They believe all the lies that people with college degrees are entitled millionaires, but the GOP politicians and their Wealthy Donors are the hardworking Blue Collar people.

People who argue that we shouldn't forgive current college graduates student loan debt since it would be unfair for previous college graduates that have already paid off their student loan debt is like arguing that we shouldn't find a cure for diseases that people face today because people in the past already died from them. Also, how can a nation that spends close to a trillion dollars on it's military & defense budget every single year be against spending a fraction of that amount to forgive federal student loans just once?

I'm actually against it because bad consumer decisions should be borne by the consumer. Many of the people struggling to pay off their student loans should have taken a different route in life and gone to a tech school or some apprenticeship program. The big lie is telling everyone they should go to college. While the opportunity should be there, reality should also be a factor. We should invest in education earlier and spend a bit more time teaching fiscal responsibility throughout k-12. But that's my opinion. If you have a degree, and you're still working at Starbucks; it's your fault you can't pay off that loan.

    • @merriemelodiesfan7425

It's not the borrower's fault they're saddled with debt because of greedy loan sharks. Much like medical debt, student loan debt shouldn't exist. People didn't take these loans out because they were reckless, they took them out because they didn't have a choice. People don't have thousands of dollars out of pocket to pay for College right off the bat.

I graduated from college 5 years ago, but still owe tens of thousands in studen loan debt, I lost 2 jobs during the Covid19 pandemic (though I'm currently employed), & rent for most places where I live is almost what I pay in student loans a month so I can't afford to move out on my own. I would love to be a more active member of The U.S. economy if I could afford to do so without so much substantial student loan debt since I'm paying the minimum every month to prevent accumulating intrest. Even if I only had 10% of my student loans forgiven, that's still roughly $8,000 I don't have to worry about having to try to pay on time every month anymore. So, while Biden's SAVE student loan forgiveness plan won't effect me too much since the majorty of my loans were private loans, I still support the plan since it will still help millions of college graduates & The U.S. economy as a whole.

I paid for college by joining the military. I have no student loan debt. But I want America to be a better place and that means people shouldn't have to either choose to go without higher education due to cost or drown in debt. So this is easy. We should forgive all student loan debt, make public colleges tuition free going forward and we won't have to face the problem again. Just do it.

1 element to The U.S. student loan crisis almost no 1 talks about is college students that don't work while they attend college. When I was attending Texas Christian University, I worked at a bar in the kitchen every Friday, Saturday, most Sundays, & maybe 1 Thursday a month. I also didn't live on the campus, so I had to drive home everyday to change to go to work, & still have to find time to study, write research papers, & work on projects on weekends. However, I also once read a study when I was in college that stated roughly 34% of all full-time students either don't work at all or do unpaid internships during their 4 years in college. So, unless they come from an already wealthy family or have a well-paying job lined up after they graduate, most graduates have no money saved up to pay off their student loans once the 3-12 month grace period (depending on your state) ends. So, if The U.S. federal government forgave even just some of the loan debt college students acquire after they graduate, this would lift the burden off of them as well help them contribute more to The U.S. economy since once they find gainful employment they have 1 less debt to pay off every month.

The kind that provides good, stable jobs to educators, and not just overpaid administrators. We need the same system as Finland. It's an investment in a country's engineers, nurses, teachers, these are vocations we actually need. Tuition should be regulated. A system in which university charge dozens of thousands of dollars per year, university executives get insanely rich, then the federal government pays for it all - that's a 'nope' IMHO. Now with the new calculations my monthly payments are only $53 a month despite making more. Furthermore, I am a government employee that applied for PSLF and I am now at 118 of 120 qualifying payments for foregiveness. I'm $106 away from freedom. I'd be stupid not to pay it. My student loan balance has been sitting firmly at $34,000 for the last decade. A lot people that though their monthly payments were going to be big are finding out that under the new SAVE program their monthly payments are extrememly managable.

We don’t want to pay for education. I am sorry. People go into extreme debt only to get out and be UNDEREMPLOYED, because there aren’t jobs. I was a victim of the 2008 crash that happened the year I was graduating college. My job depended on the economy. No one even knew this kind of thing could happen.. well… I mean, if they did, no one told the vulnerable students that were wasting their time and money on a bad degree. Why, you may say.. well, because college is not about futures. It’s about making money. That’s why so many people are victims of things like trump university and other scam institutions. It’s why universities have degrees for things that are risky job markets and they don’t tell the students what the reality will be on the other side of that degree.

This situation is absolutely solvable. Take just one year’s increase in the Department of Defense budget (BTW is automatic without debate or even requested by the DOD) and the Federal government could fund public education from K-16, whether it’s a Vocational School, a Technical Degree, or Pre-Medical School. Boom, Done.
