The really balanced review. I particularly liked your comment around the 'issues' that the EV 'committee' had voiced with regard to the 'Battery Charge Gate' - it's something that definitely should NOT sway people away from the car. We have just received our 38.3 kWh Ionic and absolutely it is a great car 'for us'. It ticks more boxes for us in terms of Use Cases. The tech that has been included in the car is very high - that was a pleasant surprise. There isn't much to dislike in this vehicle. Comfortable, safe and a great first EV. Thanks for the review!
Had my ioniq 2 months now and love it, going on a 300 mile trip next 2 weeks so will see how it will affect me time wise, every day use its perfect for me. Good review

I was i love with this car before. Now you made me love this car 1000 times more just by watching this video. I have two test drive next week and i can't wait for it. Thank you for you wonderful video.
I call it the iconic too lol Have my car 2 weeks now and totally head over heels in love. My first Ev and never driven automatic. It has been a dream to drive. I am definitely a more confident and calmer driver as a result. I get 30km per 10% charge which is my commute to work. Nearly get a full week of commuting if I don't do any other trips. Additionally it's the first time ever I was able to understand and figure out all the additional mod cons in a car. The infotainment is very intuitive. We are all used to touch screen anyway so it makes sense to have it. Sad they have discontinued the ioniq hatchback. Will be keeping this one for a long time. Huge prices on the new Evs and ioniq 5.
As I wait on the delivery of my 2020 Hyundai Ioniq, I watched your video and I have to say I agree with much of your opinion. This is a stellar choice, especially on the second-hand market as a first EV. It did indeed tick many boxes for me and my family. Sure, my wife and girls would have preferred a 2022 Kia Niro or Kona but we are coming out of a Gen2 Prius, and I kind of look at this as an Electric Hyundai-Prius. Everyone should take a good look at this option. Also, in the US we still don't have nearly as many affordable EV options as in Europe and Asia. The majority of options besides this and the Leaf are upwards of 40 thousand dollars. Thanks for the information and opinion. I just subscribed.
Excellent review very informative and more of a normal person review than the likes of What Car etc! Just a personal opinion! I currently have an Ioniq Hybrid which is due for renewal, your review has made me feel more at ease with changing up to a full electric car! Thank you :-)
Really enjoyed your review of this car. No electric car is perfect, not even a Tesla, but the Ionic does tick a lot of boxes. The weight is pretty low,which is down to the battery being a bit smaller than some but made up for by the overall efficiency of this car. Must have a test drive. 😉
I had the 40kwh leaf and now I drive the ioniq classic. The leaf was smaller inside than the Ioniq. Long Trips the ioniq is more comfortable and let’s not get into rapidgate… I didn’t buy the new ioniq because of the limited charging speed and cold gate issues but it’s still a good car for the money. I would of course recommend the classic if you can get one for cheap but both versions of this car beat the leaf by a long shot
I’m upgrading to the 38kwh in a few weeks from the 28kwh, looking forward to getting a slightly larger battery and gives me a little bit more piece of mind with range. Especially if I drive to Liverpool and back for work
EV Review Ireland I collected it Yesterday afternoon from Corkills Hyundai in Northwich (Cheshire). It’s a lovely car. Did you think it was a bit more responsive especially the ACC and Lane keep assist etc? Seems it to me compared to the gen 1

Does anyone know if the 2020 IONIQ, makes it easy to know what the ''state of health'' is of the main battery/motor? in other words how much permanant loss of range is occuring over time as batter degradation sets in, year after year ?
Hi, I have a question for you. I am currently driving a 2020 ford fiesta. My 85 yr old father has been driving an Ionic since 2017, he is on his second one. He has been constantly onto me since to invest in one and I think I am finally going to bow to pressure. Question is, would you recommend it to me? I do quite a bit of driving, especially around my local area with trips to limerick or cork, I am about an hours derive from cork, half hour from limerick. About once a month I drive to see family in carrick on shannon. I would really appreciate some outside advice.
Thanks for the question Margaret. What kind of range does he get between charge. If I remember correctly it's around 250km. If your daily commute is withing that you good for the regular stuff. For longer journeys, a bit of route planning is required.

