The moth trapping a spider symbolism is absolutely GENIUS
And I love how you made Val have a cozy color palette as a way to deceive people, god I absolutely adore color symbolisms
Right and thank you it's funny how hes a moth demon but not based around any specific one I mean yeah he could just be a moth by default but where's the symbolism and color theory like moths are known for tricking predators with there patterns and colors
@@LovesArt23 of course! And ohhh I am an absolute SUCKER for color theory as well; I think it definitely would’ve been more interesting if Val was based on a specific type of moth (as well as Vaggie)

Another thing that makes the moth symbolism work is that some moths exist only to mate/pass on their genes! Examples like the Luna moth feature no actual mouth or digestive system, the entire adult stage of their life is copulation and then starving to death. So it makes sense that a moth-themed demon would be obsessed with sex and mates!
@@humantoon some moths use patterns and colors to blend in, or as mimicry. Basically, their patterns kinda deceive predators into thinking they're not actually their prey but something dangerous to the predator., from what i remember.
I swear the more you redesign these characters the more I realize just how badly we missed out on what could’ve been.
Yeah sorry but hey at least I seem to be helping a few designers think about there character designing more but yeah it sucks viv is unwilling to change much or try different colors XD

I feel the same, and most of the re-designs that viv came up were disappointing to me (Expact for Charlie's re-design, hers is fine.) I wish viv could put alot more offert on the re-designs instead of giving them a little different look and mostly re-coloring them. I'm sorry if this is rude, but it's just my opinion on the re-designs.

I think that Valentino's "symbol" should be a upside down heart like you said, also if the upside down heart is stylesized in a certain way (something like the way Angel's heart in the chest is) it can look like moth wings!
One thing I’ve noticed is the fanart has different proportions and lighting for Valentino. Like the colors look genuinely gorgeous and his upper body is like, bustier? Well he’s bigger which makes him more intimidating. Not to mention the killer artstyle.
yeah the fans really keep everything going its always funny when someone sees fanart and gos WOW but then sees the show and gets so confused XD

Nothing is more of a missed opportunity than a moth character that can't be recognized as a moth at all. Love that the cape and the added antenna give Valentino an immediate moth look 🫶.
for real nearly every character looks nothing like what they are ppl still get shocked when I say veggies a moth and angel dust is a jumping spider like insect designs aren't hard

I like hazbin but there's so many characters with either a pinkish red hue to their outfits with the whole love entertainment stuff but the autumn colours kinda work for val he looks like more of a person u don't wanna mess with like in angel's case with valentino
Yeah hazbin hotel has a bit of a same color problem which makes every character blend in with the others and takes away there individuality youd think with the idea of ever sinner living in hell I'd be more mixed like zootopia but nah everyone looks like they shop at party city on valentine's day
The main cast in red, the designers and certain fans try to justify by “these are their uniforms”
but if your recurring antagonists also wear the exact same shade of red, especially in Valentino’s case, it kinda defeats the purpose of having a uniform at the hotel to stand out.
It’s like, (just saying as a example)
It’s like asking the salespersons at Tiffany’s to wear Tiffany blue formalwear for branding purposes, but everyone else around you, even your competitor, is ALSO wearing Tiffany blue outfit.
If Vivziepop stepped out of her comfort zone, she could do more with her designs instead of recycling the same colors, characteristics, and outfits. Her characters look the "same" because she puts the same stuff on different characters, making her designs dull and overlapping.

Agred also in my opinion the only fresh design I've seen is the angels design sense heaven had various folks with bright colors, I know all were grey, white, yellow and some blue and black. But seeing Adam's and lute's design was refreshing for a bit, to me it was. I just hope in the future episodes and seasons Vivzie adds a new design like she could hire LovesArt and other folks who redisigned the characters very well. Give some spotlight to fresh ideas.

Tons of research and basic understanding of character design XD and cause I'm having fun too
I think Viv’s imagined hell is one of the thing that kind of bites at the design because there’s SO much red. Sure we have other colors like the carnival in Helluva boss and Ozzie’s neon colors. But a majority of the designs and setting have so much red that it’s becomes a bit dull. I think if they had originally incorporated different colors for different sins, they’d have more to work with. You’d still have purples and reds for lust and wrath but you could also incorporate greens, blues, yellows. There’s so many different colors and shades and each sin could relate to different shapes and designs, from jagged edges of raging characters to smooth designs of sloth or gluttony. There’s so much to work with but all we see is almost sickening amounts of red.
He looks like a boss! 😍🔥 I actually do kinda like Valentino's design, but I really love your redesign! That moth theme is fantastic!

I love the colors you picked for Val and his facial hair is really great! Yeah, I’ve also noticed that fanon expectations are what really drives Hazbin Hotel at this point until it’s out which, along with Helluva Boss’s writing, makes me worried for the show.
Yeah they've indulged the fans so much there spoiled now and have the highest set of rose tented glasses that I think will fall once the show drops and we actually see what these characters are actually like or they'll get burnt out from all the red either way

Red coats are nice when done right, but seeing as the whole show is literally over a red background, it gets boring when all of them are pretty much the same. Plus Val's coat was pretty meh from the start, kinda like how a child would sketch their first ever fur coat.

