‘Let’s make 2022 the year of 360 degree wins…’ Solid advice, Stonnie! Let’s get out there and make it happen. My pup is happiest when we’re out exploring and he’s off leash living his best life. Therapeutic for the dog and owner alike! Great video, great message.
Uncle stonnie you my friend in my opinion are the true dog whisperer😎 and the way you explain the dogs behaviours are the best and simplest I’ve ever heard in my life and it makes a load of sense!🤷♂️ keep up the awesome things you do buddy I could watch you all day long!👍
Oh for folks that do have to walk their dog on a leash, if you get a 15 foot lead, and just go on decompression/sniff/freedom walks(walks where a dog gets to be a dog) it's the same idea. It's a time your dog gets decide the pace, they get to sniff things as much they want, and it seriously helps with your dog engaging with you. If you do them the right way. You're still there to make sure they're safe so they have to listen to collar/harness pressure, but they have freedom which is important.
Just visited yesterday at the kennel to see my two Aussies and their progress. I am so very blessed to have come across Stonnie and his in kennel training program! My boys are well on their way to becoming the dogs/companions I want to be by my side during retirement. Stonnie does what he says in training by allowing the dogs to be dogs during adventure time and also importantly making sure each dog receives the foundational training necessary to be calm, polite, well behaved and socialized. Thank you Stonnie!!!
One of the greatest joys in my life with my dog are our leash free walks - for some reason he is very obedient on them, more so than in his yard at home where he has the nerve, sometimes, to disobey my "come"! It is fun to see them discovering and just running for sheer joy. Keeps us both healthy too.
Last night, I was talking to some neighbors who my dog, Kodiak (two year old Australian Cattle Dog), had never met before. He was, of course, excited to meet new people, but as soon as he politely said hello, he came right back to my side and sat, then laid down until I was done talking to them. He did not complain, did not beg for attention, and waited patiently. He learned early on in his training that if I'm not paying attention to him, he needs to chill out. I owe all of my training success to Stonnie's YT channel, and his Personalized Online Coaching, which we enrolled in back in 2020 when Kodiak was a brand new to the world and our family. Two years later, I could not ask for a better four legged companion. If you're reading this comment and are on the fence at all about the cost of training, hop off the fence and bite the bullet. The amount of attention I got while I was new to the process was incredible. Stonnie and I talked through issues every day, and my journal is still open. If I write something in that journal two years later, Stonnie will look at it and respond. It's pretty incredible, and worth every single penny.
I have a 17 week old black lab identical to Finley and also sits on walks when he’s tired… you made him feel loved and happy along with the pack! Well done
This is the absolute best channel for dog training on the internet. I have been following these techniques for the year or so and my Chocolate Lab has become a perfect gentleman and my best friend. So many adventures! Thank you Stonnie!
You just said that you “tell us how to manage a dog.” But really… it’s not the dogs that you are managing. You are teaching the human common sense on how to own a dog. I’m very grateful that you have these videos. I post them on social media as often as I can.
Its just folk who feel threatened that come with comments about so called force free training. Glad Stonnie hits it head on and like he say's, the proof is in the pudding. Love it 😊
Yes you taught me that a tired dog is a good dog! We live on a small farm and before any training we play! One question have they ever knocked you down?! Great advice! My four litter mates are such good dogs!😊
Stonnie you have been my inspiration. I am 61 years old. I have lived in a Southern Az older retirement area now for 6 years. I moved here from the Dallas Texas area to take care of my father who has dementia. It has been quite a life adjustment. I have felt very isolated esp since Covid. I have had a black female english lab in the past. I decided to get an American Black Lab puppy per your suggestion. I thought getting a dog for my dad would help him plus I needed to get out more. OMG I knew from watching your channel but didn't know or realize how demanding and different the Black American Labs are from the English Labs. I bought a 8 week old female black lab. Her name is Brynlie Rose. She is now 10 months old and and has more energy than any other dog in the park. She is a crazy girl. She has generations of master hunters on both sides of her stock. We go to the dog park every morning or go on an adventure to the mountains where we hike and play in the mountain steams. The best thing that happened to me after getting my puppy is after making no friends for five years, I met a lady that is 10 years younger the first day we went to the dog park. She has two yellow labs one is a female two weeks older than Brynlie. They are best buds. We meet almost every day at the park. She is a big outdoorsy person big hiker. She encourages me to get out and go on adventures with her and the dogs. If I didn't get my puppy I would have never met this person who has become such an important part of my life. So everyone who reads this get out there and connect to people whether in a park or dog group or out on an adventure. You never know who you will meet.
Uncle Stonnie, I have followed you for years', I can't thank you enough for your no-nonsense approach and educational information. I can genuinely see, that for you, it is all about the dogs!
