watching a jack stauber vid as its released feels really weird, like you dont know what to expect and you watch it and you cant understand a thing he is saying but you can sense a message but you really cant fully grasp it.
My running theory about this is that the TV is the mirror cause shows and advertising is meant to show us what we "SHOULD" look like. What we "SHOULD" want. Showing us more "exciting" versions of our lives but in the end just being lies of unattainable dreams to make other people money.
The end could be representing how, yearning after a life that you will never get will ultimately leave you drowning in your hopes and dreams that will never be achieved. Hence the tv spilling water to then drown the man who had been obssessed with watching the television. He drowns with sadness as he realizes that he could never achieve such a life for himself.

Hey guys, I may sound annoying but I really want an opinion I made a cover of this song and an extended version, and I think it almost sounds cool So I was wondering about if anyone is actually gonna watch it if I post it What do you think...?
I think this is about how a guy wants to be a perfect reflection of what he sees on television. For instance in 0:18 he sees a happier version of himself and feels anxiety about not being able to live up to that. So then in 0:23 he literally inspects every fine detail that exists ever within this televised world looking for an ounce of meaning within himself. But trying to be like fiction (that is, unrealistic but great), he finds himself alone. I imagine the goldfish surrounding him (0:32) are just the people he sees as simple-minded (goldfish are known supposedly for not being smart and having a terrible sense of memory). The real world is known for being dark and bleak, like the water around him, and the goldfish are perfectly suited to this environment, unlike him. The image of the drowning face at 0:39 possibly represents the guy's emotional state as being drowned in a neverending feeling of expectation and overwhelment. The world of the TV is drowning him, literally and metaphorically.
Wow u really take it and break it down I realized that his songs are different and WITH a deep meaning and I'm wondering that maybe he's making them because. Nobody really understand them I try to look What the meaning to his songs I found: depressed, trapped, small, darkness. He's representing the world being small and dark and so many things are happening.
It used to frustrate me that I couldn't understand his songs and videos but at the end of the day I can get the basic point as long as I don't overthink it. I get the emotions of the song and the sentiment even if I can't understand exactly what it means, just goes to show how good his work is
There’s usually an initial meaning placed by the artist, but that’s just their interpretation. Sometimes the public even disagrees with them - and they made it! There’s no right or wrong, it’s totally up to you. Art is freedom!
I think also a lot of the time, at least in the art I create it just pours out sometimes and the artist doesn't even know what it means until reflection. Some people like to analyse art which is fair, but I always prefer to just let stuff like this be what it is and not analyse it too hard. It does depend on the type of art though, like a film like the Lighthouse for example I would want to pick apart of deeper meaning, but a david lynch film I would just take it in and feel the emotions.@@PVNCHES
Theory: I think it’s about how we see ourselves (and by extension base our expectations of ourselves) on television. In the video the television is constantly referred to as a mirror, and the protagonist sees himself inside it.
My theory: I think this one's about being insecure. The mirror/tv stands for how he views himself. At the beginning you can see that he's kissing someone on the tv. At that moment he is viewing himself as someone better and more confident than he actually is. After that (0:08) we see his true self, sitting on the couch being lazy and being a normal person. At 0:13 you can see him freaking out over being shown on tv. Maybe at that moment he's viewing his true self and reflecting on himself. In the song he's singing "What we see can show us what we don't know" which means that he was unaware of himself being uninteresting. This guy is not very confident and gets anxious, for not being special. Now he's feeling small, as implied in the song and at 0:21 where he's looking at a small tv (=little confidence) At the end (0:28) water is coming out of the tv, (standing for self doubt) which he is swimming in a lot a moment later. In the last shot we can see him drowning in it. (Sorry for bad grammar I'm not a native English speaker)
that’s really interesting! but after they sing “what we see can show us what we don’t know” he sings “did I say don’t, I mean you show us what we know” but I think that’s because deep down he knows who he really is but is to occupied in his own “better” version of himself. But in the end he realizes who he really is like you said. That’s what I think :)
My theory is that jack knows how messed up in the head and nuts we all are which is why he makes these to try and make us come up with theories and he’s just sitting back and enjoying, possibly laughing at all the things were coming up with and none of this really means anything. Or could be the complete opposite and that we haven’t even scratched the surface of what he’s trying to communicate. either way his creations are beautiful😌
I like the first "theory" it's basically what the creator of salad fingers did lol. Fun fact, theories are technically just analysis through "death of the author"
That's not a bad idea, but Jack has openly admitted that he always hides meaning in his songs. Some of them are easier to decipher, like the "Shop: a Pop Opera" collection he made for Adult Swim. Because they were going to air these on TV, he had to make them simpler to understand. I think that proves that he normally makes these songs with a deeper meaning intended (that is normally hard to understand) and he's just waiting for us to theorize.
Sama Albaik I believe jack does LSD , this video seems like a strong representation of how an acid trip feels , first he feels scared but turns on the tv and is lost into the world of color , he’s hungry , and he feels new , but it gets darker and he feels trapped like he can’t get out of the trip ( so fourth the drowning sensation)
My take on lyrics: Mirror mirror on the wall What's it like to be so small? Your vision is invisible Mirror mirror on the wall What's it like to see us all? Taken in the 3D plane But don't take up anything And what we see Will show us what we don't know (Did I say don't? I mean you show us what we know) Mirror mirror on the wall What's it like to be so small? You're knowing that you want more Ding ding ding ding
Best set of lyrics on here, only change to make is (Did I say *don't*? I mean you show us what we know), replacing "no" with "don't". These lyrics are shown on the TV at 0:20