Sounds like it could be for you. Best to see if you can get one from a dealer over a weekend and make the trip to Carrick without issue. Also, are you able to charge at home?

Thanks for the comment Andrew. I hope you haven't been affected by a fire. It's great to see Hyundai stepping up to such a huge challenge and not trying to deny or bury the issue. I'm told it was the version of batteries they used from a supplier.
I am looking at the used car market and pondering getting one of these. 180 miles on a full charge, even if there has been some degradation over time, makes this a good commuter car for me. I have a 120 mile round trip from the office to the new house BUT the office allows me to charge and I have installed a charger at the new house. I guess it all comes down to Tesla, will they cut their prices some more by the time I am ready to part with the money. Good video. Any new thoughts about it 2 years later?
« Bonjour » from France! I bought my Ioniq 38 3 years ago and after 75000kms the car is perfect, everything works well and the battery give me 350 kms range, no degradation noticeable... Ioniq 38 is a good, reliable and economic choice!
@@NevoEVReviewIrelandDon't think you have to worry much about degradation at all. These are probably one of the top performers in that regard. In my experience it's easy to get 200-220 miles in summer. I have to be on the motorway to get under 5.5 mi/kWh.
I've got one on trial at the minute. There's an awful glare/reflection from the dashboard on the windscreen, I've only driven it for one day but it seems like a serious issue. I own a 28kw ioniq and there is also a reflection issue with that but nothing like as bad as this one (2021 38kw) which has a white dashboard. Seems like a serious design flaw

Thank God you mentioned the slower charging and the fact that some people quite categorically find this car the worse they have ever driven. If you do your homework and provide a good balance then i think you’ll build up a good following thru kudos. I knew this car is crap compared to 28kwh. So I hoped you didn’t praise the hell out of it . That was a good tester. It’s not the best ev but it might suit people who don’t know cars and the rear torsion beam might not bother them. The suspension is known to be firm to for irish roads. The video and presentation is top notch. 40kwh by the way . Good insight into Hyundai battery tech. And good you mentioned the plastics .
Bit of a stretch saying its crap compared to the 28kwh. I drove the 28kwh for 2 years, and I have to say I was not outraged by the slower charge speeds.If you remove the faux outrage of charge gate, its more features and a bigger battery for not much more than I paid for the 28kwh. The trim is also better than the one I got, no electric seats etc. Many newer drivers (and EV drivers) are still suffering the hangover of the billions of euro spent by big auto to convince us all that a car that can drive 300km on a single charge is inadequate (Ironically they are now paying billions of euro to re-educate us...again). For the majority of road users, there might be 3/4 times a year when you are on a long spin, where the slower charging time might impact you. And in fairness if you are charging to 80% each time, the delay is minimal. If you are commuting all day/every day over hundreds of km, then charging speed is 100% a concern, but again this is just a tiny tiny fraction of road users.
I'm loving the comments and discussions in here. Noted on the road trips. I drove the e-208 to Mayo last weekend. Need to set up a few time lapsed videos for future runs. I appreciate your time and feedback

I drove 870 kms in one day in this car and had no issues with charging speed, what people don’t get is efficiency over charge rate.

How much kms does this car make on ECO+ mode? Did you try this out? Any other stats?
@@Owsryudie in ECO+ mode it did about 165 kms and that left me with 50% of battery with parts of the trip up hill.

Same colour inside and outside as mine. I also have sunroof. No problem with slower charging speed. I love it!

Maintenance costs are very low apart from every 4th service which involves coolant change at £400-500. I think the over services at £70

Does rather is it supported by openpilot? This is comma ai’s level 2 driver assist.

Still a great car, very aero and good range. I'm not sure Tesla can go much lower but it does have superior software and the supercharger network 🤷♂️

Anything charging at 40+kW is Rapid charging. Slow is 1.7-6.2kW and is considered “slow” . 7.2kW technically is “fast”.
