I've never heard of this and it is so interesting and desirable. I noticed Nicola's palms were reddened from all that vigorous "walking of the dough", he really puts his heart and soul into it. I must try to make this!!! I hope that this culture of hardy work ethic, the keepers of taste, older traditions and beautiful non-pretentious people in any culture live for many more years, they are our last salvation to the good life. I find such solace watching these videos.
My family were all born in Bagheria, I was the first generation to be born here in Queens. I LOVE sfincione! I've been there many many times. It's been a long time and I miss it SO much!
I've never wanted to eat anything from Pasta Grannies more than this!!! We all should have an oven like that in our homes. Such an unusual recipe for a pizza dough. Thank you Vicky & team for another great episode. One can never have enough videos of pizza being made.
I love your show.. very specialized, very authentic, nothing in the show is unnecessary and every second is useful and entertaining. Most importantly, you are not acting like the star of the show which make us meet the good people cooking in a natural way. Thank you and best of luck
Nicola is a man after my own heart !!! This was such a wonderful video. It’s such an unique “pizza” recipe but seems to have all of the umami you could want or ask for. I truly enjoyed this video and will attempt to recreate this for my houseful minus the pizza oven though 😿. Fantastic video!!
He reminds me of my 7th grade science teacher, Mr. Lovan, who was proud of his Italian heritage, and used to share stories of his trips to Italy and his experiences with real Italian pizza pies...
I had this in Palermo and again in Baghiera and it was the tastiest thing I’ve ever had in my life! Like a religious ecstasy experience. So happy to see this video❤️
I am from this town and Bagheria's sfincione is something I really miss since I am living abroad. I prefer the classic one (without ricotta). Just tuma cheese, onions, anchovies and bread crumbs.
It has come that time of year when watching Pasta Grannies creates not only food longings, but, weather envy as well, for those of us in northern N. America. Sigh. That pizza looked so good, and, you face said it was divine! Have you had pizza from coal fired oven? I've not had better here. Would imagine the Italians make it even more amazing.
If your North America home is near Chicago there's 2 Coalfire pizzerias there We made a trip in to the Gran Avenue one after seeing it featured on Check Please Also an Italian Bakery and grocery down the street No sfincione though!
Hi, I live in Sicily, in a small town called Terrasini, near Palermo. We have everything here to live very good, like the best food, historycal city, best beaches an seas, and peoples who cared when someone come here to visit our city. This is a real poor recipe, but extremely tasty. I love my land, our typical dishes, and everyone think the same, are welcome here. Who aren't never come here : " come on, we are waiting you, what are you waiting for?" :) ❤️
My Zia Maria from Bagheria use to make this. It was such a treat when I’d visit her in NYC from Florida. She is from Bagheria originally. I’d love to be able to show her this. She’s watching from heaven. Her famous pizza! Thanks for sharing. This is lovely. I will try to make this too. Mille Gratzie!
Well thank you a while back I asked where were the pasta grandpa's now I have one answer and perfectly in time for the holiday. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! CHEERS.
I want to go to Sicily and follow around senior Sicilian cooks like a puppy. In fact, I want to go to every country where old folks cook outside in their villages - Japan, Greece, Spain, India.
I stumbled across this channel and I love these Granny Nannies! Please keep up the shows. I enjoy seeing real people, real food and honest to goodness love!
I was just pondering dinner when this popped up. WOW! I'm now having to stop myself buying a pizza oven in order to make one. That's my sort of pizza. Kind've knocks Scicilian pizza into a cocked hat.
Sitting here and salivating like…Anchovies on cheesy, oniony, herby pillow dough is the way to go. It’s filling, but I’ll risk it. Man, I wish I knew Italian (not just have it in my DNA) so I could directly communicate with this generation (which would be my grandparents’) because so much of that knowledge is lost even with the following couple. Phenomenal and fun idea and implementation, “Pasta Grannies” maker! Thanks for sharing!
Ms. Vicky, great recipe, i like sicilian pizza, especially anchovies, most folks who say they don't like anchovies have never really tried it on foods, they think it is fishy because they try a bite by itself. God bless all, & stay safe. btw, i like fresh sardines also.
Hi Steve, I think there's quite a difference in quality between brands; one needs to be prepared to pay for the lovely pink plump anchovies to appreciate them. I hope you're well. best wishes, Vicky
I can't find California style where I am in Washington State. I once got held up at gunpoint in Hollywood and had a $20 bill in my sock so I ate at Spago which is Wolfgang Puck's restaurant. I had sun-dried tomato and feta pizza.
There is California style pizza. Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, New York style. You can get all of those in Los Angeles. I feel this recipe featured here, is definitely a style of pizza and I like I said would eat one and then another before bedtime as a snack!
Every time I watch this channel, I tell myself we're going to pack up and move to Italy, and just spend the rest of our lives riding bicycle throughout the country, eating. Guess I need to win the lottery. And buy a boat to get to Nicola's house, of course.
I thought reviewing burritos was an ideal job
Befriending elderly Italian people and having them cook for you is a new level
Lol 😂😂😂😂
I just want to go to Louisiana and drive the backroads and find a gramma to cook something wonderful
This guy is not elderly!
Stick to burritos & watch who you call elderly!
Lovely comment. I felt the same way. There’s something awesome about having people pass on their traditions 🦄🌈✨

