  • Gundogs are essential to shooting. This film shows Echo, a Chesapeake Bay retriever and his owner, BASC wildfowling officer Mark Greenhough, making a difficult retrieve across a flooded channel of the River Dee.

The close-up of the Chessie's face in the blind just brought back some sweet memories. My boy passed in 2012 but I could smell his wet fur for a second while watching this. A bond with a CBR is magical. It's like a friendship where you can finish each other's sentences.

One of the best of the Loyal and hardworking Chessie videos that I have seen, I remember seeing this about 6 years ago and thought it was taken off. I had one of my Chessie's do a similar retrieve about 25 years ago and it brought back so many memories of the 4 that I have had over the years.

I can't watch this without a tear in my eye. I had to put my guy down suddenly after he became somewhat listless and wouldn't eat any more.Stomach cancer got him at age 12. One of the saddest days of my life. That was in 2012 and I haven't the courage to get another CBR because I just can't say goodbye again. A dog like no other. If you own one you know what I mean. A great video that brings back lots of good memories.

Yours is an older post but I wanted to reply.. I know what you mean about having that magic dog I've been lucky enough to have a few in my life. Yeah seeing them go so soon is so very hard but when that new puppy looks up at you , makes it's first Point or fetches that stick ! You'll find you still have room in your heart for one more and you'll also find that it doesn't have to be as good it is enough that it is a hunting dog.. I read this a long time ago and sure it gets harder to say goodbye to them but--- It is the Price we Pay for a Priceless experience ! A price very much worth paying.... There's a 10 week old Swamp Collie laying at my feet as I write this .....

Walking with the stream very important to reduce the effort and stress on the dog trying to straight line on the return.
