    There’s always arguments between 3D and 2D animators, I say why not use both of them to your advantage? great job!

    • @RyoMassaki
      @RyoMassaki 2 года назад

      Because people are lazy and they don't want to master both, but only then can you use both techniques to their fullest potential.

    • @soundlymuffins7583

      @@RyoMassaki my guy you said people are lazy like it doesn't take years to just master 2d, the reason why people don't is because its literally so time consuming to just learn 1 imagine both. that's ignoring the fact that most people that do 2d love to draw and you don't do much of that in 3d

    • @RyoMassaki
      @RyoMassaki 2 года назад +1

      @@soundlymuffins7583 I speak from experience. I am a pretty good 3D artist (no animator though) and a lousy 2D artist.
      I stopped drawing in 2D because I wanted to learn most of what 3D has to offer and I became a 3D generalist. But If you stick to one discipline, its totally possible to be both an 2 and 3D artist. Animation at its core is the same no matter the medium. Look at the software Cascadeur for example - its fairly easy to pick up - a couple days/a week of learning the software and you could start animating.
      For somebody with experience in 2D animation it would be even less effort to get good results than it would be for me (because I lack knowledge of the fundamentals).
      At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you have to learn - you spent the time - you get results. It might take years - so what?
      If you're not doing it, then your desire to archive it is not strong enough.

      @@RyoMassaki yes Im also speaking from experience😂 I did 2d animation for 5 years then just transitioned into concept art and environment-painting. That’s why Im telling you that someone that loves the process of 2d animation often won’t enjoy the process of 3d animation only reason I know some people end up learning 3d is because its faster and more job options but at their core they will always love 2d way more. Just like I enjoy some 3d animated movies but still don’t think they look as good or have as much love put into them as 2d movies.

    • @RyoMassaki
      @RyoMassaki 2 года назад

      @@soundlymuffins7583 So what you are saying is that people should not learn and try to master 2 completely different but complimentary visual art forms because you know some people that didn't like it and they where only doing it for the money... ?

    I'm looking forward to the day Blender fixes the odd 3d feel when it tracesthe lines. We can be less dependant on hand drawing the inbetweens and fully use the automating trasing to do more animations.

  • @Vagolyk

    You feel cheap for using your own acted out motion data for reference? I thought this is the anime industry standard today.

  • @iwein
    @iwein 2 года назад +9

    Just finished working on a project using mocap for the first time! I did dive into making my own toonshader and we did use the 3d model for the final rendering, but it's very hard indeed to get a truly 'handdrawn' feel with this and I must say I'm not conviced by our end result. Especially a 3d face takes so much time to not make it look horrible! Even though we had a lineless style, the lighting is just so 'perfect' all the time and different to how I would draw light by hand. It easily ends up making the whole thing look 3d-ish.
    Personally I'm much more a fan of using 3d the way you've been growing into with this film; as a reference to greatly speed up the 2d work and maybe some stuff for far away. Your videos and workflow are always inspiring and motivating me to keep on finding that perfect sweet spot between 3d and 2d skills Olof!

    I personally love 2D animation and 3D animation equally. They can create amazing things separately and together. Both have their ups and downs.
    We will always have bad 2D and 3D stuff like Berserk 16/17 (3D), The Emoji Movie (3D), Norm of the North (3D), The Queen’s Corgi (3D), Big Mouth (2D), Brickleberry (2D) and Paradise P.D. (2D).
    However we will always have masterpieces from both like Spider-Verse (3D), Arcane (3D), How to Train Your Dragon (3D), The Incredibles (3D), The Lion King (2D), A Silent Voice (2D) and Spirited Away (2D).
    In the end, i will always love animation in general. No matter what kind of art style 😊👍

Since I like animating in 2D too, but I hate thinking about perspective XD. but in 3D that is already resolved and the drawing is solid too. thanks a lot!

    You have to animate by hand without tracing on 3d