its uncommon to know about this type of bread even in italy, only sicialians!
My family were all born in Bagheria, I was the first generation to be born here in Queens. I LOVE sfincione! I've been there many many times. It's been a long time and I miss it SO much!
As we can see, Italian cuisine never ceases to surprise ! 👍😋
Wonderful treat to have this sweet man to cook this fantastic dish!
It is so beautiful how people across cultures are so passionate about food.
Amazing. I want to go to Sicily right now!! Vicky, you have the best job in the world making these wonderful films
hi Christopher, yes I do! And yes you should go to Sicily if you haven't already. 😊🌺 best wishes, Vicky
I've never wanted to eat anything from Pasta Grannies more than this!!! We all should have an oven like that in our homes. Such an unusual recipe for a pizza dough. Thank you Vicky & team for another great episode. One can never have enough videos of pizza being made.
Haha, that's because sfinciune is not pizza! My family makes it too, but ours is a bit different from this Bagheria style.
hi Greg, Nicola's oven has been in use since before WW2 - he told me American soldiers used to buy the family's bread 😀 best wishes, Vicky

Google pissaladiere, these toppings aren't uncommon at all.
Shelly how did it turn out?

Did this recipe yesterday, wow! everyone has got to try it, its wonderful!
What an unusual pizza starting with the flour and on from there. A really delightful group of people and beautiful geography. Thanks Vicky.
Bravissimo Nicola un arte nelle tue mani. Viva la Sicilia
Magnificent!!!! Absolutely magnificent! And the patience and attention to detail.... these Italians are something else!
I am from this town and Bagheria's sfincione is something I really miss since I am living abroad. I prefer the classic one (without ricotta). Just tuma cheese, onions, anchovies and bread crumbs.
A chi lo dici!
I am German and I miss Bagheria. 😉 Plus the food. 😊
Viva Santa fortunata!

Wonderful dish! And the little one smiling at the camera, so cute.
I love that Grannies include the Gran-pas, too.
We love italian cuisine so much... We love the way they cooked pizza.. So much love they put on pizza. Love it...
I've never been a fan of anchovies, but this is a whole new level of food, looks amazing
"Cheese and Anchovies in every mouth" is a sentiment I can wholly endorse!
I'm italian and it's "every moutfhul" not mouth actually
This Nicola's Sicilian Pizza called Sfincione di Bagheria recipe looks so delicious.
My family is from Palermo and we make Sfincione almost the same way but we add tomato sauce. I didn't know this version, I have to try it someday.
I love how you guys keep the traditions alive... keep doing this! great work
Omg Vicky, what a job! My mouth is literally salivating for this! Love how Nicola references his mother-in-law often!
hi Nosizwe, we take it in turns to be the taster which is never a hardship 😊 best wishes, Vicky
He has a wonderful spirit and it is infectious❤️
WOW‼️Nicola’s pizza looks soooo delicious😍 Thank You for sharing your masterpiece!!!🌹🇮🇹🌹 Grazie‼️
I'll try that topping on regular pizza. What a great teacher, and great job on a few well-lit shots of the crumb and texture of the final result.
Well thank you a while back I asked where were the pasta grandpa's now I have one answer and perfectly in time for the holiday. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! CHEERS.
Thank you for making these videos! Thanks to you I'm discovering more and more about my own culture 🤩
What an amazing concoction! Looks delicious! Lucky you for getting to sample this unusual pizza.
I want to go to Sicily and follow around senior Sicilian cooks like a puppy.
In fact, I want to go to every country where old folks cook outside in their villages - Japan, Greece, Spain, India.

I just made it, with other kinds of cheese since I didn't have these ones. Amazing recipe, thank you!
Love Nicola-- can we get more Pasta Grandpas?

Gotta love and appreciate the fact that you also bring men into this, more pls! ♥️✨
hi Rin, we like to feature men - it's a question of finding the senior ones who cook. 😊🌺 best wishes, Vicky
...i love sfincione! PS. mia suocera palermitana lo fa da 10!👍😋😋😋
Se è lo sfincione palermitano sarà di sicuro eccezionale!
My family from your hometown grandma made this for Christmas yum
I should come and work with you for this channel!!!! This recipe looks so yummmmyy 🤩🤩🤩👍I'll give it a try.
That looks wonderful to me. I remember Dad not liking the pizza they had in 1960 when they were there. He said all bread and barely any sauce. Lol
I've never seen this before. Fascinating! Would love to try.
Ms. Vicky, great recipe, i like sicilian pizza, especially anchovies, most folks who say they don't like anchovies have never really tried it on foods, they think it is fishy because they try a bite by itself. God bless all, & stay safe. btw, i like fresh sardines also.
Anyone I've ever seen personally try anchovies on pizza never liked it.
Hi Steve, I think there's quite a difference in quality between brands; one needs to be prepared to pay for the lovely pink plump anchovies to appreciate them. I hope you're well. best wishes, Vicky
OMG, they look amazingly delicious!👍👍👍
Looks wonderful!
I would wait in line for 5 hours to get this in America. I would eat a whole pizza and get another for a snack before bedtime.
Same !!
So would I .. you don't find this everywhere in Italy 😋
I can't find California style where I am in Washington State. I once got held up at gunpoint in Hollywood and had a $20 bill in my sock so I ate at Spago which is Wolfgang Puck's restaurant. I had sun-dried tomato and feta pizza.
@@1sunstyle but it's not the same... this is not a pizza. It's more like a bread type. There won't be a California style
There is California style pizza. Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, New York style. You can get all of those in Los Angeles.
I feel this recipe featured here, is definitely a style of pizza and I like I said would eat one and then another before bedtime as a snack!