I would also change invisible to electrical. Edit: I have listened to it again, and you’re probably right about it not being electrical. But I don’t think it’s invisible or invincible either, that doesn’t line up with the rest of the lyrics and the theme.
hey does anybody know how he managed to get the screaming underwater effect at the end? like the lips are moving that way which is already amazing claymation but the water bubbles look like they're moving in real time??? and on top of that the clay model is clearly underwater u can tell by the little air bubbles on the face. i'm like mind blown can anybody explain how he did it? (another amazing project btw jack great work💞)
I think he recorded the sound by literally putting his face underwater and screaming, then putting some effects to make it more acoustic And then he animated to make it look like the animation is extremely accurate I mean... This is the simpliest way I can think of, but Jack is pretty unexpected
in a patreon post of him showing off how he did some stuff he basically put the face on the tube with a hole in the mouth and blew into it underwater. simple yet effective
this sounds like the kind of song that would get extended, especially because of the few frames where there is a tv with big eyes looking at the screen just like the other cover arts, I’m calling it right now
"What we see could show us what we don't know". It's fleeing to escapism (TV, movies, games, fiction, even reading this comment) thinking that you're going to find something that can fill your insecurities and flaws. "Did I say don't I mean you show us what we know"; as in, you know for a fact what your insecurities are, you know for a fact how to fix them. The problem is that the escapist fantasy is far too enticing, flashy, and spellbinding to detach from, even if it doesn't actually solve our problems. Eventually it comes to a point where you're drowning in your own loneliness and isolation.
Here's what the small text on the TV appears to say: "My sincerest apologies, I hope this clears that up. For more, look inside the spring! Remember to always hold your breath!" Not too sure about the spring sentence, but that's my best guess right now.
It’s symbolizing having addiction, wasting his time with screen time, and getting caught up in his emotions, specifically sadness, and realizing he made this so much into a habit that he can’t get out of it, and it’s become an addiction
oh my gosh! the water spilling out of the tv at the end... and the face screaming underwater! so well done!! everything you make is just such a treat... thank you for the wonderful content!
I rlly like his music bc like, its just so cool. You can interpret your own meaning to it, theorize about the meaning itself, or just vibe. Jacks music is just truly special
My theory is that this guy is addicted to watching his tv and sees an idealised version of himself reflected in a tv show character. This tv guy has a girl and a life whereas the guy in reality is just trapped watching tv and living vicariously through this distorted mirror image version of himself. As he becomes more and more unlike this perfect tv character, he spirals downwards more and searches for a way to live in the tv. He looks into the cables and eventually breaks the tv screen - only to realise there’s nothing behind it. He’s stuck in the real world and he’s drowning in his own fantasies
I love the animation, it's so much smoother, especially the ending with the water flowing out of the tv and the drowning man!! good job Jack!! Also, the song is lovely!!
He tried to clean it's screen by using a microscope but then it backfired and he got backfired. And died With fish And chips But not fish and chips Just fish And chips @
I think the theory behind this is the song is straight up facts. A tv is small yet has so much control over our lives, and when we don’t control our own lives it feels like we are drowning. 🤷♀️
Ok I saw a theory that this is the past version of Opals dad, at first I thought it was insane, but hearing the mirror bit and seeing his face being shoved in the water, seemingly not by him (possibly the mother), made me think it could be a possibility
Let's be honest, this is meant to be extended. The tv with eyes? That's definitely the new micropop EP cover. And around 0:26, you can hear a cut, suggesting there was more song to hear at that part.
Theory: This is about Mirror Man right after everyone turns him down. He sees himself as a successful man on TV or in this case the “mirror” when in reality he's a depressed mess. which is the same thing that we see in Opal; We see him as a “successful” man with seemingly pleasant facial features but as soon as we stop seeing his view of himself we see a disturbing ugly man. And at the end of the video we see people getting sucked into the TV or the “Mirror” in this instance implying that Mirror man wants everyone to see what he thinks of himself.
My theory on this is that the guy kept seeing everyone else around him finding love and being happy, hence the kissing couple on the tv. Though when he looked in the mirror he felt small and empty. This kept consuming him at deeper and deeper levels and he couldn't take it anymore. I think he was drowning in his sorrow. Which is what I think the fish and end scene stand for.
Nicholle Miller I think it’s just what he sees on the TV. The TV has a major influence on him, and like how people are affected, their attitude, and their aptitude, he too is being changed and it majorly affects himself and the people around him
Oskar Nations I think it’s good because it gets attention to Jack stauber music but honestly I don’t want to go through another month of seeing the same meme in my notifications again...
Theory: this is Claire’s grandpa in his youth, the line “ your vision isn’t on the wall” Represents the grandpa being blind, and the guy gasping for air at the end is the grandpa breathing because in his song he is gasping for air
My take on the lyrics: Mirror Mirror on the wall, What's it like to be so small? Your vision is invisible. Mirror Mirror on the wall What's it like to see us all? Taking up a 3D plane But dont take up anything. You seem to show us what we dont know! (Did I say dont I said you show us what we know) Mirror Mirror on the wall, What's it like to be so small? You're noone and you want more. (Ding ding ding ding..) **Drowning noises**
Edit: y’all are pissing me off calling this comment cringe just because I was happy about the song so I changed it. Way to ruin someone’s mood -_- jack stauber: posts me, an intellectual: *agressive mouse clicking*
And dont forget the tv has water and water causes reflections and if you look at it you will look at yourself so he will evetually win the contest and fight water
My theory: He is addicted to watching tv and it feels like he cant stop, and he cant come out of his addiction, he feels stuck (kinda like the message of the song Me! Me! Me! ) edit: this explains the drowning ending, and about the mirror: he likes watching tv until he starts seeing himself, (like in a mirror), he panicks because he doesnt wanna be reminded of the reality and his addiction
Getting addicted is like listening to this a few minutes ago and already wanting an extended version to listen for days.
It’s confirmed