Thanks for simplifying Dog training. Much of the success or failure for us, is the environment and routine. Our 1 YO black lab has lots of energy, and off leash in the country, he goes from craziness to calm and well mannered just from the exercise. Thank you!!
Stonnie, love watching your videos... so refreshing to see someone that knows what they are doing...that knows dogs inside out...how can anyone comment anything negative...the proof is there in the very happy well balanced dogs after being in your care/guidance/positive attitude...
I wish you were closer to me! I could use your experienced dogs to help teach my rambunctious dog personal boundaries! :D Really enjoy listening to your videos. Love the mindset you discuss and the treatment of the dogs. If you happen to have any advice for Mountain Cur mixes, I'm all ears! Sooooo much energy.
Another great video! I'm lucky to live near a beach that allows dogs to go off leash. They have a ball chasing each other around, then come home and chill out.
Great video. Through your work I'm learning to treat each dog as an individual. Love how you see the dogs as individuals yet use generally the same training to teach them. You're aware of the individual dog's state of mind and capabilities. ❤️
Love your videos Stonnie! We’ve really adapted your philosophy with our 9 month old black lab or English Chub as you would say. We live in a city/suburb area where they require a lot of on leash even on hiking trails. But we found a great group of like minded dog people and we take her out to meet up in the mornings and evenings for off leash play. Her energy level and socialization with other dogs improved immensely. She used to be like Finley but can now keep up for much longer during her wrestling matches with her friends.
Love it , looks fantastic, but I’d say a very small percentage of us have beautiful property like yours to go on daily walks with. Given that, with my Lab pup, I’m in city, I don’t have access to that. So what do we do without acreage to walk like you’re doing? Thanks
I get creative with my ACD mix. We have plenty of parks in my area that we can ride to adventure. I just keep my girl on a leash and let her sniff and kind of guide the walk. As long as she doesn’t pull, we are both good. Sometimes we do what I call “urban adventuring”. We go find parking lots or dog friendly stores that we can go in and walk around. Even finding different neighborhoods to walk your dog will be great. I think Stonies whole point is to get your pup out and let them experience life.
Very inspirational! Especially the dog therapists say every dog needs tailored treatment ... Otherwise they'd be out of jobs. I like the mentor concept, maybe we should make some groups to connect with those.
Dogs always learn quicker from other dogs than any human, no matter how good a trainer he/she considers themselves to be. I think this has been known for thousands of years. Certainly well understood now. I got a Texas Heeler puppy almost a year ago that I never would have gotten if I hadn't had an adult dog to train her.
Really great point,an I agree part of it is most bigger dogs..are higher energy I'm pretty lucky I live in a smaller town in Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦..so I mostly walk my dog off leash, makes it a bit easier too train her..
Continue to watch your work from here on the other side of the planet on the island of Phuket, in SW Thailand. I would love to have “Sandy” my 15 month old female Golden Retriever “Beach Dog” come spend some time with you guys over there, but….. the 12 Time-Zones might be an issue. A few days ago while out on a short walk, both of us almost stepped on a 6’ long King Cobra….. and, it wasn’t the first time that it’s happened. Consequently I have to keep Sandy on a short leash and can’t let her run free through the brush/jungle. The other major issue living at only 8 degrees north of the equator…… are the afternoon temperatures. Heat Stroke in dogs can and does kill. Hence, walks are early morning and late afternoon…… or, on a very cloudy overcast day. Keep up the good work over there…..
Every place has it's unique challenges. From your encounters with wildlife you've probably figured out that your best walking time is also the time of day when predators are ending or starting their activities. Keep vigilant and stay safe!
A tired dog is a good dog truer words have never been spoken, I wish I knew how to put a picture on here so I could show you my yellow/ fox red lab and believe it or not I don’t think he wants to be black thanks again Stonnie
Hey Stonnie... Where did you get your bags? What is in them? Can we get a video on your tools/trick of trade? I'd love to do what you do but I'd love to know what you got with you when you do these kind of trips.
I love this and could not agree more. But, my dog is terrific with people. He is highly selective about other dogs and does not have good recall so it is unsafe to let him off leash at all. We play fetch in the mornings with him on a long agility leash which he loves and does not even seem to notice. While I am happy to take him on adventures, he has some fears and anxieties and sometimes will not get out of the car. So while I would LOVE to take him off-leash, that is just unsafe. I would welcome long leashed hikes (and we have great spots near where I live), sometimes it works and we have a terrific time and sometimes he will not even get out of the car. My last dog was the opposite - super easy, great on leashed and unleashed adventures, lovely with all other dogs and people. I love my current dog and want him to have the best life, be less "reactive", and lower his anxiety, but I honestly struggle with how to tire him out if he will not even take the first step either to great places we can walk to or out of the car in new places and where he is unreliable with other dogs to the point of danger for them (so I usually do not let him meet new dogs). Note: he does have some friends and we try leashed walks together which he seems to enjoy but it does not lessen his negative behavior with the dogs the he reacts to. I know he does not like being in a state of high arousal and he prefers being tired after a long outing but he will not always oblige. I would welcome advice.
