AWD S-AWC roller and slip test note: That AWD system is called Super All-Wheel Control! The Outlander did way better than it's the previous generation! But, if you check carefully, you can't see those modes don't change much on a roller test. We tested all modes on all roller configurations but cut the one that showed little to no difference. Whatever mode you choose, the results will be the same except for MUD where you have more momentum. Fun fact, we got stuck in the 3-wheel slip test, but as you can see, leave it in normal with TCS ON and press and release the accelerator pedal multiple times, and it will get unstuck. This vehicle was equipped with winter tires. Turning off TCS will send the tires into smoke and won't get you anywhere. ** Wind noise warning
@@RichardJoashTan not at all, since on the diagonal test, you can see a roll back and also we cant really simulate 2 wheel slip front/rear or 3 wheel slip.

It looks front axle barely has a capability to escape with one wheel, because front axle could be driven by e-motor combined with engine, and the brake system has a lot capacity, on the other hand the rear axle has only e-motor and tiny brakes so it could't send enough power to the one wheel.
@@下田洋介-w4zThe traction control system cuts power and torque way too much that's why it struggled with the rear wheel slip test, I've noticed that behavior in almost all AWD Mitsubishi's, the front axle seems to have a better traction control, it cuts slightly then brakes the wheels then transferred the power and torque to the right wheels while the rear right is shaking but not enough torque is applied, a software update would fix it but overall still a very good system still one of the best in class also they need to fix the roll back.
Hi There. Can you test the traction control system on ice patches please? Because once I forgot to turn on AWD in the winter and my phev went on a fish tale slide as it would happen on a rear wheel Drive pick Up Truck.....very scary. Thanks
@@ejohnson3131yep, the Outlander's S-AWC System is AWD all the time, but it's actually rear wheel drive biased, 85KW of power in the front and 100KW of power in the rear, maybe that's the reason why it oversteered.
The RAV4 Prime gets better fuel economy in hybrid mode, so it’ll be better on a road trip, but most people get these vehicles to commute to work on pure EV mode and people have been reporting 50 miles of range. The AWD system is superior to the one in the Prime as well
@@CarQuestion you would think with Mitsubishi history within rally that the sawd would perform better, I wonder if the outlander can get over the air update?

Doesn't meet the "Super All-Wheel Control" marketing. If one wheel has plenty of traction but doesn't have enough torque to move a car, then it is a design fail.
This AWD system is for on-road not off-road, it's called super because of the Lancer Evolution, it's more of a like handling type AWD System, and for what it is, it's better than 90% of it's competitors like the RAV4 Prime.

Great demonstration of how this car sends power to the wheels. Love this stuff, and thanks so much for doing these tests.
Glad you like them! Cause it's hard to film and then put it all in one video :P
Far better than our old MY18 Outlander PHEV which really struggled with this test. Nice job Mitsubishi

I dont understand whats happening in the 2nd half of the video. Is it without engine vs with engine?
If you hear the humming sound then the engine is off, if you hear something whining it means the engine is on.
Dodge hornet failed same test recently