I love your approach and overall research out into each design! I feel like a lot of people overlook how important research can be to make characters look like what theyre meant to be
yeah ive notice over the years no one really looking into the stuff they think about which causes a lot of problems later on even when I was in school my teachers never gave much interest in researching only speed
@@LovesArt23 oh my god SAME!! the teachers who focused on speed first and foremost were such a pain bc i found it unintentionally pushed an idea all these things were intuitive and therefore research wasn't important but long term youll be left with designs that are very not indicative of the character x.x
You know? Each time I'm more impressed of, not only how thoroughly you research fashion history, and how passionate you're about it, but you incorporate the era into the design PERFECTLY, that design SCREAMS 70's, and you made it look GOOD. I love your art.

Vivzie's designs for villains look like she's trying to saturate the sexyman catalogue.
Oh my god- I don't know how you keep surprising me! I absolutely adore this design too! I especially love that little peekaboo chest with chest hair, for me, that really completes the vibe. I also love the little messages from Angel Dust and Vox. Can't wait for your next video to come out! And don't worry dear, sometimes we all need a break! So don't feel bad about needing some time off.
Honestly, the fact that Viv limited her colour palette by so much, really limits her storytelling abilities by colours, because of how everyone of her main lineup is primarily red.
Your redesign really sheds light on the missed opportunities in terms of colour. Ironically your redesign is a lot easier on the eyes in a way I cannot describe. (maybe it’s because it’s a comfy orange and not eye-bleeding red)
Also your concept of having him look comfortable at first sight but actually be a lot worse than he lets on is such a perfect idea for an antagonistic character.
Freaking love this design!! I’m always disappointed at the fact that the fanart for this show looks way better than the actual designs, and i agree that there are little changes to the redesigns despite there being room for improvement

If I'm allowed to be honest, Val's original design and redesign by vivziepop were threatening to me. It wasn't just the height though (despite that being a significant factor), it was the bulk. His hood made him look MASSIVE and physically dominating! He looks like he could do some damage if he wanted to!
the fan theory i'd seen floating around is that Val got on the losing side of a fight and his fancy antenna was forfeit
matches with the personality we hope he might have, this show really needs a not silly antagonist
and there is a picture of him in the past with two intact antennas so we know it wasn't always like that

oh wow! the warm color scheme really works on him! i totally understand why the 3 V’s have been taking you a while to redesign. i’ve been doing my own redesigns and i’ve barely even finished ONE of them😭. patience has payed off though, because Val is GORGEOUS💗

@@LovesArt23 yeah i feel like the 3 V’s are super different and probably have some passive aggression towards each other. Val being warm and fuzzy, Vox being cool, sharp, and neon, and Velvet being…something would be such a cool dynamic.

This definitely looks more intriguing than the cannon design. I like that he looks like an alien moth from the 70s and that he has a warm color palette. Moths are one of my favorite insects and I’m glad you really showed that in this design. Can’t wait to see the other Vs!

I LOVE the color scheme you chose, most characers only have that neon red/pink and it started hurting my eyes, seeing those calm orange/brown-ish colors was refreshing and did gave me a sense of comfort, wich adds to the character that would pretty much use that to lure others into his grasp with his warm appearence and charisma
I honestly wished Viv would explore more colors instead of sticking to the Dark & neon scheme every time
Oh I love this! Viv’s character designs are way too similar for my taste it just feels like none of them stand out much from one another in terms of personality and power, but your designs always ooze that! I love the warm colors idea and the zebraprint, great job! Can’t wait for the next one!

First off, thanks so much for using more earthy type colors for this man while still keeping his fancy flair he goes for. Your design is way better, in my opinion and also this man looks way more intimidating to me than what Vivziepop made him look like. The only thing I really found most intimidating Vivziepop's Valentino is maybe his sharp teeth and of course the hungry smile behind it. With your Val I feel like if I saw him coming down the street I'd hightail it out of there before he spots me. Wonderful work as usual and Welcome back! i just realized something: valentino supposedly died in the 1970s, but angel died in the 1940s. angel has been in hell a good 20-30 years LONGER than valentino... how did angel get put under valentino's thumb in the first place? imo it should be the other way around; angel's technically older than valentino (depending on how old val was when he died of course) by a decent bit. if anything val should at least respect angel more since angel's been in hell and has SURVIVED hell longer than him.
and angel was in the mafia when he was alive. tf did val do, he's just a pimp. angel should be more of a threat to val

Seriously the more you make these redesign videos the more obvious is how Hazbin Hotel (and Helluva Boss) rely mostly on red and pink colours instead of experimenting. There's only so much you can do with only one colour and it's shades.

i REALLY hope that the way vivzie portrays valentino is him bein genuinely bad and horrible and not goofy, like yeah he can have a few goofy moments but don't make that his entire character like she did with. . several other characters like alastor, the snake guy who's name i forgot, so on so forth,,

i really love your designs, i discovered your channel a few days ago and i’m watching all your HB and HH redesigns, and i love them, i understand what you and basically everyone are trying to say, and yes it’s true.
even tho i’m a big fan of her designs, the fact that she always puts the same details and characteristics and a limited color palette is a shame, because just by seeing her old designs we can all see how much potential she has, but she always makes male villains more like goofy tumblr sexymen instead of making actual good villains, but i do like the top hats.
If you don't mind the old movie reference I feel like Val is suppose to kind of have the personality of Darla Dimple from Cats don't dance. mostly a nice guy until he's not plus just saying the song "big and loud" kind of fits him (also as always love the art defiantly an improvement than what we got from Viv nothing against her art though)

I love the use of the warm color pallet to make him feel safe. The softness of the fur and his fluff help with that too. You see soft fluffy stuff and just want to snuggle it.