I love what you do.I love letting my dogs off leash in the wild but we have a lot of rattle snakes. I know you do to as well as others. How do you deal with that?
A: The German Shepherd is totally getting into it, totally being part of the pack, totally lovin' on Uncle Stonnie! B: I don't trust ANYONE who doesn't LOVE dogs. Who could?
Hi Stonnie. I’m new to the channel and enjoy your content. Great support and info! I recently got a chocolate male lab, with all of the dogs you train, do you have them fixed? -thanks
Seeing what breeds that are out on your walkabout are half the fun of the videos. One that I haven’t seen but am interested in is the Irish Terrier any thoughts or insights on the breed?
Can't help myself, but I love seeing dogs in the nature, free running but with an unvisible connection with the owner. I know leach training is also important, but when I see dogs in an urban envirement, it makes me sad. But, that's life.
I’m nervous about introducing my rescue to other dogs. I’ve been told she’s dominant and I’m afraid they will get in a fight. Help! I want you to help me overcome this fear. Do I just let a strange dog come up to her?
How do you stop them running too far when off lead? Mine was ok but starting to go further so having to put the lead back on. Hes a choc lab just under 2 years old. Recall not bad till theres something more interesting out there. Ive tried food, toys, whistles etc. He gets bored with the same things
@@ayouniques1 no easy answers or we'd know by now. My last lab didnt wander off so far and to be honest i didnt do a right lot of training with her. My kids were young and she just had to slot in. Not saying i could let her off anywhere, i couldnt. But chose carefully. Dogs are all different. Im hoping age will help a lot and to a degree i think it is already. Im trying though with whistle training etc but you cant always be the most brilliant thing to your dog. My friends dogs come back to me more😆
This may sound obvious. From my experience, it just takes time and patience. Find a place where you’re comfortable giving the dog some freedom. Start by just letting them off lead for a little while, while correcting them when they get too far away. If you do this consistently, gradually giving them more freedom, they will learn.
@@mburke1211 thanks. Yes ive tried this also. He was good to start with (after spending 10 months on a lead apart from private places) but after about a month he was running off. So frustrating when you see all the little dogs following their owners. Im sure ill get there. Thanks again
@@liz-qu8nx Good luck to you. I do know that with younger males it is a little tougher to get them to stay close. But, over time with stern guidance, he will realize you are the pack leader or alpha, and then he will instinctively know it’s best for him to stay close to you. it’s such a rewarding thing when you get there with this type of training. It’s worth the time and effort. All the best!
They actually found that denying kids rough-and-tumble play creates ADHD like symptoms… So when we keep them in school all day, it creates ADHD especially because now they’re not even allowed to touch each other or do anything resembling rough and tumble play

he's got a sense of humor too he's the best!

Personally, I don’t.
How do you keep them so well behaved and off of one another? My pup is 16 months and full of energy. Your thought on neutering?
Seeing what breeds that are out on your walkabout are half the fun of the videos. One that I haven’t seen but am interested in is the Irish Terrier any thoughts or insights on the breed?
This is 100% awesome and so accurate!
Thank you!
I'm lucky enough to have a big enough piece of land for them to learn how to work off leash. The basis of all training IMO.
Thank you
All gun dogs want to be retrievers, all retrievers want to be chessies! #pitbullofthemarsh
Ha!
See is beautiful and crazy athletic!!!
Hey Stonnie, what do you classify as a mentor dog? Age, progress?
Love it……thanks!
Anyone know what breeder the Lab in the bottom left 0:24 - 0:35 comes from? Nice looking dog!
Daming dogs i love it stitch
Question: Can dog parks be the kinds of positive "natural," social adventure spaces described here, or are they mostly problematic?
Can't help myself, but I love seeing dogs in the nature, free running but with an unvisible connection with the owner. I know leach training is also important, but when I see dogs in an urban envirement, it makes me sad. But, that's life.
finally more videos yayay
Any hints on doing this if you live in the city ??
how do you first introduce 2 city dogs?
😊😊😊cool
How I train my 2 GSD and 1 black lab...
I miss Sugar. Was she returned to her parents?
I’m nervous about introducing my rescue to other dogs. I’ve been told she’s dominant and I’m afraid they will get in a fight. Help! I want you to help me overcome this fear. Do I just let a strange dog come up to her?
🇮🇪 there you for sharing, very good video
Thank you!
How do you stop them running too far when off lead? Mine was ok but starting to go further so having to put the lead back on. Hes a choc lab just under 2 years old. Recall not bad till theres something more interesting out there. Ive tried food, toys, whistles etc. He gets bored with the same things
I have the same question also. We have a black lab...still a puppy and I'm learning.
What kind of whistle is that?
