewhere that sanding over the numbers would ruin it, wanted to see if it was true before I went too far in the deep end!
You have to remember that when you make a mold from masters it will show every scratch. You should always sand every side of your masters, not just the side touching the sprue. If you get your masters like glass you will have way less to do when you make dice from your masters. Polish won't hide the issues.
Can you please link a video of how you get this color when making these specific dice? I love the nebula color , and I would like to know how to get that color in dice making.
This Blue Mimic guys prices are insane. To get a no support sanded and polished set of masters it will cost you around $500! What kind of BS pricing is that? NO WAY am I paying that much money for some custom dice.
It's well worth the price. You can get masters from a lot of other places for cheaper but you will spend more time finishing them. You will also spend another $50 buying inhibit-x so you can make molds that won't react to these 3D prints.
@@cartotech81 Actually I went through DruidDice and payed less than half the price got amazing quality masters and customer service and have no need for inhibitx due to the type of silicone I use. So, once again Blue mimic is grossly over priced. I will say that I sanded and polished the masters myself and that he does offer to do the service for you but even if you pay for him to do that it's still cheaper than The Blue Mimic.
New dice maker here, Does it matter when using masters to make your own mould do you need to have the masters shiney to make shiney dice or could they be matte? (Stupid question I bet but I’d love to know)
The sprue would be a bit unwieldy and hard to get level, which is why I like the two separate cuts, but you could totally make it work if you wanted to!
I’ve been struggling with air bubbles in my molds. I let the resin sit in warm water to get rid of the bubbels. But when I use a pipet to get the resin in my molds, a lot of air gets in. Does anyone have any tips for this?
So, we're just gonna use "a dice" now, huh? Like how "literally" now can mean "really"? It's not a big deal, but if a Dice Maker uses the word that way, the ship has sailed, right?
You and Rybonator are really not helping my dice gremlin tendencies with making this process look so simple 😂
Oh no.... I apologize in advance for one of the next couple videos...

Thank you so much!! If you’re interested I say get started! It’s a fun hobby to create stuff!
Notice how he uses ruber bands to keep his molds together....scary
Its like I am looking at a dice nightmare
Although nothing wrong with that, but I can go wrong sometimes
@@magicfighter1025 if you knew how molds work you'd understand the rubberbands.
Great informative video. One suggestion: safety glasses. Especially when cutting with the snips and exacto. Keep it up. 👍

Beautiful dice

If you wet the sandpaper and lay it on a sheet of glass you can guarantee that it stays perfectly flat and even

Does MicroMesh give a better result than regular sandpaper? i bought a set of unfinished dice and i dont have the suplies to finish them yet.
Do all sides need to be sanded for a nice polished finish?
You are a life saver
Do you sand all the sides of a dice?
I followed your technique but after polishing, my dice are still very matte and dull. Any tips?
Rotary tool and polish really helps from my experience

Do you have written directions/ steps on these? Thanks
Question for you, how do you get the color like that on the uv dice? The purple & blue ones.... what brand of ink, color, etc....
Great video!
I couldn’t find any links to the on-demand 3D printing place. What company was it again?
The Blue Mimic! www.etsy.com/shop/TheBlueMimic
Totally sounds like Legundo, even the mannerisms and vocal pattern. Even looks like the guy.
More hair though.

Very helpful, thanks!
You kind of glossed over the buffing part. Are you just using the microfiber rag to remove the PlastX? Something more involved? Thanks!

Do you sand each side of the die, or just the parts touching the nib?
Just the ones affected by the sprue until the higher grits.
@@MichaelMakes So when you get to the micromesh, then you start sanding the whole die?
It depends on how things look. For sure on the polish, like I mentioned, but if a face seems dull it might get the last one or two micro mesh levels.

How much is a millimeter in American? I don't understand French measurements.
Do you mean the metric system that is used by the entire world outside of handful of countries?

The masters don't HAVE to be polished but if you want the final product to be polished and shiny than you'll have more sanding to do later
good video and interesting. nice to interact with you.
Question! Do you still end up with super tiny blemishes at the end?
Probably an obvious answer but would it be possible to just use the knife rather than cutting it off with shears first

Who did you say makes the custom dice mould?
Nevermind, I found it. The Blue Mimic on Etsy. Thanks for the lead!
hi, i had a quick question. how do you get the polishing paste out of the numbers on the dice? i've been having so much trouble with that.
Ive been using toothpicks! It’s tedious, but it’s the best method I’ve found
Use less polish
Where can i get mold like that? I cant make them myself
blue mimic on etsy i think
Anyone able to find the link for his craft pruning shears? searching amazon just gives me garden tools that would be too unwieldy for cutting sprues
I actually grabbed those at a Michael's, so I wouldn't have the exact brand online, sorry!
My dice got scratches how do I fix it
w8, if you say these can break from catching on a micro mesh, how TF are you supposed to use them for rolling on a table... that is you know; hard =.=
A sharp point getting caught in the weave of the fabric is a bit different than rolling on a table though.

Pressure casting helps a lot with this! The other thing is to make sure you don't have bubbles in then pipette before injecting into the mold.
Check out spellcaster dice on Instagram. Makes great dice and no pressure pot.

Do you make custom requested dice?
Not at the moment with the Kickstarter coming up and a bunch of orders to fill, but maybe some day soon!

you would have to charge 100 per set to make money back on your time.

Depends who you speak to. I stick with a die. Some dice.
