- Our signore, Rosetta, Rosa and Pina, share their friendship and incidentally a recipe for pasta con le sarde - though in this case the fish turned out to be anchovies because they were what was available in the fishmongers that morning. I wish you all the joy of 80-year friendships.
I feel we've reached maximum nonna energy with this video. The banter is hilarious.

Those are my roots. Cooking together, preparing the pasta with hands, fighting each other in dialect...I grow up with all those things. For 8 minutes I went back to my summers in Sicily when I was 12 years old and I was cooking with my grandma and my aunts. Those times will never come back, they all live in my memories. I must admit that I cried, a lot. Thank you for these videos, they warm my heart.

Wow, fish and fennel what is not to love, and the pasta grannies are great fun, they always make for a cheerful day.
That bickering reminds me of the time I got allowed into the kitchen in Italy as an 17 year old boy. I couldn’t speak any Italian and only understand a few words, but that wooden spoon hitting my head and hands sure made it clear how I was supposed to make the pasta. Learned a lot that day, it was great fun and just about the best pasta I ever tasted.
The wooden spoon is a very communicative tool indeed! Which part of Italy was that?
What would I give to have been hit by the wooden spoon 😂 Humankind at its finest! Wish you a long and happy life to enjoy these memories as long as possible

I love the way they each have "their" way. Now, decades after my elder Siciliano and Napolitano women chefs have passed on, I take turns doing our family dishes their different ways to give each of them the honor they deserve. Viva la nonna dappertutto!! 🇮🇹❤🇺🇸🙏🥰

Oh how I miss my late Italian elders..my mother-in-law, her sister Aunt Vivian, and her husband Uncle Pat (Pasquale Mario Vivilo) 🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣😍🥰😇 Getting them all together and especially to cook in the kitchen was a treat and a blessing I will never forget! Older Italians are the most special thing in the world!! I can't even imagine the cooking in heaven!!!

I'm pretty young, but I talked to my aunt on my dad's side and turns out I have very strong roots in Sicily and Italy. It fascinated me and I now love learning about traditions and recipes used where my family is from!

Ms. Vicky great recipe & fun plus funny to watch 3 friends arguing in a friendly way over the recipe differences & such dear souls, lol, in Appalachia we have somewhat of a similar recipe, we do eat sardines or anchovies mostly sardines, after heads/ guts removed they would be made in a pot with a cream base with mustard powder, s&p, potato/onion dices & served like a fish stew(sometimes white fish chunks are added). We waste nothing, we would use the heads/guts & fry them lightly in a pan of lard, then lightly simmer in a lid on pot of water for an hour & a half or so to extract flavor, then strain to get just the stock, taste stock, if to weak we boil longer without lid to reduce to our liking for other dishes, can be frozen for future use. Brilliant, a rollicking & rambunctious trio of Pasta Grannies. You must've had a hoot with them, & their personalities positively beam through the screen. Rosa who did the introductions puts me in mind of Nanny Ogg from Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. In fact I can see the three of them having a similar coven [& I mean that in the nicest way possible] .

For the first 17 years of my marriage we had an amazing* Italian woman with a Sicilian husband who lived 2 houses away from our home. She used to send down huge plates of pasta quite often. ( I repaid this with home made desserts and breads and other items.) She passed away a few years ago. I miss her so much.
