  • Just a small update to the 1999 Sportster Chop Project my friend and I finished up a little over a year ago. In this video, we are fabricating and TIG welding a new sissybar, as well as adding a new set of handlebars for a little bit of a different look.

Back in 1982 I made a sissybar for an old Triumph chop out of some 1/2" bar..... me and a friend got at either end of it and walked briskly toward a metal post that held a road sign..... we went either side of it and the bar bent into a perfect arc and some extra pushing made the 'point'. We then wedged that point into a door frame/jam and put a little bend in the upright part.... result a perfect sissybar - just cut the legs to length and welded some tube on the bottom to take the bolts to the frame. A little peice of flat across the legs to mount to the fender and Hey Presto - one made to measure sissybar... Oh the good old days !

@@joalvarez6252 There was more to how we made it though.... sitting in a friends kitchen looking at the1/2 inch bar and wondering.... whilst smoking some fine cigarettes.... we just thought' oh what the hell'.... and did it, expecting to fail.... about four of five people having a laugh and trying things for the hell of it....
      I wish you luck !

Great job! I like the new handlebars much better. (Not that I'll be sittin' on her at any point)
I can really tell that you are not satisfied with anything less than perfection and it shows.
I'm hoping to do a chop on a 90's Sportster and the more I watch, the more confident I feel that I might be able to pull it off. Lol
    Thanks for sharing!

You can always cut and weld. We made a square-top sissy bar on my friends Shovelhead chop project. That whole build is documented on my channel. Search my channel and you will find the videos.
