I’ve stayed in Arcs 1950 a couple of times and this is a lovely video to explain the place. Really does it justice. There are some great little restaurants all around that main area where the boulangerie is. Not super cheap but given where you are then they are a bit of a bargain. That said, the supermarket (which used to be a Spar) is pretty big and has some great stuff so eating in is so easy. Anyway, really enjoyed that video.
Thanks Ian- we really enjoyed our time at Arc 1950 and have some lovely memories as a family there. Although it was a purpose built resort, it has done it really well. It was very well thought out and consequently makes a stay there very easy. We love to self cater in resort, as we enjoy cooking together as a family over eating out all the time. Thanks for the comment. 👍
Another great video, Les Arcs 1950 has changed a lot since I was last there in the 90s time to go back there again this time with the camper van. Richard impressed with your table top dancing a hidden talent …….worth enquiring if the bar will give you a job !!!!!
I’m not sure La Folie Douce could cope with all his moves on a daily basis - he might show up all those trained dancers 🕺🏿 we have really enjoyed skiing out of Les Arcs ⛷️
Thank you so much for the fantastic review of Les Arcs ski area - you guys are so thorough and covered so much and very informative from lift pass areas, how to get around and even how you can buy your liftpasses in person around the corner! lol Ive never thought of skiing there before but it does look fantastic and would be open to this- loving these in depth ski vidoes and looks like you all had the best time! :) Great video, really enjoyed it , especially all the gorgeous views of the actual skiing, makes me want to get back on the slopes now! :)
Thank you ☺️ we have loved our few weeks in Les arcs - we just love being in the mountains summer or winter 🏔️ it is a great resort and we still keep finding new runs ⛷️
I love to ski in Les Arc, ski in/ ski out resorts are the best, fabulous summary. ❤ Thanks for sharing. What a treat to have an open fire.🔥 I’m with you on the Irish bar point, the laws of the universe state there must be an Irish bar in every great location. Never fail to have a good time in one. 😂 Great video, thanks both. 😊
We are really enjoying Les arcs and a bonus getting over to la plagne a couple of times too ⛷️ not quite ski in ski out now we are staying on a campsite in bourg in the van 🚐 🤣
Yes it did seem a theme in their colour scheme as we sneaked a peak in a few while they were cleaning 🤣 we did love it as a real treat from staying in the van 🚐 I agree the parking is expensive and they have you over a barrel as there is no where else to park 🤣 but at least we didn’t need to dig our selves out as we have had to a few times in Val d isere!
@@earlyretirementwanderlust There used to be a big free carpark where the Pre Saint Esprit lift is but that went. Anyway, we’re forgoing 1950 this year and staying in our CamperVan at Huttopia based on your review. 😀😂👍
I'm still not convinced about skiing, but the location, the accommodation and the mountains looked fantastic. Looking forward to seeing where you explore next in Nelson.
You need to visit all the mountains in the summer - the scenery is even more stunning and the hiking fantastic as you can get lifts to the higher elevations 🥾
@FrugalMrB I think you would probably like Chamonix - easy access, trains running up and down the valley for different hikes and some pretty villages. Our favourite hiking destination
Thank you Richard and Jackie for brilliant editing... enjoyed your special Family holiday clips Thank you for showing us Les Arcs 1950 resort etc... The last time I went to Les Arcs 2000 was sadly George Michaels death at that weekend Xmas! We were pretty drunk on Xmas Eve in the Ochaud Bar suffered with a massive hangover on Xmas Day I don't know if Fred Metral DJ still runs it as recently its been given some bad reports but when we we're in Ochaud Bar it was always brilliant and no rudeness with the staff I'm really envious because you are skiing for a month! Lucky devil's 😂 We had a ball in the resort/apartment with a fabulous Hotel opposite where we stayed in Les Arcs 2000 We used to enjoy having late afternoon drinks in the lounge with blazing fire Maybe you can pop in and have one drink by the roaring fire it's such a relaxing treat with a balcony view It would be great to see the streets shops and cafes in Bourg St Maurice town with the locals market scene etc as I didn't do that as we were short of time Looking forward to new adventures on the camp site... Cost of staying and facilities would be useful to see! Looking forward to more skiing adventures in the massive ski area Will you go to any other ski resorts for a day trip? Enjoy and take care until next video 📸 21/01/24
Thanks for watching and your lovely message 😊 we have had a couple of great ski trips in Arc 2000 when the kids were little. On New Year’s Eve there was the most fantastic atmosphere and fireworks. Will look out the hotel bar next week if we are up in 2000. The campsite has been fab so far - a little more cosy than the apartment 🤣🚐⛷️
Cracking video. We've been mulling over a self-drive to 1950 for a couple of years now, and you make it look very enticing. Love the apaertment. I bottled it for this year, so we're staying in a Peisy catered early March - maybe next year will be the one....
Thanks. We really loved 1950 and the apartment. It helps that Richard and our son Luke love cooking so it was almost like being in a catered chalet for us girls 🤣 have a great ski in March, we will be so may bump into you!!
@ratkinson-uk yes after french holidays and half term - trying to make the most of our season pass 🤣🚐 but preserving Schengen days in February so we can travel in the summer. A bit of a juggle!
Thanks - I don’t think there was anywhere in 1950 or 2000 that you could park larger vehicles. We did see vans parked in the bigger outdoor car parks in arc 1600 and 1800. The website might have more information. There is a bus service that joins all the villages
@Earlyretirementwanderlust even more of a surprise.. Arc 1950 isn't actually at 1950m! Arc 2000 was named as such because it sounded futuristic even though it is actually at 2100m. Which messed up the naming of Arc 1950 when they built it, as it actually sits at about 2000m (but the name had already been taken!!)
Hi. Looks like I need to add the resort to my list. Can you tell me which apartments you stayed in please and what the height restriction on the car park is. Our VW camper is 2.1m because we have roof bars. Thanks, Pete.
Hi, we were staying in the LES JARDINS DE LA CASCADE RESIDENCE. We didn’t book that block specifically, it was allocated on arrival. All we specified was to have a 3 bed apartment. A definite advantage that the kids now pay their own way!! The fire was a real bonus we weren’t expecting - not many have them. The carpark was fine with our van which is 2.10 with the solar panel. We were spoilt for choice with all that space - a sharp contrast to our skiing from the van for the last week 🚐⛷️
Hi we booked the apartment through crystal ski and sorted all the transport independently- this was only because crystals systems wouldn’t let us book 4 people on the package holiday and 2 driving and staying in the same accommodation 🤣 you can also book accommodation directly through Pierre vacance or booking.com. It was a little bit cheaper doing it ourselves but probably less hassle having a package where they sort out the transfers. ⛷️
Wow, you lucked out on the Apartment alright, it certainly had enough space for everyone. I’d imagine when adult children’s partners are along it was most convenient for all parties to have their own individual space too. The heated and modern boot room and spa facilities are definitely a bonus, discerning French skiers all but demand this level of comfort and service in the past few years. It’s hugely off putting to ski in wet cold gear, so I totally get the investment in their quality facilities as a way of ensuring repeat business. Your right about the season pass, if you’re there for more than 2-3 weeks it’s totally worth it. Thanks again for sharing, I look forward to enjoying your ski- campervan adventures!
It all looks amazing, so pleased you have had a fabulous family holiday. I would have loved the swimming pool. I'm not a skier, it's too late for me now, but I can appreciate the attraction. Apres ski 🎿 for me 🚐🍾 Hope you're still having fun in Nelson.xx
We had a great time with the family. It feels very quiet in our little van in the valley now! The swimming pool was heated but getting to the pool in -5 was freezing! 🥶