i love this guy, honestly. all my darkest painful thoughts are reflected and accepted when i watch these videos.

Here's what the small text on the TV appears to say:
"My sincerest apologies, I hope this clears that up. For more, look inside the spring!
Remember to always hold your breath!"
Not too sure about the spring sentence, but that's my best guess right now.
could be nothing, and probably is, but the lyrics of "Spring Cleaning" sound a _little_ bit fitting

In agreement here
I actually think it says "look what I'm saying" instead of "look at the spring"

It’s symbolizing having addiction, wasting his time with screen time, and getting caught up in his emotions, specifically sadness, and realizing he made this so much into a habit that he can’t get out of it, and it’s become an addiction
I think what triggered him to bench tv is that he’s getting over being dumped
Ass theory
And how is it symbolizing when it literally shows him spending his time watching TV it can’t symbolize itself haha wtf
Zo LuZ yeah lol
the fact that you used a instead of an disproves this entire theory
oh my gosh! the water spilling out of the tv at the end... and the face screaming underwater! so well done!! everything you make is just such a treat... thank you for the wonderful content!
Foolish Mr. Stauber, that is a television, not a mirror.
Lol
Its a black mirror
Hmmm...I think the television is its own reflection-
(I think I'm wrong)
Perhaps the TV is a _“reflection”_ on the main character’s life??
Or maybe oldschool tv screens are just shiny