Thank you so much for making his antennae fluffy 😭 It's accurate to sexual dymorphism in moths (males have big poofy antennae while females have slimmer, often wire-y/less fluffy antennae), and that makes my llittle moth lover heart happy ❤

I have binge watched your Hazbin/Helluva re-designs and I like them A LOT, way more than the canon looks tbh. I’m trying to get my brain to see your designs in my head while reading fan fics and writing my own. I especially like Alastor’s cuz he’s my fav plus your design blends well with how I picture my Hazbin OC, which is Alastor’s younger twin sister, looking.

It's interesting re watching w the knowledge now that Vals "coat" is actually his wings
Viv doesn't seem to do much research on the influences that characters indicate. But at least it's as surface as anything else regardless of where it's coming from.
This Val looks much better. He actually looks attractive, which would help sell everything he's trying to offer and trap people with, especially given that he's very interested in his own sexuality too according to the show. I had no idea he died in the 70's. There is NO indicator of it.
And yes, he absolutely looks like that party city pimp costume, so much so that I'd almost think that's what Viv used as part of the design. Which might go with his "fakeness" in what he's like. Like he's so pathetic and narcissistic that he doesn't know that he's a parody of his own job.
I love his new coat. My main problem with the first design is the floof of the red coat is so poofy nothing his small head looks like a raisin.

I whatched all of your redesign videos about Helluva Boss and hazbin hotel before the actual shows and i couldn't stop thinking about a version with your designs, your abilities are really inspiring

9:25 I just kind of assumed that maybe he got in a fight or an accident and it got ripped of or something, but 1. There’s nothing to really back that up, and 2. Idk how antennas work and maybe it would have grown back or something if that were the case. (Idk bug stuff) Anyways, even though I hate Val, I like this redesign of him. Watching your redesign videos are actually really interesting for me because sometimes I don’t notice mistakes until they’re pointed out, and your tips honestly help me out at times. I doubt I’ll even make a show or even animations at all (cause I’m just that lazy) but I still love watching these. Also I know this was a month ago, but I just wanted to say this.
Every single one of vivs hazbin designs have the same issue of "they don't look like what they're said to look like" to me. Most of the animal characters don't resemble the animal they're supposed to be and all of the time period based outfits look nothing like the time period they're supposedly supposed to look like
This might be coincidence but Valentino's canon look has a resemblance to the caterpillars' design from Viv's cancelled project Allison. You said you couldn't find earlier concept art for Valentino but take a look at that. It's possible some of the Allison designs were reused and redrawn for Hazbin. BTW, Viv used to have a cat named Valentino.

Out of all the designs of the cast, this is by far one of my favs, I always liked the 70's fashion more due to it's portions in outfits more exaggerated like the collars and color matching. For me, this design of val is 👍

I fully agree that Valentino looks amazing in fan art, and I feel like this is because people really lean more into the harsh angles of his character (and funnily enough most people switch his red coat into a more purple-reddish tone), and tend to exaggerate certain things about the design (definitely the fluff) which I like a lot more!
I recall that Vals character was inspired by a "pimp named silkback" from the boondocks and this design looks very similar to his pimp suit and I love it

In retrospective: Valentino looks like more Hispanic royalty (Yes its exist yet) + 70s style, I saw that normal take the reference more the Royal Family costume style than the pimp costume...

Honestly I like this design more but like as more abstract stuff like his antenna being smaller and his teeth being red are lore. Cause in some photos and posters we see both of his antenna are the same hinting that someone harmed him to the point of them looking like that. As for his teeth in posters and episode 4 we see a live potion being advertised by him which is red, the same color of Val's teeth salliva, and smoke and we can also see the love potion in question used as a roofie as angel almost gets drugged by shark demons in the same episode. So likely his saliva is used as a love potion roofie along with his cigarettes being used to manipulate and control people as some moths release pheromones similar to Val. If his saliva is red it explains why his teeth are colored thar way probably stains his teeth alsoo explains why he licked Charlie in episode 4 (super creepy) which makkes sense cause she's the princesses of hell getting a soul contract with her would put him on top.
Also in the same episode he uses his jacket as wings as it's revealed they were transformed into a jacket probably to hide them so this new design could probably do the same it could be a selkie situation where he can take his jacket off but if he can't get to it he can't fly, also could possibly by bleaching his teeth or putting a cap on them in this version so nobody knows about his ability to manipulate people
Now THIS looks like a guy that I’d actually be tricked into working for