Heck yea
are there good ones out there except that one with the two times song ?
Don’t forget about tik tok
@@Naru1243 There is this new one called "close up meme" and also "baby hotline meme"
Alright, I'm wearing floaties next time I watch TV
I love the animation, it's so much smoother, especially the ending with the water flowing out of the tv and the drowning man!! good job Jack!! Also, the song is lovely!!
Yes, he's improved to this godly amount of animation

Theory: His TV was an aquarium this whole time. He stared at it so hard that it broke and there was so much water that everyone died. The end
He tried to clean it's screen by using a microscope but then it backfired and he got backfired.
And died
With fish
And chips
But not fish and chips
Just fish

I think the theory behind this is the song is straight up facts. A tv is small yet has so much control over our lives, and when we don’t control our own lives it feels like we are drowning.

Ok I saw a theory that this is the past version of Opals dad, at first I thought it was insane, but hearing the mirror bit and seeing his face being shoved in the water, seemingly not by him (possibly the mother), made me think it could be a possibility
0:36 that was such a cool effect holy jesus
yeah but It's so scary! Well, it surprised me...!
Conspiracy theory:
Jack can see his reflection in his TV
I think we have a winner here.
this is the best theory so far ngl
Ohhh that's what it meant
Let's be honest, this is meant to be extended. The tv with eyes? That's definitely the new micropop EP cover. And around 0:26, you can hear a cut, suggesting there was more song to hear at that part.
exactly, the same happened with "there's something happening"
I'm waiting for the extended version. Its gonna be hella good
I really hope that's the case because I NEED this to be extendedddd
I hope he does new normal too
@@adamramirez3866 i doubt new normal will be extended to be honest, it's pretty long for a micropop, and it has a satisfying ending
Theory:
This is about Mirror Man right after everyone turns him down.
Real
My theory on this is that the guy kept seeing everyone else around him finding love and being happy, hence the kissing couple on the tv. Though when he looked in the mirror he felt small and empty. This kept consuming him at deeper and deeper levels and he couldn't take it anymore. I think he was drowning in his sorrow. Which is what I think the fish and end scene stand for.
Actually it could be that he sees himself in the TV
And the kissing couple is him with a girl
Nicholle Miller I think it’s just what he sees on the TV.
The TV has a major influence on him, and like how people are affected, their attitude, and their aptitude, he too is being changed and it majorly affects himself and the people around him
me:oh that was cool, but something is missing
guy: *drowns*
me: ah there it is

@@machinegirI my problem with memes is that the most of it is the same thing with other characters, when I see some original meme I really enjoy it
Theory: this is Claire’s grandpa in his youth, the line “ your vision isn’t on the wall”
Represents the grandpa being blind, and the guy gasping for air at the end is the grandpa breathing because in his song he is gasping for air
The last thing that drowned man saw was made by Jack Stauber
😂
Damn, we got a lot of English teachers in the comments section.

My take on the lyrics:
Mirror Mirror on the wall,
What's it like to be so small?
Your vision is invisible.
Mirror Mirror on the wall
What's it like to see us all?
Taking up a 3D plane
But dont take up anything.
You seem to show us what we dont know! (Did I say dont I said you show us what we know)
Mirror Mirror on the wall,
What's it like to be so small?
You're noone and you want more.
(Ding ding ding ding..)

"Everyone's a voyeur as they're watching me watch them watch me right now"
they got a staring contest goin on
And dont forget the tv has water and water causes reflections and if you look at it you will look at yourself so he will evetually win the contest and fight water
The similarities between this vid and Opal are really cool
Jack need to extend this master piece
My theory: He is addicted to watching tv and it feels like he cant stop, and he cant come out of his addiction, he feels stuck (kinda like the message of the song Me! Me! Me! ) edit: this explains the drowning ending, and about the mirror: he likes watching tv until he starts seeing himself, (like in a mirror), he panicks because he doesnt wanna be reminded of the reality and his addiction
